C3 SINGLE LEVEL COLLABORATION 2021

Super Mario WorldOther

I wasn't, and never was planning on doing anything for C3. Over the past few days though, I (And a few of my friends) gradually kept thinking about a one-level collaboration hack, where anyone can make one sublevel, which then all get compiled into one continuous level at the end of C3.
There's a catch though, you get until the end of C3 to submit. so make the most out of what you have!

Without further ado, the submission rules:
- Accepted submissions formats are .bps or .mwl
- Include your map16 blocks, ExGFX and music as separate files alongside your level in a .zip, as well as the custom sprites, ASM and blocks used.
- Level UberASM without hijacks is allowed
- custom ExGFX, palettes and layer 3 tilemaps are allowed, for one sublevel only
- You are allowed to use a single map16 page.
- You are allowed to edit mario's global palette. In the compilation it will only take effect on your level.
- You can have up to 5 custom sprites
- No troll/unbeatable entries
- No joke entries as well
- No patches
- And, sorry to break it to you all, but no kaizo entries. Challenging entries are more than welcome though! Just consider that casual players will be playing this.
- You can only use a single song for your entry.
- Your level should end with a goal tape, orb, pipe or door exit.

- use this thread to submit.

HEADS UP:
- The compilation will have an unlimited timer and lives, and instant retry gamemode UberASM. Harder entries will be left to later parts of the level.
- At the beginning of every entry there will be a checkpoint.
- The player keeps powerups from the previous sublevel and will likely not end up in small Mario form for your entry! So take that into account.
- Remember that anyone can make a compilation using these entries, and not necessarily me.
- Your entry can be as short as a single screen and it will still be accepted, you don't need custom assets either, anything goes. Just submit and you'll be credited!

If this thread does not cover up something you're curious about, don't hesitate to ask.

Benny Harvey RIP, miss you big man.

What about custom music?
Is that allowed or disallowed?
Is there going to be a base rom? How is this organized?
So, how will the sublevels be arranged in the final level? From easiest to hardest, by submission order? I think a base rom would be useful too, since everyone would be working with the same... well... base...

Yes, only one song per entry, adding this to the rules.

It's all vanilla SMW, but the compilation will use instant retry to make things easier

Easiest to hardest, so players can stop once they realize they can't keep up.

Thanks for asking!

Is there a limit on how long/short the rooms could be? Also I am exicted to see how this turns out.

You can make it as long as you want. The level will not have a time limit in the compilation, as well

Sounds fun. Is the finished product going to be submitted to SMWC? It'd be interesting to see how a compilation like this would work out.

If everything turns out as intended, Yes, it will be submitted as a hack

Ooh, this sounds like it has lots of potential! I might just join in and make a sublevel for fun too. Are custom palettes allowed as well, or is the collaboration limited to vanilla SMW palettes only?

I'm very curious to see how things end up with this concept!
What is a Lunar Magic, and can I eat it?

Well, exGFX are allowed so, palettes should be as well

If I have Time, I surely wanted to try making a Level for this Collab, But I have some questions. If it's Sub-Level to Sub-level, how that should end the screens? it have to be by Pipes/Doors or if is allowed the use of Goal Flags? and how about The Dragon Coins and 3UP Moons? they will be allowed, and if is, how that it will works?
I was also asking about the Entrances if it have to be Normal or by a Pipe. This is the only doubts that I have for now. Have a Good C3!
I'll guess I'll go first.

Dragon coins and 3-up moons don't matter for now, and the dragon coin counter will be reset on each level entry, so you can add them if you want.
As for the level exit, it should be either an orb, goal tape, pipe or door. Entrances don't really matter.

I'll make a sublevel for this. This is a cool idea, and I hope it gets more attention. However, as I'm beginning to make my level, I just want to know if you plan to use SA-1. I'm not sure if I should plan to structure my level in a way that reduces lag or not as of now.

SA-1 is allowed.

Edit: as for everyone else who's participating, please check the main post every so often, rules are constantly being updated.

This is a really good idea, it would be cool to make a sublevel for a short collab!
I have a gimmick that I wanted to use, but I need to know if custom blocks are allowed.

Yes, they're allowed as well, i totally forgot about those! Updating the rules once again.

Here is my thing. Please tell me if I should nerf it.

Here is an update.
Heh, probably won't have time to participate here but I support this idea and can't wait to see the final result. Good luck guys!
