A Plumber For All Seasons (out now!)

I was thinking of a demo of this hack but since it is a MASSIVE hack with impressive hdma and graphics (Some even look releastic!)

You might do a demo, if you wish too.

Where's my lasaga, Jon?
That Snow effect is just pretty cool. I really like how it got a slightly extra touch through this wave-motion. With the right music in those Levels it could all lead to an interesting gameplay feeling.
I am looking forward to see more. Great Job there #smw{:TUP:}

I'd rather day elaborate. It would be massive if it had like 7 or 8 worlds.

WhiteYoshiEgg, you take a cake and you never fail to surprise me!
I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

Meanwhile, the visuals for 4-5 are coming along nicely. I originally planned for it to be a snow cave but it wound up being an ice cave instead:

To set it apart from the all-blue 4-3 I gave the background a green tint which seems to be working pretty well. I also spent the past day-and-a-half drawing Grinders (not pictured: they now have x-flipped graphics when going right) and ice blocks (thanks to people on Discord for valuable feedback on those).

(Based on that, feel free to guess what the gameplay gimmick will be!)

How long are we waiting for this? Can you do C3 in summer if you want to make a full version?
I love you! I'm a girl.

As it snows, the atmosphere is very unstable and lightning keeps hitting me. ㅠㅠ

I like the cartoon character of the girl the most.

This place will update photos every month.

There will be a video of world 4 at C3 next week. The hack will not be released this summer, but hopefully in a few months.

Long time no see, unfortunately!

I took a hiatus over the summer to take care several other things (VLDC12 and I forgot what else), intending to get back to it when the next semester started - and now that turned out to be a lot more stressful than I thought, so I can devote maybe one or two days a week to hacking. I'm getting back into the swing of things, though, which is a lot better than doing nothing!

This is 4-6, the winter ghost house. I finished the visuals back in summer, and the past few days - halfway between Halloween and Christmas - I've been working on the level's main gimmick, which is big Boo blocks that disguise as Christmas presents (instead of cement blocks).

I intend for this place to have a creepy feel - a run-down mansion with snowdrifts everywhere - with sprinkles of Christmas for the heck of it. The music for this level has already been made (thanks to Exodust!), and it actually helped inspire the visuals instead of the other way round.

Why Big Boos disguised as christmas presents?
Did you even copy + paste the boo block code?
If not, what's the difference between your "Winter Boos" and the Boo Blocks?

Not against your "Winter Boos", but i wanted something original in your ASM coding.

I thought it'd be fun.

Yep, they're the same as imamelia's 32x32 boo blocks, except with different graphics and more animation frames.

I have lots of original sprites already. Not everything has to be original, just make sense and be fun.

I disagree. The hack already has its fair share of original ASM. I do like the idea of boos disguised as Christmas presents and it'll be interesting to see where this goes. Hopefully there will be some clever gimmick involving icy slopes and the boo blocks inside the ghost house.

On another note, I'm intrigued to see where you take the castle theme next. I'd had an idea for an ice-themed castle in the past that involved pushing large blocks of ice into pools of lava, which melt slow enough for the player to use them as a means of crossing the lava. Maybe even have them melt as they move horizontally across flowing lava. I don't have the ASM experience to code it, but maybe you do and will find that idea useful. I very much doubt I'll get round to coding it.

You could kind of already do that without ASM. Just reskin floating skull platforms as ice blocks. It's not fancy, but it works. Oh, you want them to melt. Nevermind, I've got nothing for that, lol.

Also that premise looks nice, and I wonder what you'll end up doing with it.

Yeah, I was thinking of a 32x32 (or larger) block that can be pushed off a ledge and slowly sinks (melts) in the lava below.
I couldn’t help but smile while browsing this thread. Your graphic style is lovely. It’s got this depth, detail, and smoothness that work so well together, which for some reason reminds me of the best of DKC’s and Yoshi’s Island’s styles.

I really enjoy seasonal based media, and man, you sure do it justice here. The way the palettes, HDMA, and weather effects all compliment each other makes every level feel truly alive. Keep doing what you’re doing, WYE! This is hella inspiring and I cannot wait to play it!

Long time maybe, but it's always worth the wait! The weather effects are second to none.
Would a variety Boos with different colored presents be feasible with your palette?

Other Submissions of mine!

I'm not using a lot of different sprites in this level, so I definitely have some palette space left over! Though I think it might set up an expectation of different behavior ("huh, do the green presents do something else"), and take away from the mood and/or fun a bit. I'll know what to do if things end up looking really bland though, so thanks for that suggestion!

I haven't fully decided on a gimmick for the upcoming castle yet, although it's unlikely to involve lava since the fire-ice combo has become a bit of a cliché and everything else in this hack is more or less strictly separated by season.

It's your HUD a sprite? Because i see that you're taking advantage of the full Layer 3 and such and oh boy how this feels so good (from the graphical pointview). Your aesthetic is great and somewhat unique. I'm waiting for the next updates, sure.

A bit offtopic, but i think that we should have more public sprite statusbars hosted here so the people who loves visual can have more freedom to work it.

Keep up!

Yep, it is! I made it myself, but it's been publically available for quite a while now. #tb{:)}

This hack looks awesome. you sure have been working on it for a long time lol.
Every dream is but another reality, never forget…

My In-Progress Hack

Thanks, glad you all like it!

Here's what I spent more time on than I should have today considering my schedule: the ghost house interior, all run-down and snowed in. I'm not sure if I'm entirely happy with it, but it might just be the beta setup making things look to crowded - the final level will definitely have a more spacious feel.

Suggestions for decorations are welcome! I still have a few tiles to spare. (just don't ask for anything too complex please :<)
