This is the Event Calendar for 2020. Dates and Contests in italics are tentative, and may have their dates moved as necessary.
This is not a complete calendar, and will be added to as the year goes on and more contests have their details finalized. Certain events, like 24hoSMWs and 72hoSPCs, may be planned and hosted without being added to the calendar ahead of time.

Feel free to discuss events and suggest new ones in this thread. If you have event suggestions for events, or questions, comments or complaints about about tentative dates, feel free to either post them in this thread or send a PM to FPzero, or any other Public Relations staff member.
This calendar may look a little barebones right now, but I wanted to put it out because it's high time we do so. We took a lot of feedback from the contest poll thread into account when making it, which is why I have that short list of likely contests at the bottom, even if we aren't yet sure where we'll slot them in. I wanted to assure everyone that we're listening. Let me go into a little more detail about this year:
KLDC, CLDC, and VLDC will be the big three level design contests this year. Each is planned to run with a shorter submission period than previous years, with the hopes that by shortening submission periods, we can host more smaller contests with less submission overlap.
OLDC was a popular request, but it is definitely a more niche contest than our other large ones. We're considering running it with a shorter submission period of 2-4 weeks, due to the relative simplicity of the contest's conceit compared to VLDC.
As much as I like BLDC's concept and am looking forward to an eventual BLDC2, feedback made it clear that while it was an interesting contest, it should not replace VLDC and could probably use a year off before showing up again.
Internally, we had discussed running a new Automatic Level Design Contest, thinking that it had been a long while since the last one. After polling the userbase however, it appears there is relatively little interest in a new iteration of the contest. As such, it is not currently planned.
There's also some questions and suggestions about making more of our large contests occur annually. We will need time to discuss this possibility. The main point of discussion relates to how much time we would have to spend each year on specific annual contests, versus how much time we'll have left over for smaller ones. We'll keep you informed.
Thanks for all the feedback. I hope you're all looking forward to 2020 on SMW Central!
I want CLDC to have its own subforum just like VLDC7-11 and BLDC had. I think that'd encourage more people to participate. They'd be able to make threads solely for their own levels to show off their progress which would be better than spoiling it in discussion. Questions asked by people would also get many more answers and it'd help hosts/judges improve CLDC in the future. And the last, but not the least, so many people have agreed to make it an annual format.
Is there a good chance CLDC will have its own subforum?

I'm so glad that the CLDC is happening next April...considering that my birthday is close to the time period that CLDC will begin, it makes me wonder what date in April the contest will begin on?
I'm also hoping there'll be a subforum made for CLDC once it begins...as you can probably guess, I am excited to get another chance to enter a CLDC...hopefully this time I won't have to pull out of it because of another case of "technical difficulties", like what happened to me at the 2010 CLDC.
While I'm thinking of it, have any levels in a previous CLDC ended with a SMB1 flagpole or SMB3 goal? Since I plan to use the former in my upcoming hack, I'm crossing my fingers there is nothing wrong with using a custom type of goal in a CLDC level.

Made my post clearer.
Also, not only am I the first one besides the OP to post in an event calendar for the second time, but it's also Ladida's second time making a post right after my first one in the calendars.
yep, this one's going into the smwc cringe compilation
@kot as long as the level can be entered from the overworld and exits to the overworld, it doesnt matter what it uses or what it consists of

I would understand if this one doesn't actually make it as we all know it's a quite niche one despite the big amount of votes it got. Much love if it happens though. It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
For the undecided Autumn contest we should have an automatic level contest again, it will have been five years since the last one at that point and I think it would be a very fun contest to have.
As I mentioned in the second post, there was very little interest in a new Automatic Level Design Contest, so there are no plans to host one at this time.
