Super Hammer Bro

Standard

Hello everyone! I want to introduce you to my SMW Hack, Super Hammer Bro. It features 8-bit SMB2J/SMB1 style graphics, as well as some very basic level design, as I want it to feel a lot like SMB1/SMB2J. It'll be four worlds long (six if you count the Star and Special Worlds).

Now, here's some screenshots of the game!:

Anyways, I hope you enjoy what I have so far! And stay tuned for more updates!
I really like NES styled hacks and playing as a Hammer Bro is another interesting way to keep things fresh.

I'm assuming you can of course throw hammers?
I must say I really like the Underwater Background with how you've managed to create depth with the simplistic tiles that SMB1/2 has to offer.
I'll be looking forward to seeing more of this as it progresses. #smrpg{y}
Thank you! And yes, he can throw hammers. They're just hex edited fireballs though, so they're nothing too fancy.

In what way specifically did you hex edit the fireballs? Did you just change the graphics in some way, or did you actually make it so that the hammers behave the same way they do in the original SMB? If the latter, then I'm impressed - an idea like this has quite a lot of potential in my eyes.

Really liking the visuals on the screens you've shown, good work. The water level looks particularly nice. I think the "H. BRO" text on the status bar looks off with the current palette, as the green blends in a bit with the blue skies on the overworld and green blocks on the water level, but that's more of a nitpick than anything.
@K.T.B It's actually the latter. What I did IIRC is edit a hex address to change thrown fireball direction from down to up.

@Aeon Thank you! Also, about the HUD, a while ago I changed it to be a bit more like the one from SMB1, which should hopefully fix that issue.

Also, while I'm here, here's some new screenshots!:
