Lena Raine - Resurrections
Takumi Naramura & Houryu Samejima - Giant's Cry

List Soundtrack - List Hacks

Mega Man X3 OSTs
Takumi Naramura & Houryu Samejima - Giant's Cry

Lena Raine - Resurrections
Now that I've started working, I won't be able to be as active as before. This is really very sad and depressing for me.

WORK IN PROGRESS
▬ good old days 4 (10/? level(s) completed)
▬ dumb 2 - strange levels in my notepad (22/62 level(s) completed)
----------
By the way my Youtube channel
My picks are...
  • Bandai Sound Team - Super Saiyan God SS Evolved Vegeta
  • Lena Raine - Resurrections

And some commentary...
  • I Am a Lake of Burning Orchids - The Cold Neon is among the stranger entries I have heard, mostly because you expect something slow all the way through... and yet some other beat at a different tempo comes in.
  • The first slot was a three-way battle, and the second slot was a four-way battle, with one going into neither group (and, in this case, ended up defeated by both groups). For the second slot, I was debating between Matisyahu - One Day, Paul McCartney - Listen To What The Man Said, Alexander Brandon - All Hallows Sunset and Lena Raine - Resurrections. I went with the last one for the variety pack.
Matisyahu - One Day
Paul McCartney - Listen To What The Man Said
1. Lena Raine - Resurrections
2. Paul McCartney - Listen To What The Man Said

3. Matisyahu - One Day
4. Alexander Brandon - All Hallows Sunset
5. Takumi Naramura & Houryu Samejima - Giant's Cry
6. Lee Jackson - Goin Down the Fast Way
7. Bandai Sound Team - Super Saiyan God SS Evolved Vegeta
8. I Am a Lake of Burning Orchids - The Cold Neon

shoutouts to the cold neon for sounding like a glitchy ritual while a rave is playing in the distance (not that I'd go out of my way to listen to it, unfortunately).
Paul McCartney - Listen To What The Man Said
Lena Raine - Resurrections

Lena Raine - Resurrections (zero contest)
Lee Jackson - Goin Down the Fast Way (I guess, couldve been paul mccartney or giant's cry but this is what i feel like picking for now)

blecch
1. Paul McCartney - Listen To What The Man Said: This song sounds like the 70s. I love it. Good complimentary backing vocals and clean guitar with cymbal crashes that shimmer.

2. Lena Raine - Resurrections: This song is just... pretty. I don't know how else to describe it. It uses soft instruments in a reduced fashion, arranged in such a way that is just marvelous.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lee Jackson - Goin Down the Fast Way: words words and more words!

Alexander Brandon - All Hallows Sunset: This felt like it was going to peak the entire song and didn't quite get there. It's alright.

Takumi Naramura & Houryu Samejima - Giant's Cry : I'm sure the game this song came from is pretty good. I can imagine myself playing it when I listen to this.

Matisyahu - One Day: Not really my kind of music, but he has a good voice for what he's trying to do.

I Am a Lake of Burning Orchids - The Cold Neon: This song made me feel things. Dark things. Far too dark to record onto this message.

Bandai Sound Team - Super Saiyan God SS Evolved Vegeta: huh, you know the guitars in this actually kinda cool. I'm not gonna knock it.

I Am A Lake Of Burning Orchids - The Cold Neon
I'm very surprised to see Burning Orchids nominated here, but I'm not complaining. I've been very familiar with their Summer In My Veins album for quite a while now, and have been meaning to check more of their output for years but never got around to it. Coming from Summer In My Veins, I expected this to be a similar harsh-noise-wall-with-synth-chords-and-incomprehensible-emo-vocals affair; I certainly didn't expect something long-form, or drum machines for that matter, or for a relatively non-harsh opening. I vibed with this all the way; Burning Orchids really does something in harsh noise that I don't hear from anyone else, and I'm all here for it.

Alexander Brandon - All Hallows Sunset
Save for my 1st pick, this round didn't impress me much, so this is more of an instinctive pick. I could've also left out my second vote entirely, but I didn't feel like that #fim{TwT}

Similar to JupiHornet, excessive exposure to Celeste's soundtrack has worn me down quite a bit, which caused Resurrections to miss my vote. That, and this not being my favourite track on the sountrack — too long-winded without stimulating-enough progression to warrant it. At least I still love the drone that closes the track off to bits.

I found Giant's Cry to be very solid and enjoyable, yet somehow also wholly unremarkable. Huh.

Listen To What The Man Said sounds like a great piece of music from a name who I have quite some respect for, but it's not to my taste, alas.

