some peeps know about this but yeh still not exactly ded
Any advice for these levels? I tried to turn it into a gif so you can see how it plays, but I couldnt figure out how/ was impatient so here's lunar magic pics instead. For the advice, I want to know how I can make these levels close as I can, to the original SMW. This hack I want to be like Return to Dinosaur Land, like a sequel from an alternate reality, and I wanna get the level design on par with SMW. Maybe to lofty of a goal, but at least as good or better than Return to Dinosaur Land. Don't have Level 1, since that one isn't done. I'm gonna try and study the original as well, and see what I'm missing, but any advice is good. I'll probably be constantly going back to old levels and trying to make them better.
Also the aesthetics, judge them too. I know its just vanilla, but things like the landmasses, enemy placement, spacing of things, etc. and how it can be more accurate to the original game

Hello SMW Central community. Here showing a couple of photos of the first level of my secret project that I will release soon. But before that I would like some thought on the level. (Please ignore the status bar glitch, I use ZSNES because I'm having trouble using SnesX.)

Looks like a solid level and you´re using at least a custom item, too. Other than that it seems to be a tad bit generic tbh, so more footage would help for a proper feedback :)

I did draw someting YI related. Not sure if I'll use it in my hack.

I opted for a metal YI tileset.
The start:


Lava can be inserted and arrows can be merged with walls.


Platform slopes can be added and goal platforms can be united with walls.


Interested in very steep slopes? Spikes can be behind walls.


Certain diagonal walls have vertical shading:


Purple triangle blocks have been upgraded into metal versions.

Not the biggest fan of a BG, but the FG is absolutely terrific and definitely does the job. I especially like how you inserted the slopes into the tileset. #smw{:TUP:}

Sorry about the BG. I just had to make the BG use 128 tiles, in favor of more FG tiles.
No need to be sorry, you did a great job - and I can understand the issue of favouring FG-stuff over the BG quite well.

I think the thing that irks me about the BG is not even that much related to it's complexity, but it has more to do with the fact that it could be a good FG-tileset in it's own right. You could add black outlines to certain tiles and you'd have a tileset for a room of sorts, something you might meet a NPC in for example. And it could be easily expanded into more.

As for the BG itself, it's a bit tricky to explain for me, so I hope I'm making some sense:
As a BG the graphics look kind of odd because these "Wall/Ground-tiles" have all the size of 16x16 pixel, like you would expect them to appear on the FG and this feels odd since the BG is suuposed to be farther away so you would expect the wall/ground-tiles to be smaller in size.

Yoshi's Island is actual a great example of how to do it since the game features a few levels which have a BG which looks like it's "a level" as they feature some grassland-platforms, sometimes even with enemies but all the graphics are much smaller in size compared to how they are appear on the FG so you can't confuse them in any way with the actual FG.

Edit: I also just saw your BG with the smashers on the other thread... and it's absolutely epic! I could see myself definitely using it, but... like that other BG, not as a BG. Again, this could be easily used as is as an absolute terrific FG-tileset! #ab{O_O}

The big issue for me regarding the BG is that it is too much of the same color with the foreground; there doesn't need to be a lot to a background, because the background isn't the focus, so long as it provides the atmosphere necessary and does its job well.

It's been a while since I've played his hacking in the old "Mario's Keytastrophe"!

I was on my way to the end, and in World 3, Gentleman Staccato visited the star through the secret road and discovered it here in the new world.



Looking at the unfinished screenshot, it seems bold, but the song was so fun while making great music. #w{=D}

Are you preparing for a total of 110 exits?

I think it'd be nice to create a new stage. I've broken all the 51 exits. However, I hope the full version of C3 room will be opened someday.
