SMWCentral Official Annual Music Tourney #1 2021 - end

MusicOther Contest/Event

Fearofdark - Lovesickness
Takeshi - G (RayForce)

Very close round; would probably have picked two different ones depending on my mood.

1. Fearofdark - Lovesickness (well, it is FoD I guess, and I normally tend to like his stuff so fair enough I guess lmao; not too much outside of that tho, it's just really cool sounding #tb{:)})

2. Takeshi - G (RayForce) (oh shit, nice, didn't know someone submitted anything Rayforce related, I found this soundtrack not too long ago, and while I haven't listened to the entirety of it, this is one of the songs I listened to before, so the original is certainly fairly fresh on my mind as a result; anyway, as a alternative, jazzier take on the tune, this isn't bad at all, although, like Sinc, the original would've been a better choice IMO, although this isn't the track I like the most from this game either, this one is, so that one could've also been a solid choice too, but yeah, it's certainly good enough to vote for, so it's whatever lol)

3. Chris Christodoulou - Reaper (and) Blues (nice bluesy jazzy type of track I suppose, although it didn't wow me as much as I would've hoped for, which kinda sucks since I tend to be fairly into this kinda music, but all around it was... just fine, honestly)

4. Yasumasa Kitagawa - Partners ~ The Game is Afoot! Let's Dance, my Dear Fellow!! (also very nice music like the above, except this one is more so heated flamenco music which is nice as well, but since I tend to be biased over jazzier sounding shit, it's slightly worse, but still not too bad; still need to play this game/series btw, either that or check out a playthrough of it, still don't know what to do about it yet)

5. Setsuo Yamamoto & Tokuro Fujiwara - Round 02 Riverside (well, I can't say who did what track in this one, but if this is Setsuo's doing, I wouldn't be surprised, it certainly sounds like something he'd do lmao; anyway, it's pretty cool, and sounds fairly Megaman-ish as well, which makes sense since it's Capcom and from one of the composers for the first Megaman X game at that... but honestly, at this point my tastes have definitely evolved a lot more nowadays, so I'm not nearly as into this sound as I used to lol)

6. ??? - Fond My Mind (not too bad, but ehh, it doesn't rock my world either I suppose. it's fine.)

7. Ginger Root - Juban District (same as above, but slightly worse in my opinion)

8. BilliumMoto - Door Nock (Long) (fairly bland sounding dubstep/EDM with repeating vocals and a bunch of wubs. yeah.)

MY TWO CHOICES:

1. YASUMASA KITAGAWA - PARTNERS ~ THE GAME IS AFOOT! LET'S DANCE, MY DEAR FELLOW!!: So epic, energetic, the instruments make great melodies and set the beat very well.
2. ??? - FOND MY MIND: Deep, amazing and groovy.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:
3. Setsuo Yamamoto & Tokuro Fujiwara - Round 02 Riverside
4. Takeshi - G (RayForce)
5. Chris Christodoulou - Reaper (and) Blues
6. Fearofdark – Lovesickness:
It sounds like an actual theme from a Famicom videogame and does it incredibly well.

AND THE OTHER SONGS:
7. Ginger Root - Juban District
8. BilliumMoto - Door Nock (Long)

Takeshi - G (RayForce)
Setsuo Yamamoto & Tokuro Fujiwara - Round 02 Riverside

SET S RESULTS:
Fearofdark - Lovesickness (8)
Yasumasa Kitagawa - Partners ~ The Game is Afoot! Let's Dance, my Dear Fellow!! (7)

Ginger Root - Juban District (5)
Takeshi - G (RayForce) (5)
??? - Fond My Mind (3)
Setsuo Yamamoto & Tokuro Fujiwara - Round 02 Riverside (2)
Chris Christodoulou - Reaper (and) Blues (1)
BilliumMoto - Door Nock (Long) (1)

Was not a huge fan of this set, unfortunately.

1. Dominic Ninmark - Crystal Caverns (Crystal Rafflar's Stage): Anyone that knows me knows that I love me some Mega Man, but I've never bothered to listen to X Corrupted's soundtrack. I'm generally not that into the X1-X3 soundfont for most songs, but this one's pretty good. Also, this is almost surely a coincidence, but some parts of it sound weirdly similar to the T-Square song that was in Set A.
2. Yoshimi Kudo & Yuzo Koshiro - Labyrinth III & Labyrinth IV [Super Arrange]: Really interesting song. Don't have much to say other than "it's good".
---------------
3. Gérard Calvi - Obélix Samba: This sounds like a fusion of Cuphead and DK Jungle Climber. I like it.
4. Michael Oakley - Control: This song's alright. I honestly might've liked it better if it was just an instrumental.
5. Eric Barone - Nature's Crescendo: It's okay.
6. David Glen Eisley - Sweet Victory: Memes and SpongeBob references aside, I don't like this song very much. It's just really boring classic rock.
7. Namie Amuro feat. Hatsune Miku - B who I want 2 B: I had to log into my ancient Spotify account for the first time in like 3 years just to listen to this (it wasn't worth it).
8. m.i.a. - teqkilla: This is one of the most annoying songs I've ever heard
Check out my WIP romhack!

