R.E.M. - Carnival Of Sorts (Box Cars)

shoutout to mewithoutYou, imo the
best band of the 2000s

e: also shoutout to 14 Bis, corny ass song but a lot of fun
ask me if i give a f*ck...
(damn, sure as hell took a while for one of my nominations to appear in this set huh lmao; oh well, already knew at least one of them was going to appear at some point anyway so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

Zhea Erose - Prayer Room (yeah, I'd say this is more in-tune with what I like about microtonal music lmao; very nice, haunting song haha)

14 Bis - Linda Juventude (my nomination. if you didn't know, I actually intended this as being a bit of a homage to my mother since I knew she liked this band a lot, and while I don't think this is technically her favorite since there was another song that she liked to listen to more, I really liked this one myself which is why I nominated it haha; love the synths, drums, and everything else about this song in general, really tickles my fancy when it comes to the stuff I like about rock music :P)

mewithoutYou - Bear's Vision of St. Agnes (would've nominated this one if I didn't have my own nomination here, but I like this one a lot; once again nice and haunting, just the way I like it lmao)

R.E.M. - Carnival Of Sorts (Box Cars) (same with this, and honestly it's probably my favorite when it comes to straight up rock music in this round, but I think even with that I don't think I'd nominate it over anything else lmao; still really solid stuff tho)

Billy Joel - Vienna (this one is also cool, but I don't think that it's too remarkable all things considered)

Wowkie Zhang - Sunshine Rainbow White Pony (oh god this song LOL, I was kind of scared since it's a pretty infamous one for something that's very bad and not cool, but I actually ended up singing the infamous part out loud while dying of laughter; does that make me racist? I dunno man #wario{<_>})

Dave Wave - Everybody Wants To Be A Cat (Electro Swing Remix) (honestly, other than the part near the end, I didn't like this too much; was expecting a lot more because of it being electro swing too, since I normally tend to dig the style, but not here sadly :V)

DAOKO - 高い壁には幾千のドア (yeah, nah, didn't like this too much; sorry!)
Layout by Mathos
Billy Joel - Vienna - neat, yes
mewithoutYou - Bear's Vision of St. Agnes - interesting

---

R.E.M. - Carnival Of Sorts (Box Cars) - pretty good, though a bit generic
Wowkie Zhang - Sunshine Rainbow White Pony - uhhhhhhh pretty nice i guess strangely enough
14 Bis - Linda Juventude - mildly nice
Dave Wave - Everybody Wants To Be A Cat (Electro Swing Remix) - i like electro swing and this song, but im not sure about this take on it LOL. feels all over the place.
DAOKO - 高い壁には幾千のドア - repetitive at the beginning, liked how it ended up
Zhea Erose - Prayer Room - it's ok

---

there's like two or three common themes in this set and then there's sunshine rainbow white pony
Zhea Erose - Prayer Room
mewithoutYou - Bear's Vision of St. Agnes

Wow. Very introspective songs for nominations. They're vibing pretty good...

Honorary mention goes to Dave Wave; but I felt he could have to chosen to keep the remix shorter and more organized, jumping from the quiet to the busy more than one time wasn't that clever imo.
mewithoutYou - Bear's Vision of St. Agnes - I haven't heard this band before but this title has all the qualities of a band's "magnum opus" - the musicianship and atmosphere is breath-taking. I can get past the "emo Kermit" sound of the vocals because he more than makes up for it with melody as the song progresses. The middle where it quiets to a whisper makes everything to follow feel like an emotional tidal wave. I could drown in that guitar at 3:08. (e. wasted no time getting this song. Thank you to whoever nominated this)

Billy Joel - Vienna - I was originally going to nominate My Life. I can't listen to Billy Joel and not feel good, whether it's cheery or relaxed music. This is my first exposure to this song, and it's a perfect song for relaxing in the evening, just letting the day roll off your shoulders.

/////////// aaaaarrrgh doopy you're killing me ///////////

Zhea Erose - Prayer Room - Best experienced with good earbuds because the sonic depth to this is like an ocean, like Burial, or Swarms. Beautiful vocals. Ethereal.

DAOKO - 高い壁には幾千のドア (Thousands of doors on a high wall) - I don't know why but I can't hear this and not think she's like the Japanese equivalent of Falco with most of the vocals. I do dig the bass and percussion loop - the bass in particular reminds me of The Cure's Fascination Street.

Wowkie Zhang - Sunshine Rainbow White Pony - Extremely fun and poppy, feel-good stuff. Is this a Rainbow Dash tribute? @Ultima: You're fine, but imagine if "the" became cursed.

14 Bis - Linda Juventude - Took me a bit to realize I actually don't know what's being said at all, but regardless, I always liked the new-wave and post-punk sound so it feels warmly familiar despite never having heard this band before. This is what I call work music or surf music.

R.E.M. - Carnival of Sorts (Boxcars) - Like the above, work music for me. Nothing I can get emotionally invested in, but it helps me concentrate. That intro is creepy to me though.

Dave Wave - Everybody Wants to Be a Cat (Electro Swing Remix) - The original is meme-tier, cheesy and enjoyable as hell. I do wish this remix were a little more thorough since the style shift is abrupt. Remastering the audio ripped from the movie would have also been good. Doesn't quite slap as hard as I was hoping, but shout out anyways for best Disney song.

Just look above you...
If it's something that can be stopped, then just try to stop it!
DAOKO - 高い壁には幾千のドア
Wowkie Zhang - Sunshine Rainbow White Pony

I didn't know that DAOKO song beforehand, ended up being unexpectedly good, it's probably going to my music collection.

mewithoutYou - Bear's Vision of St. Agnes: Damn, this is great. Not 100% sure about the singing but this is still awesome.
14 Bis - Linda Juventude: Eu não conhecia essa música mas é como se ela fosse nostálgica mesmo assim? Deve ser o estilo (ou então já ouvi em algum lugar e não lembro). Legalzinha ela, e eu aprecio a nomeação brasileira #smw{:TUP:}

Billy Joel - Vienna: Love the vibe. Feels so good to listen to.
Dave Wave - Everybody Wants To Be A Cat (Electro Swing Remix):
Wowkie Zhang - Sunshine Rainbow White Pony: It's neat. Very well produced.
R.E.M. - Carnival Of Sorts (Box Cars): Love the vibe, it's just a bit repetitive.
DAOKO - 高い壁には幾千のドア: The beat is pretty good, but I really don't like most of the vocals (in how they go over the song, I can't understand them). They get better by the end.
Zhea Erose - Prayer Room: At first I wasn't sure how to feel about the clash between the chill ambience sounds/vocal and the super unsettling piano, but it's actually kinda cool.

You can tell this is a hard round when you haven't entirely disliked any of the songs.
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
We're on Set G, which means this is the 7th set in numerical terms. How lucky!

1. Zhea Erose - Prayer Room
2. Billy Joel - Vienna
What is a Lunar Magic, and can I eat it?

5) 14 Bis - Linda Juventude
6) mewithoutYou - Bear's Vision of St. Agnes
7) Dave Wave - Everybody Wants To Be A Cat (Electro Swing Remix)
8) Wowkie Zhang - Sunshine Rainbow White Pony
1. 14 Bis - Linda Juventude: O nome da música já diz tudo #smw{<3} Não pensei que haveria uma nomeação brasileira aqui.
2. Billy Joel - Vienna: Pretty nice.

3. mewithoutYou - Bear's Vision of St. Agnes: Not sure about the vocals, but man, this is good.
4. Dave Wave - Everybody Wants To Be A Cat (Electro Swing Remix): I sure want to be a cat #smw{B)}
5. R.E.M. - Carnival of Sorts (Boxcars): This one is solid, though. Not something I'd listen to everyday, but at least it's not unsettling.
6. Zhea Erose - Prayer Room: Usually I don't like too calm and ambient songs, but this one is an exception.
7. DAOKO - 高い壁には幾千のドア: Neat little track.
8. Wowkie Zhang - Sunshine Rainbow White Pony: Of all the (K-Pop?) songs I've listened to, this one is my least favorite simply due to the repetitiveness.
Windowless ride, feeling alive
Are you alive or just breathing?
Dave Wave - Everybody Wants To Be A Cat (Electro Swing Remix)
14 Bis - Linda Juventude
DAOKO - 高い壁には幾千のドア

This is one of my favorite DAOKO songs. Actually this whole album is amazing and I'll tell you to listen to the whole thing personally.

R.E.M. - Carnival Of Sorts (Box Cars)

I think I would actually go back and listen to this one even after the tourney. Pretty close between This, Bear's Vision of St. Agnes, and Linda Juventude, I liked alot of the songs this time.

Taking advantage of the fact that I never get to talk about mewithoutYou to say that they're the kind of band that has a new opus on every album they released. If you're interested in getting into them, a few recs are January 1979, In A Sweater Poorly Knit, and Julia (or, 'Holy to the LORD' on the Bells of Horses).
(They're also a post-hardcore band, so if you go back to listen to more of their stuff, be warned, there's a lot more screaming than you might expect, though it'll explain why emo kermit was given vocal duties!)

ask me if i give a f*ck...
1. Aphex Twin - Vordhosbn: I really enjoyed this song aside from a few overly loud parts. It was made in 2001 according to the comments, which is just crazy. It's also one of the few instrumentals I've seen where the music video actually adds to it; I'll probably listen to this next time I ride Metro-North : P
2. Joe Hisaishi - Merry-Go-Round of Life: I liked this song a lot more than I thought I would after hearing the beginning. The song has a really good sense of progression.
---------------
3. Mitchie M - 短気呑気男子: Not terrible, but not great either.
4. Toots & The Maytals - Funky Kingston: Wasn't expecting to hear a reggae song in this tourney...interesting. This song's not bad, but I've never been super into reggae.
5. Squarepusher - Papalon: I enjoyed certain parts of the song, but as a whole it didn't do much for me.
6. Voyage - Beyond: I kinda liked the parts where the beat came in and the very end was cool, but overall this just sounds like generic vlogger music.
7. Wolf Alice - Don't Delete the Kisses: This might be the most annoying song in the tourney so far. Alright music but I absolutely could not stand the vocals. It's stuck in my head for all the wrong reasons...I enjoyed the music video, at least.
8. SOPHIE - Ponyboy: Sincere apologies to Wolf Alice; THIS is the most annoying song in the tourney so far, and honestly one of the worst songs I've ever heard in general. The part where the organ or whatever it is comes in is kinda cool, but otherwise I don't have anything good to say about this. It's pretty awful.
Check out my WIP romhack!
Squarepusher - Papalon - this is just so nice to listen to, good 90s feel
Aphex Twin - Vordhosbn - wow I was actually considering nominating this too, good breakbeat

---

Joe Hisaishi - Merry-Go-Round of Life - lol I wasn't expecting this in the tourney, this is nice.
Mitchie M - 短気呑気男子 - not sure about the vocals but i like this beat
Toots & The Maytals - Funky Kingston - pretty nice i suppose. i like the solo near the end
Voyage - Beyond - chill edm is not my taste but it's ok
Wolf Alice - Don't Delete the Kisses - not for me but it's ok. why are you whispering at me
SOPHIE - Ponyboy - ?????? i guess i like the carnival music midway through

---

battle of extreme tastes
Set H on a Monday? Garfield disapproves.

1. Toots & The Maytals - Funky Kingston
2. Mitchie M - 短気呑気男子
What is a Lunar Magic, and can I eat it?
there were actually a lot of great songs to choose from

- Joe Hisaishi - Merry-Go-Round of Life: this song takes me places
- Toots & The Maytals - Funky Kingston: this is some great reggae

- Aphex Twin - Vordhosbn: smooth af
- Squarepusher - Papalon: this is one of these songs i definitely can vibe to when i'm in the mood for it, it's very tasty
- Mitchie M - 短気呑気男子: not big fan of >w< kawaii anime vocals in general, but the instrumental absolutely slaps
- Voyage - Beyond: much like papalon, definitely can vibe to music like this when i'm in a vibing mood, but it's less interesting as a whole
- Wolf Alice - Don't Delete the Kisses: v chill and laid back, i dig it but i like the vocals even less than in the mitchie m song.
- SOPHIE - Ponyboy: why the fuck are they talking about ponies when the song keeps playing an elephant sound

honestly the only one i didn't like in any way was elephantboy. everything else had their own merit and i genuinely enjoyed it in some way
