Ninja Boy Presents a remake of a game in the guise of a rom hack!

Super Mario WorldVideo/TrailerScreenshots

Yo listen up here's a story about a little hack who was built in a blue world and all day and all night and everything was blue...

Ok so here's the story last C3 I came in talking about making a new hack call 'Not' Super 'Mario' World and I realized after I had started working on it a bit that I was a bit over my head since everything had really changed since the last time I hacked SMW. So where does that bring me? That brings me to an old, like super old, talking I made this thing back in 2011 old hack.

The name of this game is:

Walls!
^BTW that's a link^

Now a bit of background on Walls. This was an attempt to make sort of a puzzle/standard platformer game where I personally only see the first level as any good. The main idea is you had a "puzzle" level which really wasn't very puzzly, then a switch palace where you got to choose which switch you hit and finally a platformer level that changed depending on the switch you hit.

Now like I said the first level is pretty decent even if it's not all that hard but the next couple levels are just bland and bad IMO, at least looking back on them now.

So I decided that instead of focusing on 'N'S'M'W and not really knowing how to proceed with it I'd take time to relearn hacking and start over with Walls and make a much better version that will expand on what's already there.

So let's look at a bit of what Walls was.

"Wait Mr.Ninja" You scream angrily, "That is not bad!"
Oh no that's not but check out this one!

"OH NO!" You proclaim, covering your mouth trying to hold in the vomit.
I know dear reader, I know.
This was made well before a lot of advancements of SMW and it was made when a lot of things were buggy and didn't function quite right. The last levels was an attempt to create a level that would be a different experience depending on the switch and really it fell short, very short, like super major short. I hate it and I am determined to remake it.

Here's a quick example of the first level of Walls (2011) vs Walls (2020)

You can see a different aesthetic going all the way to the BG and not just a vanillay take on a FG. You also don't see it cause it's not a gif but the reset pipe animates, below is the animation for the pipe (not used correctly I was experimenting) and has a bonus some yoshi blocks that change he acts like while on and off Yoshi.

Now if you made it this far and didn't realize it the big WALLS! text up above is a link to download that awful version. I will say there is 1 change I made to it vs the original 2011 version which is I removed a block, a single block, a block which broke the entire level because it gave you a cape which I had forgotten about and used for testing things.

It's this block which you will see is missing from the above screenshot of the first level.

That is all but here's another bonus cause I'm also gonna try and get HDMA going on.

Have fun, if anyone records any game play feel free to throw it in my direction any and all criticisms welcome as long as it's constructive.
Ok I gotta say that I actually like it lol, the aesthetics are really good too
Just some Ys fan lol
That Switch block maze has me goin'...
Hope the remake turns out well
Disappointed you haven't made a sequel to Mario Vs Coronavirus.

This will have to do I guess #tb{:(}
I remember watching a video you posted of this hack ages ago and loved your aesthetic choices. Its great to see you revisit it!

Sequel? Mario vs Coronavirus isn't done, I have other plans for that.

Yeah when I try I'm fairly good at aesthetics and design.

hopefully pretty well I think I'll be either splitting the level up into better subsections or just expand the level so it's longer with better puzzle sections.
All the people commenting, including me: Interesting.

I want to see further of this remaster.

Have a frost day~
I love seeing "Old-New" comparisons when it comes to peoples levels they have made.
The Examination Shenanigans look pretty impressive and I can think of a whole lot of level setups you can make with them.

(also that new updated foreground is pretty YI looking and Thicc)
I love the idea of remaking stuff like this. Everyone always has old ideas that are worth revisiting, even if things need to be adjusted here and there.
looks cool!

Nothing else to say. Just walls and walls and walls and walls and walls and walls and walls and walls and walls and walls and walls and walls and more walls and walls and walls and walls...

Nice

I gave this a try, but I didn't get too far, only cleared the main level, with no switches.

It was fine, most of the time, although you should watch out for blind jumps, because I fell to my death a lot from now knowing where to land.
