Yes. I don't remember where but carol gave permission for people to use their resources.
Ok good
Didn't want to get in trouble
Anyway, yes if you could please send those to me if you decide to do it. They should be in something called bowser_castle or bcastle or something.

Sent an email to carol some hours back.

Basically I asked if the development being suspended and lack of time meant the hack isn't being worked on further, to quell people's worries of the hack ending development here.
Also volunteered to test their hack and give feedback if they need it (I wouldn't release the demos).

Expecting a reply in like a few months considering their track record.

Honestly I think them saying how they're married and what not kind of spells it out. By saying it's "Suspended" they're saying it's cancelled. At least I think so. Regardless continuing to bother them about such an old project they've more than likely completely moved on from certainly wont help.

Tbh I'm less interested in the bosses (except Nova/Marx) and more interested in that one section of the hack I uncovered where both layer 3 and layer 4 are in use.

Just to note: Before I saw LX5's video (and realised that the foreground alone has too many colours to be 2bpp), I thought that too until I realised what trick has been used: HDMA. The key point is that the yellow ropes spans whole scanlines so you can easily add a parallax scroll in which parts of the background not only scrolls horizontally at a different rate but also vertically (not sure the exact trick, though as the ropes may or may not be part of the same tilemap as the gears but given how the background repeats, probably on the same tilemap).
Seriously, HDMA really is SNES magic.

Edit: I forgot that there is a third layer on the layer 2 background. Now, that is something I can't answer.
Where did Romi even release his demos?

carol's actually really nice and has an oddly large amount of patience. I apologized for being obsessive last year and in the email where they told me they were married they just said "it wasn't my fault" (it kinda was).

The one time their patience reached a limit was when Roberto made pointless threads over them just logging on to SMWC, and even then they apologized for being rude (which they shouldn't have apologized for tbh).

Here's my email if you want to make sure:

Lastly, "At least I think so", this is why I sent the email. Just to make sure. Also to thank them for inspiring me to get into programming.

It's about high time I distribute all the Japanese ports that have existed long ago to the public (thanks to Daizo for sending them to me a year back). It's not fair that only a few people have access to them while others have to wait until the right time to privately ask for them. Why must it be that hard to get them?

They're pretty old anyway (yet good for its time) and I'm sure the authors of these ports are most likely inactive (so we can't get their permission), but regardless, they've distributed them somewhere in the first place long ago anyway, so I might as well.

Please note that nearly all of these ports are not compatible with AMK and must be manually converted.

https://www.smwcentral.net/?p=viewthread&t=87973

The above tutorial should help you with that.

Packs from BlackYoshi's page:

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

Two giant packs of which I'm not sure of the source:

Version 1

Version 2

Stay tuned! There's more where that came from, but for now, this should be enough. I'll edit this post as I add more packs.
My Mode 0 guide.

My Discord server. It has a lot of archived ASM stuff, so check that out!

The giant packs are by Samantha/Decoy. She was all hopped up on them JP hacking fumes and started a project to convert most ports to AMK. I think she stopped because it was just too much of a hassle and some like Maybe I'm A Lion by Dominator would require extra effort. I'll be down with keeping some of these for personal use and conversion, stockpiling ports isn't too bad an idea.

I wish there was a torrent for mass dling the ASM on SMWC so I could hoard it to study later like some evil dragon lul

I'd upload the Japanese ASM I have on my harddrive for archival and study purposes but I don't want to step on anyone's toes. I have the VIP5 and VIP6 baseroms, Brutal Mario's old ASM (data.zip), the updated Julius and Tanasinn, statusbar_sprite, STARSW, the Bokoboko and Aramaki sprites, tan-cos' ASM from the wiki, Akaginite's older sprites and SMWC work (some used in Wagokoro's SUPER) and Yuga's work (from SMW YEAH!). I still haven't gone through the entirety of SMWC's ASM sections, all the C3s (what is still downloadable there, that is) or Romi's Spritetool so stuff like Romi's sprites aren't in it. Sorry. ^^

I really shouldn't fucking add more onto my plate but I'm thinking of making Japanese tutorials for the rare JP hacker that is still out there. I've asked abc_ore if he feels this is a good idea since y'know, he is JP and can speak as a part of the community and he seemed to respond positively. I'd have no problem with putting them on SM4Wiki_Mix and SMWC, so maybe expect something on here.

I'm gonna ask Eye and the JP hackers for feedback and proofreading.

This is something I promised 5ch folk some years back and I feel bad I never went through with it :c

If it's not gonna be too difficult for you then go for it, though you do have a tendency to try and do everything which isn't always the best.

Indeed, rest in peace. Although you can still access those links via the wayback machine, someone should probably update the first post.

I did upload it to google docs so people like abc_ore could help.
Please don't vandalize.

Heads up, large amounts of bad Japanese.
I already got someone correcting my bad JP so ^^

Thanks for worrying about me tho.

It's cute to see effort on the matter, though yourself (lion) said the jap smwh community was mostly dead? Not mean to be a killjoy but you and me know that it's the reality.

I guess you can still give a try anyway, it's always unknown when something you do can be helpful to others. Jap smw hackers doesn't shine as much as in the past decade but I'm sure there are hidden gems that can be polished.

I feel like 2ch's scene is dead, but there are still a few people posting on the SMW hacking wiki. If I could help them using the current tools, I'd be glad. Even if it's only 2 people.

I don't care about impressive hacks, I just want accessibility to all.

Besides, abc_ore, naari and SEAWAR seemed open to it and someone is writing a tutorial for PIXI in sm4wiki_mix.
HackPortsASM"Uploader"

Stens has more or less completed Boom Mario and has uploaded a new video to Nicovideo. ウォーミング アップ (Warming Up) features a custom Fishin' Boo that evolves in threat level as the stage progresses, whilst fake platforms get in the way of the player. The last stage is to be recorded, I assume with it would come the upload of the final version.

SEAWAR has also updated Imitation Mario/Seawar Mario World and uploaded a new video as well. 沈む難破船 (Sinking Shipwreck) features the partner mechanic from DKC2 with the throwing ability, and a tide that rises the further you get in the level with the ever looming threat of a Boss Bass following Mario and Luigi (a la Slime Climb, the level its named after). It also features the Metal Mario powerup for a secret exit. ラトリーに頼るな (Don't Rely on Rattly!), meanwhile, is a difficult stage featuring the Spring Mario powerup from Galaxy. Download link here, choose 2.20. Don't reupload to the site without SEAWAR's permission, please.

I have tested SEAWAR's hack (only a few early levels), and I must say it's full of crazy and extravagant ideas. It makes me think there is still a hope for the jap smw hacking.

The car driving level particularly made me laugh a lot, I feel we lack hacks with these kind of weird but funny ideas.

Hello~ I'm Japanese beginner hacker.
I'm finding test players of my hack.
This hack uses English, but I am not sure about my English Skills.
I'm honest with this hack might be never completed.
(It takes quite a lot of time to make a level and I
usually have a full-time job work too.)

Nevertheless,I'm glad to find Japanese hacks discussion thread.
I'm so proud of Japanese SMW Hackers.
I want to do my best to make my hack.
Look forward to it.