List Soundtrack - List Hacks

Mega Man X3 OSTs
Eric Barone - Nature's Crescendo
Yoshimi Kudo & Yuzo Koshiro - Labyrinth III & Labyrinth IV [Super Arrange]
1. Yoshimi Kudo & Yuzo Koshiro - Labyrinth III & Labyrinth IV [Super Arrange] (fucking great, but it's arranged by a member of Basiscape anyway so I'm not at all surprised lol; I heard a lot about the arranger of this song in particular honestly, maybe I'll try and see if I can check their works in more detail at one point... and maybe the rest of Basiscape's composers as well, at that #smrpg{cool})

2. Dominic Ninmark - Crystal Caverns (Crystal Rafflar's Stage) (honestly, this is one of the weaker tracks in Corrupted's soundtrack for me, but it's not that I hate it, not at all; it's just that the soundtrack in general is very solid, and tons of the themes on it could easily beat it one-on-one... but that said, when it's not compared to the rest of Corrupted's music, it's actually fairly solid on it's own, so meh, fuck it, just take my vote lmao)

3. Gérard Calvi - Obélix Samba (damn, nice, this is actually pretty authentic to the style, and I'm saying that as a Brazilian too lol; very pleasantly surprised to hear this in a Asterix movie too, it's pretty cool stuff... too bad it doesn't win out the other songs for me personally, but yeah, it's definitely a pretty solid third for sure haha)

4. Michael Oakley - Control (man I fucking love synthwave, but man did this not do all that much for me; I think it's likely due to the vocals like Jupi said before, since I personally tend to be more into the 80s synth aspect of it and definitely like it being more center-stage than have it be structured like a 80s synth pop track... which isn't a particularly bad thing mind you, but yeah, it does make it sound slightly more generic than it would've had otherwise :P)

5. Eric Barone - Nature's Crescendo (this sounds like commercial music if there was actual heart and soul put into it, which I guess isn't too bad all things considered, but other than that, it's fine enough I guess, it's fairly inoffensive, but not good enough to wow me either)

6. David Glen Eisley - Sweet Victory (yeah, it's a iconic song I guess, but honestly I never cared about Spongebob anyway, so I never had the nostalgia value others had for it, and the song itself? it's just whatever to me as well; not bad, but not like, extremely good either)

7. Namie Amuro feat. Hatsune Miku - B who I want 2 B (well, I guess this reminded me that I somehow had a Spotify account... which isn't a good thing mind you, but at least it's worth talking about more than this LOL; sorry Miku, but even you couldn't salvage this one #smrpg{ohno})

8. m.i.a. - teqkilla (man is the lead fucking obnoxious, holy fucking hell; the sound design and production here is all around dreadful too, all around a waste of 6 minutes honestly)

Does this URL work as an alternative?

Seems to be working for myself and others. I've updated the original set post to add this link.

Pretty decent all around.
Thanks! I wasn't interested in creating accounts to listen to entries, hence the video link in question that I found that I felt was at least what I thought was the full song (albeit courtesy of a music video).

I choose the following this go round...
  • Yoshimi Kudo & Yuzo Koshiro - Labyrinth III & Labyrinth IV [Super Arrange]
  • Eric Barone - Nature's Crescendo

Half of them I ultimately decided not to qualify. As for the others...
  • David Glen Eisley - Sweet Victory was in the running, but I ultimately chose Yoshimi Kudo & Yuzo Koshiro - Labyrinth III & Labyrinth IV [Super Arrange] instead.
  • The other bracket was de-facto between Gérard Calvi - Obélix Samba and Eric Barone - Nature's Crescendo. Obélix Samba I felt seemed a bit more lively than the latter (and certainly a classic execution-wise), however I ultimately chose Nature's Crescendo due to that having some moments of what I thought could essentially be tranquility.
m.i.a. - teqkilla | fuck yes she can do no wrong. the instrumental on this track is insane.
Eric Barone - Nature's Crescendo | kinda in love with the stardew valley ost, spent many hours hearing this track. it's such a summer bop. part at :55 knocks my head off.

Michael Oakley - Control | found this to be kinda average 80s inspired synth pop
David Glen Eisley - Sweet Victory | spongebob band geeks episode plays
Namie Amuro feat. Hatsune Miku - B who I want 2 B | hyperpop anthem but i wish it just had a bit more energy and was crazy as hell tbh
Gérard Calvi - Obélix Samba | tbh this is good i just dont really like listening to it lol
Dominic Ninmark - Crystal Caverns (Crystal Rafflar's Stage) | it's cute but honestly im not a big fan of really any of the mega man soundfonts, esp x. gets killed for saying this.
Yoshimi Kudo & Yuzo Koshiro - Labyrinth III & Labyrinth IV [Super Arrange] | this is a weird ass track, it's fun though.
1. TEQKILLA - i really want to like this song, and i kinda do, just not in the "woah bro what?!?!" way. Grimes meets Sophie but in a mediocre fashion. darn. fuck it.

2. Astérix au Cinéma - Les 12 travaux d'Astérix: Obélix samba: im watching sketchs dad dance through the window, they call me el acosador de la noche
--------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Etrian Odyssey III Super Arrange - Labyrinth III & Labyrinth IV: best vgm in the tournament

4. Stardew Valley OST - Summer (Nature's Crescendo): catch me planting shit

5. Michael Oakley - Control: good synth

6. Sweet Victory - David Glen Eisley: yooo they got the spongebob song

7. Mega Man X Corrupted: Mega man music

9. B Who I Want 2 B [full song] SOPHIE // Hatsune Miku: оставь меня в покое педофил
--------------------------------------------------------------------
pre-review jam: Son of Sam - Elliott Smith: this whole album is just unfair

Have a Ciger - Pink Floyd: the famous cig break while youre trippin to wish you were here

Chocolate Town - Ween: one of the all time great bands

and like 10 other songs because SKETCHS COMPUTER EXPLODED (all of these songs beat this set)

mid-review jam: Cloudbusting - Kate Bush: it is raining outside
