Hi. I'm Ryan, and I'm here to show you something.

As my millions of fans are well aware, Ganymede has been my project. It started in January of 2013, long before anyone had any idea that the 2012 movie just had the last two digits out of place. I won't bore you with all the details (there's a WIP thread, if that's your thing), just that this has been a life's work, a serious, serious project that means everything to me. I've always wanted to make a game, it's really awesome to actually be doing it and seeing it come together. I feel total confidence when I make the statement that Ganymede is the biggest Super Mario World romhack ever, in terms of the effort put into make it, and the amount of content it (already) has.

tbh, I want this to be a real game, one day, free of the Super Mario World engine and the copyright issues. That's the dream. I want to release this on consoles. I want to assemble a team to help me do what I can't do. For now, I merely dream.

Please enjoy yourself. I think you'll probably like it. The 2021 Winter C3 demo represents the clearest picture yet of what I am striving to create. I love and appreciate all feedback, big and small.

So, anyway, here it is again, if you missed it above: DOWNLOAD

And here are images of it:

Chapter Two: Land of No Shame
Amazing.
I hope your dream comes true.
Please pardon the eye.
my man I'll say it again that's absolutely stunning and I wish your dream will come to fruition.

I just booted the game and played the intro for now, I'll come back to it after going with my day, but I can already say the text that accompanies the level aaction is just on point. I think you came to master this technique of: telling a story with little phrases that apear as the player progresses in its gameplay. It is very intriguing and immersive and I'm sure I'm gonna love my play.

Cheers!
This is some of the coolest environmental design I've seen in a hack. I love to just look over your world map. It evokes so many feelings of intrigue and adventure.
I sincerely hope your dream can come true some day. You absolutely deserve it.
Man, the aesthetic work on this is on point. I've played it a bit and I like what I see so far, although maybe a bit too story-centric for my taste, but it really looks impressive. I have a couple of remarks to note:
- I got frustrated in "dying light" because what hurts you is not easily discernible from the rest of the purely aesthetic elements. It doesn't look "dangerous" enough, I guess, and it blends in a bit too much in my opinion.
- I don't know how much I like not having a jump sound, but I guess it makes sense if you were going for a more "intimate", atmospheric experience.
- I don't love the camera in the first level, where it vertically follows you steadily when jumping. I guess it's not as bad as I've seen it in other hacks but still feels a bit weird to me.
- The water mechanic is pretty interesting, and it's nice to see it has more than one usage. It can definitely lead to some interesting game design.

Anyway, keep up the good work. #smw{:TUP:}
This looks absolutely stunning! Not gonna lie, this is the first time that I'm actually seeing this hack (at least as far as I can remember). Imagine my surprise realizing that you've already been working on this for 8+ years. Honestly, with how unique it looks, I'm genuinely surprised I didn't notice it earlier. Having the dedication to work on the same hack for such a long time is something that a lot of game developers, incudling myself, can only wish for. I will definitely check this one out!
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
This is one of the few in-progress hacks I've kept a close eye on. Every corner of it is oozing love and dedication and it's truly amazing. It's also been neat watching this hack evolve over time and get more and more refined as it goes on.

Ganymede is my favorite hack to follow. Here, have some of my energy #smrpg{<3}

allow shy guy emojis in post footers you cowards!
This always looks so good when you post updates too it. I am curious for the spinning eye was it easier to do palette animation vs graphic animation?
I've always liked the atmosphere this hack gives. Probably not something I'd actually play (probably) but really interesting to see. The overworld is just awesome.

Thanks so much, everyone. I really appreciate all the nice things you are saying. It really makes all the effort feel worth it!

I have made a trailer, please check the OP to see it.

You may find yourself pleasantly surprised! A lot of the reason this has taken so long is that I've tweaked the gameplay over and over.

Probably it would have been easier to animate graphics, but I enjoy creating effects with canvas cycling. Most animations in the game are palette animations.

How frustrated were you? That the brambles are tough to immediately spot as dangerous is sort of an intentional thing and is me trying a ludonarrative technique. You're a kid who is ignorant of danger and likely to stumble into it without warning. These are the first real harmful obstacles, and getting hurt once will make you more alert and avoid the others. I understood that this is a little unfair, but life is unfair, and that's one of the lessons the boy is going to learn.

Chapter Two: Land of No Shame
As I've told you before on the Discord, this hack looks amazing, with some incredible amounts of creativity. In fact, if it wasn't for the "Super Mario World" tag, I would have thought this was some wholly original homebrew project.

Wow... I have no words to describe the feeling I had when I saw this overworld for the first time. The graphics and presentation are amazing and makes the atmosphere feel shocking and intimidating. The creativity here with the aesthetics and design in general is in another level.

I honestly don't want to play the demo because I want to experience the entire game as a whole when it gets fully released.

Good luck on the project!
That overworld just looks so good, nice job and good luck on this project.

This hack looks great! The overworld looks amazing, and the environments are well-done. I'll keep my eye on this one. Keep up the great work, and good luck getting this finished!
This looks really beautiful the overworld is so well done and the graphics

I'll definetely check this hack once I have some free time. From what I see in the screenshots, you did a superb work in the aesthetics, so yeah, you already caught my attention. Great job. #smrpg{:3}

This is astonishingly superb, doesn't even look like SMW anymore. Defo gonna play it
This looks really interesting and has a real art style to it. :)

So is this a finished hack?

Also, the original copyright actually will expire (you will have to wait many years) but it will expire one day.

If it does anything to sway you, the finished game will be a very different experience than what is available right now.

I could definitely submit this as a finished hack if I wanted to, it's a substantial game as is, 9 total exits. I would guess over a solid hour of gameplay.

The final game will be around 65 levels, upwards of 80 exits. This demo is the first of six chapters. Almost all of the levels already exist in rough (though essentially complete and playable) form, and most of the story is already written.