One Day made me uncomfortable.
4. I Am a Lake of Burning Orchids - The Cold Neon: whoever posted this, youd like the artist Worlds End Girlfriend. They have a similar tone, but this track is that as a really boring Godspeed You! piece. i am a sucker for this shit though, even if its a bewildering 6/10. I have some albums to throw your way for sure, not in a condescending way even if my tone implies it lmao.
------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Listen To What The Man Said - The Walrus: huge beatles fan, but i gotta say, Harrisons solo stuff (and *some* yoko/john and wings) is the only good post-Beatles music. Paul really just wanted to write music for the sake of it it feels like, more power to him.

6. Goin' down the Fast way - Rise of the Triad: Doom is pretty good

7. One Day- Matisyahu: here for the style, good karaoke, but its weak reggae

8. La-Mulana Remake Soundtrack - Giant's Cry: Had to run back to the grocery store cause i got coconut water instead of kombucha. they moved where the kombucha was and by the time i found it i had grabbed the coconut water. i shouldnt second guess myself. missed half the track, not too sad about it.

11. Unreal Gold Soundtrack - All Hallows Sunset: im uploading a stock noise collection ripped from Unity next tourney.

--------------------------------------------------------
Mid-review jam:

Ginger Root - "Loretta": Jupi weeb phase

aesop rock - five fingers: best song (not) in the tourney. slow and low, do or die calm, suicide king in the tuck of the palm. listen to aesop rock.
VOTE #1: Paul McCartney - Listen To What The Man Said | Didn't this guy die back in like the 60s??? This song is really good too, and I'm not even a huge Beatles fan, I just don't know if this is like a memoir thing or if it was written before he passed away or smth.

VOTE #2: Lee Jackson - Goin Down the Fast Way | This song's pretty good but overrated within its OST, Suck this! does the exact same thing but way better and Havana Smooth is what I personally would have nominated.

-----

-Takumi Naramura & Houryu Samejima - Giant's Cry | I like this song but I think La Mulana has way way better personally lol

-Matisyahu - One Day | it's very watered down reggae

-I Am a Lake of Burning Orchids - The Cold Neon |
WEEEEOooooOEEEEEEEEEEoooooooOHHHH EEEOOooohhhEEEEE WEEEEEOOOOOH KKRRHSHKRHCRKA-ZAAARKCRKSKHKSH-- BMMMMMMWEEEEOOOOHHHEEEEEoooooEEEEEEEEkkKKHSH
SHSBRBRRMRMRBRBVVBVRRRBRBVMMMMVRVBRMMRMRMMRVRMMVRMMRRMMRVVNRMRMMRMRMRMRBBBBRRRBMMMMMNNNMMN

-Lena Raine - Resurrections | Celeste has so many good songs and all the ones I've seen nominated in this tournament are immensely underwhelming outside their original context. Honestly impressive!

-Bandai Sound Team - Super Saiyan God SS Evolved Vegeta | Bro the actual DBZ OST had so many great songs you could've nominated too, and you picked the mobile game OST?? In an alternate universe this song would've been Unmei no Hi and I would've voted for it.

-------

MID-REVIEW JAM: Ginger Roots - Loretta | This song is really funky and chill, gives a real nice upbeat vibe very similar to the Matt Damon choruses of older Gorillaz songs.

MID-REVIEW JAM #2: Aesop Rock - Five Fingers | The Joker distracted me!
NOM: Goin' down the Fast way - Rise of the Triad - good jam
------------------------------------------------------------
I Am a Lake of Burning Orchids - The Cold Neon - i wanted to like this but honestly its progression is pretty boring, I wish the auditory effects where it cuts out here n there at the end was implemented way earlier.

Listen To What The Man Said - Paul Mccartney - underwhelming

One Day - Matisyahu - reggae but they had to market it to the widest audience possible

La-Mulana Remake Soundtrack - Giant's Cry - meh

Celeste Original Soundtrack - 03 - Resurrections - getting tired of these boring contextless celeste tracks

Unreal Gold Soundtrack - All Hallows Sunset - background music. not sure what i'm supposed to get out of this

LR SSJBE Vegeta - Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle - someone skipped this song a minute in out of just pure giving up

MID REVIEW JAM: Ginger Root - "Loretta" - its aight
aesop rock - five fingers - good track
#1 Lee Jackson - Goin Down the Fast Way |Its better than the rest of the set lmao

------------------------------------------
- Bandai Sound Team - Super Saiyan God SS Evolved Vegeta: Not a fan but I understand how important Vegeta is to short Mexican culture

-Matisyahu - One Day: This sounds like Pete Buttigieg would use it in his campaign.

