Can someone please explain how to merge tiles in YY-CHR

I have a basic understanding of how to use YY-CHR. I know how to draw tiles and how to copy and paste tiles in order to replace them but I do not understand how to merge them and would like to use a couple of merged tiles in my VLDC 12 level. If someone could please explain to me how to do this or give me a visual example it would be greatly appreciated.

There's not a "merging" functionality as far as I know, so merging really entails copying the pixels of one tile (8x8) onto another manually. As per the VLDC rules, everything but the transparency from the tile that goes above must be copied over the one that goes below.

You are also allowed to recolor, that is, you can swap one color for another in each of the two individual tiles. YY-CHR has a functionality for that, in 0.99 it is accessible by CTRL+R or by a colorful button with two palette rows and an arrow pointing down between them.
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?

Is there a way to copy and paste the 8x8 tile without the transparency or do I need to recolor the transparent part manually. Or would it be allowed in VLDC to redraw one tile onto the other pixel-by-pixel as long as its a complete copy of the original.

What I'm trying to do is take the skulls from the lava level and merge them with the tiles with the berries on them.

Yeah, that's the idea, since there's no automatic way to do it in YY-CHR.

Yes redrawing the graphics is acceptable and kind of how you have to do it since like Koopster said there's no actual merge feature this includes copying excluding transparency since in yy-chr transparency is still a color and there's no alpha channel like you're probably used to in other programs like paint.net, GIMP and Photoshop.
Awesome! I think I understand now what to do. I want to thank both of you for your help. I have been trying to figure this out for quite some time now so I really appreciate your help.
