Discord Bots - Clyde, Palette, Quote and the SPC Player!

Other

Introducing...

Clyde

“I may look intimidating, but I'm actually really friendly! I'll still kill you though.”

Clyde is a bot meant for moderation, specifically, monitoring user joins/leaves, automating role grants, and even integrating with external authentication systems using OAuth2.

NOTE: This bot is still under active development, and as such you cannot actually use him at all! Even so, he's an essential part of the bot family, alongside the other three bots below.

Palette

“You want a color for your name? Just leave it to me!”

Palette is a bot that allows you to assign yourself custom name colors. Instead of choosing from a pre-defined set, she will allow you to pick any color under the sun, creating a new role for every user. You can even set up assignable roles, so that users can choose from a select few roles to assign to themselves! She works best in small servers, as Discord has a limit of 250 roles per server. She's also currently the only one of my bots available through Slash Commands!

Quote

“I know your past. I know your future. I'm here to remind you about it.”

Quote is a bot that can fetch old messages from a channel, and randomly quote them when asked to, allowing you to relive past moments. He can also mashup words from old messages together, search through articles from The Cutting Room Floor and a bunch of other miscellaneous things. Of note is also that he has a completely built-in, but mostly separate, reminder subsystem so you won't forget about future events.

NOTE: This bot is in dire need of maintenance and cannot be added to any other servers at the moment. I hope to have these updates done throughout the course of this C3 so that he can be properly released, but it's really unlikely that it will happen due to work-related reasons.

SPC Player

“Live SPC jamming is now in!”

The SPC Player from the website is now available as a bot, and this one will play your SPC files LIVE in ANY voice channel. It allows for queuing up songs, looping songs, shuffling and more, with even more features planned for the future! Due to resource limits, the bot will only join one channel per server.

Notes

These bots are still under development, so issues may arise. Furthermore, I'll also have work obligations today and tomorrow which means I may not be available to fix issues immediatelly. I'll try my best!

While these bots are public for the moment, if I happen to run into resource limitations in the future (I do host these myself), I may have to restrict their usage later on. We'll see.

SPECIAL THANKS TO:
  • Mr Scotsman: for doing the CRT television sprites used by the SPC Player, and many sprites for Quote (you may need to contact him if you want the sprites)
  • Telinc1: for creating the SPC Player used in SMWCentral, which was simply adapted to work as a Discord bot
  • My friends who helped me test the bot before its release!

These bots are all really cool. ESPECIALLY the SPC Player. Nice to see em released and out in the wild. Good job, Ran.
It's so exciting to finally see these bots released publicly! Naturally, my favourite is the SPC player one. I'm so happy for you that you've managed to get everything working, especially from where the SPC bot started with detuned pitch and hogging up all your memory, ha. You did it!!!

Sidenote, but the CSS you have in your post is nice and clean, I love it. It makes everything look so Professional.

Wow, these bots sounds fantastic! How intensive are they to run? Palette sounds incredibly useful for my personal server of ~10 or so active people, and it would be neat to have access to our own personalized colors, as opposed to the ones I've set up.

Just a question about Palette, though; can the custom colors be changed without creating additional roles? I have some folks who like to change their role colors seasonally or similarly to their avatars, and it would be super convenient to have that level of flexibility for them.

Again, these are fantastic. Good job, Ran!

Tested the SPC bot, really nice. I though it was made for searching music on SMWCentral as a music bot does with Youtube and etc. But is still really nice one.

Pallete is cool, I always wanted a bot like that even I can't actualy test rn cz it can't change admin's color.

Good job man!
I'm not Insane

There have been multiple times I've thought to myself how nice it would be to have a bot that could play SPC's to make it a lot easier to show stuff off to my non-SMWC friends, so this sounds amazing to me. The other bots also seem pretty useful and cool, so nice work putting all of these together!
embed fail!!

I liked the functions of the bots. Thanks for releasing them, I will probably use SCP Player.
I really like the idea of Palette, and the usefulness, convenience of the SPC player. I hope you can get these bots out of the "under development phase", they seem like a handy thing to have on the SMWC Discord for moderators and for.. really anyone.

Yes! If you already have a custom color, it'll edit the existing one rather than create a new one. You may need to be careful if you have roles with colors that have additional permissions other than the default ones. If you want to make sure a colored role is not accidentally changed by the bot, just don't assign the bot any role higher than it.
Just loaded Palette up into my server, works like a charm! Thank you so much, Ran! These bots are so useful.

Oh RanAs, das bangin innit? no but really it's nice to see that you have gotten to put these bots you put so much effort into. Hopeful you'll ave people who get some great use out of them.
Thank you and have a nice day

The SPC player is a really cool idea, and Quote also sounds hilarious. Looking forward to seeing what people do with these.
Check out my WIP romhack!
Thank you all for the support! I'll try to get Quote available before C3 ends (currently he's only on the support/test server I linked above).

Also, just a heads up. In case anyone runs into any error, please inform them to me! I say this because the SPC Player just ran into three errors this evening:

- Error (ID: 674c269d84) at 2021-07-02T21:50:37.323Z
- Error (ID: 59e501390b) at 2021-07-02T22:23:16.338Z
- [the third one crashed the bot, so no timestamp is available]

Right now it's around 2021-07-03T00:23:27.848Z, so these errors happened around 2 hours ago from the time of posting. I believe I've already fixed what caused the issue (same issue for all three of them), but either way, it's important for me to know when something goes wrong so I can fix it!
Oh my god I'm so excited about the SPC Player especially, I'll definitely be dabbling in using that in my various servers for SURE

Well done with all of these though! Quote reminds me of the similar function in a lot of Twitch bots, can't wait to see what goofy comments people find themselves adding to it
These look really nice, I personally might play around with palette later and add it to a small friend server so we can have our own colors.
I more or less knew about this before this release (hehe) but never expected 4 different bots. They may be simple but sometimes people just want bots who does simple tasks. Good job bro.
