LadiesMan217's SMAS+W with SMM2 Music & Super Mario World: 30th Anniversary Edition (My First Ever Hacks!)

The hardmode on the anniversary edition is quite fun! Haven't checked the SMAS hack yet, but that one is also looking quite

neat!

Finally someone addressed the oddity of "Autumn Mode" not touching the level palettes.

Also this.

One thing I noticed so far (and this was playing on an fx pak so I couldn't take a screenshot as easy): in Yoshi's Island 2 on Hard Mode, if the player is damaged while riding Yoshi, while trying to swallow a Venus Fire Trap, the plant won't get swallowed and will instead just move to where the tongue "dragged" the plant. Not sure what would cause this, or if this is something you could even fix.

This is a vanilla glitch.

Ah, okay. I guess it's just more noticeable with the venus fire trap shooting at you.
Just found what I think its a small oversight? In Donut Secret 1's bonus room, the P-balloon uses a white square for its graphics for some reason.

Edit: also, the game crashed for me when going into the first pipe of Donut Plains 4 and near the end of Vanilla Dome 3, showing a black screen with red lines similar to what happened to @Aram.
This is something I always wanted to see, though there is still some details here and there I would've done in a different way.

Just as a warning, it crashed when I tried going to sublevels in Yoshi's Island 3 and Donut Plains 2.

Its a nice feature I must agree with!

Edit: Crashed when taking the secret exit pipe in Donut Plains 2. #smrpg{ohno} There was also seemed to be sprite issues towards the end of Donut Plains 1, but hopefully these are just issues when playing it on real hardware.

Aw man what? I'll check and see what's going on.

In any case, what I did try was neat! Like I said, it's a nice way to go through the original game all over again, and I did notice the changes from SMA2.

Thanks 😊

I was actually working on a SMW hack that had the similar goal of enhancing it, though yours blows mine out of the water. Nice job!

Also, the P-Balloon in Donut Secret 1 is a white square. Dunno if this affects any other P-Balloons, but just something I noticed. And the door located at Donut Ghost House's secret exit is still miscolored like in the original game.

Edit: Also, was
the Big Boo Boss moved or something. Feels weird not seeing it in it's original level.

Edit 2: The game crashed when I tried to eat a Roulette Power-Up while riding Yoshi.

The p balloon and roulette glitch has also come to my attention from someone else. How strange... I'll check up on it. Also yes on that spoiler lol. Here's to hoping it function in the area it's on now. As for the miscolored Donut Ghost House 1 door in the secret exit, I never actually thought for it to be a mistake... huh. Guess I can change it for consistency.

I loved what you have done with both games in the music department, even thought I didn't really notice any changes to SMB2's music but to be fair I was playing SMAS very briefly.

I was kinda hoping that all the purely underground sections in SMAS SMB2 would have their music replaced with the beta underground theme and I was hoping all the inside the pot sections of SMB2 would have played SMA SMB2's bonus room theme but I suppose SMAS is already a hard nut to crack.

Already mentioned on discord but yeah, there was not much flexibility I could do on that game iirc. Editing one theme would replace all instances of that one songs so while for example on w1-2 I could put the bonus theme inside the tubes, then the bonus theme would also play inside the door of that level. Music changes on the other games followed the theme/type of levels as well so I only made changes to the levels I thought were necessary. SMBLL has a lot more theme changes in its levels throughout than SMB1 so I'm sure more people may now enjoy that game. Same for SMB3, its more like sma4 (BONUS ROOMS!!! WOOH!) now with the inclusion of a Desert, Forest, and Snow theme.

Dude idk if you have any idea how massive help you were outside of your DMs! Like, your Red Yoshi code was adapted for ALL colored Yoshis. For reals man, thanks!!! 🙏 Especially on that last minute amk fix!!!

God fucking damn... I recall getting this glitch in Bowser's fight but that was due to using some HDMA channel that sa1 has edited now... I THINK it may be the magikoopa palette correction patch if it does happen to use any hdma channels... (or was it DMA? Hmmm). Thanks, I'll see what's up.

Keep up the amazing work!

Thanks! The Iggy graphics were done by me, glad ya loved his new look (well the hair was a correction patch not by me)! ANd yeah, I loved that bg, there's other beta bg scattered throughout some levels, hope you enjoy their inclusion!

Odd indeed, like wtf Nintendo... This task was a painstaking colossal one (time wise) but damn as it worth it! I've been told people love the new palettes. This was my first time doing custom palettes so I hope you guys happen to love em just like others have told me while testing!

Wow... this kinda blew me outta the water in what I was thinking. I really didn't think I'd get this kind of feedback and activity since I'm the guy people know for releasing monster OSTs with their sfx and extra stuff. I was worried releasing romhacks (and not even romhack "out there") would not get that much attentions since aside from my smwc activity, I'm sort of a nobody lol (probablly jinxing myself here and now activity will decline as C3 goes on haha). I can't thank you guys enough for the love you guys have shown my romhacks so far! Hopefully we can fix these bugs and polish it so it can be enjoyed as it was meant to be!

I tried it with both OpenEmu and BSNES (performance ver). The former has crashed the least while the latter broke as soon I visited the bonus room of Donut Plains 2. If I had to guess what's making the game crash, I dare say it might be the 2nd player/luigi graphics patch as it hasn't been updated for quite a while and I've seen many people reporting it kinda messes stuff sometimes.

