on the faq section it says to click here to get lunar magic and someone leht a comment there saying something along the lines of thanks for putting it on crossover and that it worked for there chromebook
No idea what crossover is but from what I understand people need to request programs to be put on there, we are not in charge of that here and if you choose to get a copy from another source you run the risk of the other source tampering with the program (I'm not saying that they do) but I don't think you'll get much help here for it crossover.
Since SMW is now fully disassembled, this basically means we managed to replicate the game without using ANY of Nintendo's original source code.

If a hack was made with these new things and removes all of Nintendo's:

1. Levels
2. Graphics
3. Music (and samples)?
4. Hacked from the disassembly instead of a Nintendo SMW ROM

Does this mean that it's a fully "original game" that's free to redistribute as a ROM?
If you removed all of Nintendos code including graphics and everything else, yes itd be an original game however a disassembled rom doesn't mean it's not Nintendos code. Removing all of Nintendos code would leave you with nothing.
For it to be "completely free" to distribute as a ROM, you'd basically have to re-code the entire game from scratch. That's probably much more effort than it's worth, in my opinion - creating a patch is much easier by comparison.

Doesn't this mean we know how to replicate it though? So if someone just recoded the SMW ROM using the disassembly as a reference, it would be legal. No Nintendo documents or source code were used in making the disassembly, were they?

Not only is reverse engineering legal in the United States, but the Super Mario World manual doesn't say that reverse engineering the game is prohibited - just that Mario and co. are trademarked/copyrighted.
Sure you could use it as reference but that's it, you'd need to recode the entire game from scratch. Even if you say wrote SMW in C++ that could be compiled into a rom that was identical to SMW that rom would still infringe the copyright of Nintendo.

But it wouldn't be identical due to having different graphics, levels, etc.
If the core of the code is the same ie; same graphics routines, same physics routines, same spawning routines. Even if you remove the graphics and levels the core code is still Nintendo's.

I don't think you understand what a disassembly is and how copyright works.

So I can't make any SMW hack without using Nintendo's copyright? And there's no way to make them without forcing people to download a debatably-legal ROM or buy a ROM ripper for their own cart?
Correct, but if you're worried about the legality of obtaining a rom it's really a giant gray area depending on where you live.
Hello! im isaac and i started smw hacking with lunar magic a while ago. I learned how to add custom sprites with PIXI a few weeks ago and everything has been going fine until one day i added some more sprites with PIXI and it said everthing was inserted just fine. but when i opened my rom it would not load. i would greatly appreciate any help given to me. I am only 12 so im kinda dumb so if i am being to dumb and you give up on helping me, i get it.

Nah, you're fine, don't worry. Welcome to the site! #tb{:)}

To figure out what's wrong it'd help to know what you've been doing, and what sprites you're trying to insert. If it's one particular sprite that crashed your ROM, what was it, and does it work again without it?

The bug K3fka was having in that other thread was caused by list.txt only having entries under "EXTENDED". It's probably not common, and it might have been fixes in a new version of PIXI, so make sure you're using the latest one.

Hello ! #smw{:peace:}

First of all, I'm fairly new to Lunar Magic : I started using it a month ago. So I hope the answer to my question isn't THAT obvious #smw{x_x}

I made a level with some moles in it ( ones that will explodes from their hiding place )
When you are close from a mole it starts digging the ground and 1 and a half seconds later it jumps out.

Level works fine when I load it from Yoshi's Island submap.
But when I try to load it from special world submap it doesn't work as planned : moles come out very fast from the ground ( they start digging as usual but they jump out WAY faster (less than a second later). That messes up timings in the level...

It only does this with moles, other things in the level works fine...
What am I missing ? I mean the level is the same, the only difference is that I load it from the Special World submap instead of Yoshi's Island submap.

Thank you for reading #smw{:TUP:}

PS1 : same problem when I load the level from the main overworld map... it seems to only work when I load it from Yoshi's Island (whatever location inside this submap)
The reason why the monty moles come out faster is that they are actually set in smw by default to dig much faster in different submaps you can change that by using smw customizer you can get it in smwc's tool section
This is my non existent layout I plan on adding one soon.. or never

Thank you codfish1002 ! #smw{:peace:}

I'm gonna check it !
I inserted layer 3 efgfx, and it works fine but it scrolls up with the player. Can i prevent it from doing this? Thanks!!
If I wanted to add a patch Such as infinite lives or instant retry to an existing hack (Like Kaizo 1), how would I go about doing that?

Thanks

You can prevent it from scrolling by clicking the button with the fish and changing vertical scroll and horizontal scroll to constant
