Games I'm making from scratch using just C++ and SDL, including a Breakout clone and a WIP RPG

Non-Hack GameDemoScreenshots

Hello everyone. I'm a computer science college graduate, and, in addition to my Super Mario World hacks, I'm trying to make some games completely from scratch using just C++ and a C++ code library called Simple DirectMedia Layer.

First, I want to show off a completed Breakout clone using a YouTube video as a guide. Breakout is one of my favorite games, so I'm glad to have made a version from scratch. It does feel a little clunky, though.

Download it here!

Now for something I'm REALLY proud to be making, which is an RPG not being made through RPG Maker, Game Maker, Unity, Unreal, or any existing game engine, but completely from scratch using just C++ and SDL. I bought a book called How to Make an RPG, and I'm following that. It has been a really rough road. Here is what I have so far.

Download it here!

Controls:
arrow keys: move
Z key: interact/confirm
X key: go back to the previous menu
S key: open the menu and completely close the menu and go back to the game even if you're in the item menu

(That room doesn't actually appear in the game. It's a screen shot of the game in development of me showing off the menus. Technically, the game in that download link is still in development, and it ends in a soft lock after opening the grate.)

I remember seeing this in your server this is very well done and the amount of effort put into this is wonderful.

LAYOUT FOOTER:
I am optimistic about your RPG project, especially since you are making it from scratch. When you have mastery and have skills you can do (almost) anything and as an artist who don't get along with numbers I find this amazing.
Exclusive content and nostalgia!
With all the work that seems involved, this seems criminally undervisited and I've nominated you for spotlight.

Let me try it out now :)

Edit: OK. Please don't harm me for saying that but I think the video size is pretty small and hurts my eyes, it's a pity we can't seem to increase it nor play it full scren. But again I don't know how big of an ordeal that would be to enable it in C++.
Nice to see you're still working on this. I may have already seen most of it off-site, but nice to hear you're still making progress! Hope it's coming along nicely. I'm sure there's still a long road ahead before it goes anywhere, but nice nevertheless!
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
That RPG game you've made from scratch looks super impressive, and I respect the amount of effort you've put into making it work! It's pretty similar to SquareEnix games from the SNES Era, like Final Fantasy VI and Live-a-Live, both of which are personal favorites of mine!
Just so you know, I'm very active on the site anymore like I was before; I'm mainly on Discord now.
I'm a big fan of the first game, physics are kinda different from the old ones but that's cool, just found the game window too small. XD

Do these also run on any consoles or just PC?

Making games from scratch is actually a rather easy thing depending on your definition of a game. Things get more complex if you go beyond that and make a game like a text adventure and even further if there is a playfield and add in graphics.
It's definitively interesting to see that someone made a game from scratch.

That also made me realise that I should probably go back and learn SDL again...
I remember you showed me that WIP RPG. Even though there was almost nothing to do (and the screen was really tiny), it's interesting that you coded all that from scratch. It'll be interesting to see where that RPG game goes from here. Also, I didn't know you made a Breakout clone from scratch, too (unless you showed that off on your server and I simply forgot)!
