Hack Level Tierlists Discussion + JUMP Levels Tierlist

You can share hack tierlists here and talk about them or discuss the feasibility of certain hack tierlists, what they would be like, et cetera.

This was originally a thread just to show off a tierlist for all of the levels in JUMP, but it might as well be slightly changed for discussion a little more broad.

---

A few months ago, I made a tierlist of all of the levels in the hack JUMP. (This list includes the levels without exits as well.) I already showed this off on the Discord server a while ago, but I'd like to post it here just to see if it can generate any discussion here.

Levels in each tier are not in any order. If you are curious, my least favorite level is Cryophobia Cavern. This is most certainly a very hot take, but my favorite level is Baseball Mountain.

Looking back on my tierlist, there are probably a few things I'd change but overall this is an accurate representation of my current opinions on each level.

Hopefully this image isn't too big.

I'm planning on making a JUMP 1/2 level tierlist in the future; when I make it I'll update this thread.

Anyway, discuss! What do you agree with? What do you disagree with? Any levels in particular that you have strong opinions on? Do you have your own tierlist?
Of levels that I can remember off the top of my head, the only thing that stands out as being way too high is Chuck Magnet. I found the level to be infuriating at times due to being at the mercy of Chuckleton or whatever his name is. It would just not behave in the way I expected to at times. I'd move that down to E at best. I'd also consider Satly Roasted Peanuts more of a D than an E.

Speaking as a creator of this particular level, I'm kind of surprised to see The Black Hole get B Tier considering how much flack it got when the hack released. I guess I can see why, maybe the aesthetic or the non-linear nature might've made it a unique enough experience for you. Also the boss had a neat idea, even if it's totally ruined by the fact it's
troll face
.

Appreciate all of mine getting top half. #smrpg{gasp}

Yeah, from what I have heard from others, Chuck Magnet can be frustrating but I personally wouldn't put it in E tier. I find that the level is built around Charles Chuckington II very well and the only problem seems to be Charles himself. During my playthrough of the game, Chuck Magnet was a fun and easy level that I actually had to play the second half of twice because I didn't get the last Dragon Coin. If Charles was more predictable I could see more people liking the level; I suppose I just got really lucky with how cooperative Charles was.

This is an interesting situation because while I like it, I also feel that I'm a little biased considering that I watched your video about your worst levels before playing JUMP. As a result, I probably tried to look on the bright side when playing your level. I'd consider it very messy, but other than that I don't have any gripes. I liked the aesthetic you were going for, and I found the setups enjoyable. With the omission of the fact that the boss is
troll face
it was good as well. It was the easiest level in the Special World (for me), and while it certainly isn't perfect, it was a fun time. A solid level.

cry about it

(I don't understand the appeal of Glacier Soup at all. It isn't terrible, but I found it unfun and uninteresting.)

I would say someone should judge SMWCP levels as well #smw{:TUP:}

While I most certainly disagree with your tierlist (joke or not), I would agree that The Smog that Smiles Back is pretty good. It is such an interesting concept that isn't used in an annoying fashion. It is one of those levels that exemplifies what JUMP is.

From information I have gathered from the community, most levels in SMWCP are pretty terrible (if not all of them). I think judging/ranking all of the levels would be a waste of effort considering that they are of similar quality and someone must play them all. Furthermore, the amount of people on the site who would be able to share their own opinions on each level would be low, only eroding the tierlist's purpose further.

SMWCP2 might be a better game to make a level tierlist out of the SMWC collabs, and maybe SMWCI too (when those games are finished). Tierlists for other big collaborations like the VIP series would be better choices as well. There is a lot to pick from, but SMWCP probably isn't a good choice, for the end result and for the effort.

But I digress.

That would be really easy; just move every level straight into F tier!

Wow, that's savage

Okay then, I'll just change it to SMWCP2, like what Anas says.

Side note: I have not playing SMWCP or SMWCP2, but they seem like big collabs, so I put it in this thread.

SMWCP has some good levels. I remember best levels were in World 3 and 4, plus World 8 and Special. Some others were normal, and some other were levels that exist.

Would be interesting to see a tier list of SMWCP levels, but I won't be person who will do that.
Since this thread got a little derailed, I decided to edit it a little for broader discussion. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to do this or not, but I'm sure if there is a problem, it will be brought to my attention.

Sure, why not, having JUMP discussion only won't be much fun. And shhh, I was the cause of the derailing by bringing SMWCP into the picture, don't tell that to anyone.

I'm glad someone else shares my disdain for "Effortland". It's a huge difficulty spike out of nowhere.

Even though it's not a level, I'd also put the "Snow Covered Base Camp" in F just because it's life-farm is uniquely terrible lol. At least the others guaranteed 99 lives.

The minigame potentially giving you 1 life really got I my nerves when I was grinding "Peaks of Revolution" and "Peek-A-Boo" (two levels right next to the base which gave me trouble)
Yeah, Effortland isn't great by any means. Not only is it a noticeable difficulty spike, but it is also (in my opinion) a poorly designed and messy level. The secret exit is rather irritating as well. I wouldn't think of it as the worst level in the game, but it is at the bottom.

As for Snow-Covered Base Camp, I certainly agree with your views on the quality of the life farm; at that point it was actually more efficient to just farm the three 1-Ups in Suspicious Warehouse over and over.

However, I ended up placing it in C tier as it does have some other features which aren't bad. (Also, compared to "rest areas" such as Yoshi's House and Forest Bubble Orchard, I'd consider Snow-Covered Base Camp to be clearly better.) Apart from the abysmal life farm, the rest area has a few (possibly useful) powerups, a moive theater with some helpful videos and the first saving point in the game that isn't tied to a level exit. So while there are definitely better rest areas in the game, it isn't the absolute worst, at least to me.
I've been replaying JUMP so I've been going through some of the levels, possibly attempting to 100% it. So far I agree with most of it, but one level I'd put way lower would be Disco Dance Party. I think the darkness ruins the level for me, I think it'd be much more fun if I could see from further ahead.