Anyway, guess its about time I give the SMAS hack a shot.

EDIT: Holy crap hearing the mario maker & andvance 4 songs on SMAS is a delight. Add up the graphics hack that makes SMB3 Mario have gloves in SMAS (which is super easy to do given the graphics are uncompressed) and this would totally be the best SMAS hack I've ever seen (+ the bowser castle & peach graphics too I guess).

The fight's still function as long as you don't dismount him for the time being tho! Also yes, forgot to mention Yoshi can indeed enter boss rooms now and help fight!

Alright guys I've updated the hack! Fixed essentially every issues brought to me: p-ballon being a white square, eating roulette item crash, certain rooms crashing (was caused by the extended nmstl which if playing hard mode I recommend coming back to these rooms if you're curious what enemy was causing this). There were some bugs I didn't fix and that's bc I couldn't replicate them (red layer making levels unplayable such as Lemmy's castle and Wiggler segments screwing up). Outside of bug fixes, I added the blujay and lakitu overworld sprites for funsies.

It really changes the perspective as if it's almost a new game doesn't it?!?!?! I had a hella fun time reliving SMB1 when I first got this working! Hope you enjoy this hack just as much as the SMW one! Sadly smb2 doesn't offer anything new but hopefully I have a surprise for next C3 on this hehe.

This may sound cruel/selfish but I don't think I'll say just yet. Ask around in the discord if anyone's played it and hopefully they can answer. I think this is a good way for people to talk about the hack and trade secrets they've found etc. This totally has nothing to do with getting more people to view my thread at all. But really I think it'd be nice, kinda like back then how we'd talk to our friends at school trading game secrets!

EDIT: Fixed a small oversight on the intro message level in which you could scroll passed screen 1. Download and repatch again if you already did so before this edit, sorry. Also forgot to mention I added the roulette item making an sfx like in sma2!

Oh, this is really interesting! The feature list sounds really great and I really want to explore some of the new features added. Looking forward to giving this a try.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
Gave the SMW 30th anniversary hack another shot, and so far it seems to be far more stable on BSNES as it keeps crashing on OpenEmu in the same places I mentioned previously there.

I also think I know what's the thing crashing the game in Vanilla Dome 3 and the bonus room of Donut Plains 2: the swooper generator. Now, I have never used the sprite itself before so I dunno how exactly it works, but when it shows up on the hack, it makes every non-swooper sprite have some of their tiles go invisible. Hopefully changing the sprite memory settings should be able to fix that (that, and the bats create some weird garbage on the lower screen when they can't find a ceiling to cling into). EDIT: The issue might actually be sprite-memory related as the bats work fine on the secret room from Vanilla Dome 4.

The powerup roulette making sounds now is also a pretty neat effect (do you plan on releasing the patch it in the future, by any chance?), and so is Morton being able to barf fire like Ludwig, which isn't something you see often.

Lastly, even though the new secret exit for Donut Secret 1 threw me off the loop at first, it was also hidden very cleverly so kudos for the idea.

SMW 30th Anniversary Update #2

Bugs hopefully fixed are the swooper death bats, was caused by the extended nmstl patch. I'll have to look further into why this patch hates that sprite. As a side affect of the patch not present, wiggler are now more prone to glitching up when extended sprites are on the same screen as them (hammers). Please bear with me but I'll have to see what my options are. I still can't replicated the P-Ballon thing. Tested on BSNES and even LMSW :T. This time decided to make an IPS straight out of Lunar Magic bc constantly having to open float and make a bps was tiresome. That and I lowkey worry if some issues present were bc of this and the nature of how LM locks the hack? If all else fails, I'll unlock the hack but I rather keep it locked to prevent people rom seeing certain things and "cheating".

I literally just took it from HammerBro's Freeze Fix patch. That's the patch which broke the roulette in the first place which has also been taken out but I kept that part in. I'll have to see what the conflict was bc apparently there's a hijack there already.

Glad to hear! Love hearing stuff like this!

EDIT: All mentioned bugs seemed to have been fixed according to what's been told to me on discord. The only remaining bug that's certain is Wiggler's segments screwing up when extended sprites are on screen. Hopefully Vitor's new sa1 update can fix this but I'll wait on this to avoid potential new bugs. Let me know if you guys find any more issues!

So far the newest version has been pretty smooth so you could give it a shot right now if you want.

Also just got to a Reznor fight and man do I want whatever sorcery you did to make the bridge crumble without having Mode 7 turned on.
This looks super neat!
I gotta say when i started reading this thread i was like Eh, just another "Vanilla SMW but with extra patches"... but the more i kept reading, the more interesting it became, to the point i'm now thinking This is definitely a hack i'll have to try out later!

I haven't really gotten to play anything from this C3 yet, but i just wanted to come here to say how cool this looks, and how it seems you've put a ton of effort into improving the vanilla game to what can be seen as a Definite Edition. Some of the changes you've made to it definitely seem massive (like the palette changes and the hard mode!), and i look forward to see how this can make the SMW we know and love be a fresh experience once again!

I'll be back here after i give it a try ;)