- La-Mulana Remake Soundtrack - Giant's Cry: This song stood out so little I thought it blended with Goin Down the Fast Way

-Lena Raine - Resurrections | Celeste: Resident Evil save room music. BORING!

-I Am a Lake of Burning Orchids - The Cold Neon | I thought this was too boring too often. It would like, be a song but then it would go back and stay at noise too often.

- Paul McCartney - Listen To What The Man Said: This doesn’t sound like the 70s.

MID REVIEW JAM: Ginger Root - "Loretta" - I really like it. It has a nostalgia element because it reminds me of some of the gorillaz tracks that come from the few moments I was happy as a kid.

Aesop Rock - Five fingers - It's good :)
1. Takumi Naramura & Houryu Samejima - Giant's Cry (if you know me enough, you can probably tell that I love this sorta VGM and will always have a place in my heart for it, so it's a pretty obvious choice from me lol; plus, this sounds straight out of Megaman, so yeah, if you didn't know about that fact before, you might at least know that one :P)

2. I Am a Lake of Burning Orchids - The Cold Neon (oh shit, nice, a noise song that I can actually enjoy listening to; ngl, always liked noise as a concept in a pretty similar way to minimalist music stuff actually, in that I like the fact they're both genres that challenge what could be classified as music, but when it comes to noise in particular, I never really tended to like listening to it all too much since I don't tend to handle it all that well, but this was definitely much easier to swallow in general, and honestly it just sounds cool in general, so yeah, nominating this for sure haha)

3. Lee Jackson - Goin Down the Fast Way (wanted to nominate this as well, but both this and the La-Mulana track are very similar in tone, and the latter one appealed to me just a bit more, and also The Cold Neon was just too cool to pass up, so uh. yeah.)

4. Bandai Sound Team - Super Saiyan God SS Evolved Vegeta (pretty cool too, although a bit more generic compared to the other tracks honestly; not that it's a bad thing, but still)

5. Lena Raine - Resurrections (oh yeah, this is the Celeste track 8-bit Music Theory covered in his channel right? well, while I would've liked to vote for it, I think it's just a tad too long to my liking sadly, and a bit too repetitive for my liking as well; I do definitely like how it uses that little piano ostinato motif in different and cool ways, but it still doesn't change the fact that it's still ultimately the same motif lol)

6. Alexander Brandon - All Hallows Sunset (I like Alexander Brandon's work quite a bit personally, but ehh, this didn't grab me nearly as much as I was expecting sadly; maybe if it was this I would've likely voted for it tho, I know it isn't related to this but this shit slaps and someone should nominate it at one point. that's not a suggestion that's a fuckin' order #smrpg{roar})

7. Paul McCartney - Listen To What The Man Said (I'm not that much of a fan of The Beatles sadly, but this was better than I expected... that's all.)

8. Matisyahu - One Day (meh)

MY TWO CHOICES:

1. Takumi Naramura & Houryu Samejima - Giant's Cry
2. Matisyahu - One Day

HONORABLE MENTIONS:
3. Bandai Sound Team - Super Saiyan God SS Evolved Vegeta
4. Lee Jackson - Goin Down the Fast Way
5. Lena Raine - Resurrections

AND THE OTHER SONGS:
6. Paul McCartney - Listen To What The Man Said
7. Alexander Brandon - All Hallows Sunset
8. I Am a Lake of Burning Orchids - The Cold Neon

Lena Raine - Resurrections
Paul McCartney - Listen To What The Man Said

Not the easiest set to lock a second vote into, but it works. Some good stuff all around in here with a good range of genres, I feel like All Hallows Sunset was sold a little short but that's probably just because I recognize it from the winning OWDC entry.

I wouldn't call this set BAD but most of it was just not my kind of music at all

1. Jeroen Tel - Nine One One: REALLY good. I've heard some of this guy's other works, but this one's my favorite.
2. sweet trip - Sept: Wasn't liking this at first but it started to grow on me a few minutes in. It's a song that gets progressively better as it goes on.
---------------
3. C2C - Down the Road: Had a hard time picking between this and #2 but I feel like this song would get really annoying after a while
4. New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle: This one was okay, I guess? Didn't really make me feel anything
5. Macroblank - heart sinks: Same as #4 except moreso
6. Jun Ishikawa & Dan Miyakawa - Taking Over the Halberd: https://genius.com/Nintendo-kirby-right-back-at-ya-theme-song-lyrics
7. Polyphia - O.D.: Kinda boring
8. Animal Collective - Slippi: thanks
