And here I am, keeping my word. Anyways I am once again posting a thread for Super Mario Zeal for this C3. I have another new demo out and most of world two and a few levels in world three are playable in this C3's Demo. You can find the download link at the bottom of this post.

With that said, I'm going to awkwardly repost the plot premise for Super Mario Zeal and share some screenies and videos, old and new.

Beautiful project. Like I said other time, seems very interesting. But last time, I wasn't able to play it because I'm not sure how the SMBDX2 works. Could you explain me how I make it play your demo. I'm curious to play it. #smrpg{:3}


@Anorakun: Sure.

1.Download SMBX2 and install it

2.Go to where you installed SMBX2, look for a folder named "worlds" and unzip Super Mario Zeal into the "worlds" folder inside the SMBX2 directory. Ideally it should look something like this:



3. Go the root directory for SMBX2, you'll want to launch "SMBX2.Exe" and then pick Super Mario Zeal from the episode list.




And that should cover it! I wrote this with the reasonable assumption that people might have some confusion over how to run SMBX2.




there's something slightly cursed about the DKC enemies in this style, but they make fine additions gameplay-wise

Thank you for visting my thread so far. I'm admittedly in the midst of redesigning a few of the the worldmaps. I recently finished redesigning the world map for the Lost World and you can check it out in the opening post.




Really looking forward to playing this! Can always expect quality from your work and this is definitely no exception. It's also awesome to see you pioneering a lot more DKC and DKC-inspired content in Super Mario Bros. X, I think this kind of mix between Mario and DK games looks great.

I hope this project keeps getting more attention, it deserves it.
I have played only two levels, but I had a blast playing them. Once I have time, I shall give you feedback in SNESLAB. Sorry, I've been a bit busy with C3, so I hope you understand. I hope more people sees this project, looks very fun and well made. #smrpg{gasp}

I have added a hotfix patch to the opening post. It fixes a few bug in a couple of levels




It’s really nice to see promising SMBX2 projects only 11 months after b4s release, and I definitely enjoyed this game.

World 1 was neat, I specially liked midnight memories because of its ambience, I liked world 2 but it got a bit frustrating, though I did enjoy. On the graphic side, well, it’s great, it contains a lot of variety without leaving SMW style, and of course not just recoloring assets but restyling them, but there’s some backgrounds that can get a bit messy like the giant waterfall or Forest frenzy.

I haven’t gotten time to finish W2 and get to W3 for now but it definitely looks interesting, good job!

I appreciate everyone who has visited this thread and has played the current Demo for Super Mario Zeal. You know in a few months it will be a year to the day I started work om this and this project has come a long way since it's humble origins. It's still early days yet and I am looking forward to making further progress and showing off Super Mario Zeal at the next C3. I wish to thank you all for visiting my thread.




I'm not familiar with SMBX, but this looks both aesthetically pleasing and fun to play. I'll have to download this and play it when I can. Good luck on finishing this, and it looks like you have done some great work so far!

@Von Fahrenheit: Thank you. I actually kinda have a funny story behind that one. I was listening to "Gruntilda's Lair" from Banjo Kazooie while I was making the the original iteration of this map because the song I chose for it ("MAP - Haunted" from VLDC9) sounds a lot like "Gruntilda's Lair". Infact now that I think about it I think it would be cool if someone did a port of Gruntilda's lair in the style of (and with the samples used in) "Map - Haunted" from VLDC9.




I sorta decided to redesign the submap for world 1 after comparing it to all of my pre-existing submap designs and honestly I think I can do a lot better now with the submap design than I did a year ago.




Holy moly, those maps are beautiful! Great design, full of character, and absolutely killer palettes! clap emojis!

Chapter Two: Land of No Shame
@Ondore's Lies: Thank you. You know it's not everyday you get a major SMW Hacker like you commenting on this thread. This C3 has been a great experience for me overall, even if not many people seem to have commented, critique or played the demo of my SMBX episode.




So I have just finished redesigning the submap for World 6 (Wario's Island). The submap is (maybe no so obliviously) based on Wario's Island as shown on the title screen of Wario Land 2 but the original source material is kinda hard to interpret (just like my interpretation of Rare's version of DK Island, kinda funny how that work out), so I had to wing it a little.




I like the pumpkin map and the walk-into-wall warps. I found a few typos in your plot:
