SMB2’s ending

So I have rebeaten SMB2 just now. I have beaten the one recently put on Switch Online, and there was something that always bothered me... what’s with Wart’s face on the SMAS version of SMB2? I can’t think of anything else on Wart’s face. Can you help me out? It’s just very weird to see blood on an official Mario game. Also keep in mind this also applies for SMA, which makes it worse because it’s 2001 and for a modern game, THEY COULD NEVER GET AWAY WITH THAT!!! So, what do you think there is on Wart’s face?

At first, I wanted to say his face was probably blushing, feeling flustered from having been beaten so badly, but no, that definitely looks like blood under the eyes when he's being crowd-surfed out by the fairies. I don't know if it was meant as the former. The shape of the red doesn't give it much ambiguity in my eyes either. Blush should be more widespread and not wavy like a spill.

Still, it didn't stop Ocarina of Time from getting an E rating though Ganondorf originally bled realistically instead of the Nickelodeon Gak in N64 v1.2 and later ports. I don't think it's so much they can't use blood as they would prefer not to since some of the target audience or their parents/legal guardians might find it disturbing or inappropriate. I am guessing it was unintended or overlooked in this case.

Just look above you...
If it's something that can be stopped, then just try to stop it!
Looking at the NES sprite vs the SNES sprite I don't think it's suppose to be blood but rather blushing or weird shadowing since it's not their on the NES version but there are sark lines under his eyes. Who knows though they did something with him after the crowd surf anyway which hints at something very harmful.
I did freak out when I beat the SMAS version on an emulator... Blood is kinda weird to see in a kid-friendly game. Especially a Mario game
It probably isn't blood. Japanese people often draw characters who are dizzy with twirly eyes and red cheeks, so that's probably what it is. If you think about it, it wouldn't really make much sense as blood. Physics still apply to blood, so if that's what it was, it would have to be dripping down his cheeks to the floor. However, since it's only on his cheeks/beneath his eyes, it's definitely not a fluid and is thus way more likely to just be his cheeks turning red.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
I actually thought it was blood but they could of atleast put in some green to make it look more obvious that its a more of a blush then blood but looking at it again it looks more like wart had the skin around his eyes peeled off plus theres even a darker color around the red making it look like he really did have his skin peeled off AAAAAHHHHH #wario{O_O}

But even then i kinda did the same with egg boi from marios normal adventure which i did remove since ive been fixing his gfx and tweaking it
This is my non existent layout I plan on adding one soon.. or never

honestly this? it's really just really bad shading which isn't really exclusive to that wart sprite in all stars really, say what you will about the usage of color, all stars has a fuckton of weird ass shading that just messes with the originally simple spritework. i do like the fg and bg work (i'm pro YI and AS fusions in romhacks) but Man

i do hope mario finally totes the gun he was intended to have since smb1 to no scope some fuckers and make pools of blood and gore rain all over the mushroom kingdom in super mario odyssey 2: back 2 tha hood

Yeah I honestly think that the fuckton of weird shading was probably done because and don't quote me on this!
A:That's how they would of looked if the NES could display more than 3 color for each sprite/tile. Unlike the SNES which can display 15 color for each sprite. (BG tiles vary tremendously.)
B:It's done to make use of the immense color variation the SNES has as listed above.
But I honestly don't know why but I honestly love the sprites of SMB1 all-stars much more than the original. But yeah the NES ones are still nice and have sort of a crude and rough charm to it. But some of the SNES ones look cuter, for example the Koopas look adorable. Exept the lava tiles! I honestly do not like those at all! Also peach looks like the way she does in SMB2 and I hate THOSE sprites from SMB2 all-stara even MORE!!!! Just seeing them CONSTANTLY and I mean CONSTANTLY used in newgrounds animations back in the day! Just makes me absolutely loathe those crappy wretched and abhorrently hideous sprites! I would have much preferred they make the sprites of peach look like the one from SMB1(NES) or at least SMW or... Something? But that's all I had to say...
