Tob's Tubular Tableau | Episode #2: Luigi Linguini

GraphicsMusicSuper Mario WorldVideo/Trailer

C3? Aw man! So we back on the site, looking at what crazy resources I got for you this time.
Just like last C3's Tubular Tableau I got a small collection of stuff to show off. This time I got for you all 1 video of a random level, 1 tileset and 1 port with a sampled and unsampled version!

Random Level: Spinblocks in the Sky!

I've had this rom set up for almost a year now and just recently managed to complete a level for it. It has some minor tweaks to it, most noteworthy physics were changed to better fit Luigi as the playable character, and a midway block instead of a midway post. No guarantee it will ever turn into a full hack or even a demo though! I hope you enjoy watching this level anyways.

Tileset: SMW styled Bonusroom

Download

Just like the custom level above, this tileset comes from the rom that I been working on whenever I felt like it. It doesn't have much going on in it but I hope people will still find a use for it! I did want to create another Overworld tileset in time for C3 but I couldnt get around to doing that sadly.

Custom Music!

Title: LCDDEM - unused save screen theme

Composer: Koronba
Porter: Tob, nameless
Length: 18 seconds

Play (sampled) - Download

Play (unsampled) - Download

A little unused tune from a Yume Nikki fangame I did stumble upon a few days before C3. Special thanks to Maxodex for helping me transcribing the notes and nameless for making the unsampled version! The sampled version I aimed to recreate the feel of the Yume Nikki savescreen. The unsampled version is more akin to the original sound of the track.

Thus concludes this episode of Tob's Tubular Tableau! I hope people enjoy the level and find good use for the resources I made! I'll get to upload the resources to the sections and link them here accordingly as fast as i can. Happy C3 everyone!

DISCLAIMER: Thread doesn't contain any linguini... or any italian noodles for that matter.

The level looks very nintendoy, i like it.
And that tileset is very sexy too.
Nice port as well, gonna sleep to that tonite.
Pretty cool stuff, I really enjoyed watching that level
Very nice job with the port, you sure do like your relaxing musics, but it's done well. Can see myself using this at some point, so I'll keep it in mind!

Good job with the level and tileset too ofc c:
Thanks to all the kind replies so far guys! I really appreciate each and every one of them. Also I did go ahead and added the Download links to the tileset and music now!

That level is on point, good design and art.
The port is kinda short, but sweet.

The tileset and the level are both great. You're art is getting better and better as well as your level design. Keep up with it my friend #smw{:TUP:}

I don't remember if I said it the first time you showed them off, but that midway block looks sick. And the level design feels really solid and SMB3-esque (though that may just be the music influencing me). Great work!
The level is great and the tileset is good, but man that port is exquisite. I'm always surprised when a port has MIDI instruments! (like Culture Shock from worldpeace and your LCDDEM port)
Watching that level felt like a throwback to those old 2008 "SMW Custom Level" showoff videos on YouTube. The only thing missing is the ZSNES savestate spam. #tb{:p} The simplicity/vanillaness of the aesthetics, combined with the SMB3 athletic music really made it feel nostalgic. But even other than that, it looks like a fun and simple level. Nice job!

The bonus tileset feels right at home with the SMW graphics, and the port doesn't sound broken and staccato-y like HQ samples often end up sounding, so nice job on compensating it with the echo!!

Overall, c'est un très merveilleux tableau!

That level felt well designed, not so ambitious and nice. So was the tileset.

I got a calm feeling from that port. Sounds so nice and relaxing (especially the sampled version).

loving that lcd dem port - it and .flow are def my favorite yume nikki fangames. now you have to port every yume nikki song and every song from every fangame of it.

graphics look nice as well!
I want to play that level

So so many more kind replies! Thank you so much to each and every one of you #smrpg{<3}
I'm really happy that the level has had a very classic feeling to many people, that's exactly what I been aiming for! And the port('s) have already been accepted by the way!

All that aside for a moment though, I have some more and different things to show! No releases of any resources this time. Instead just some projects I been working on in my own time.

Ever since I first spotted the Specter Knight Wallrun patch I've been wanting to do something with it. After a long time now I have the baserom for this almost completed. As you can see in the .gif you play as a Ninji. I gave her the name Button for the time being (I even have the statusbar name replaced but I didn't feel like rerecording the gif lol). She can climb up certain walls for a short amount of time and jump off of them. She also has a short range projectile attack and she can turn invincible when she ducks! I got some more ideas to turn this into a really fun hack but I would definetly need ASM help for that.
So if anyone is up for that hmu!

Next up something completely unrelated to SMW hacking:

I recently (aka 2 days ago lmao) started using my Soundcloud account for actual music stuff I made! Some people may have seen me trying composing tracks on the Discord server already. It is of course very beginnery stuff but I hope some people can enjoy it anyways! As of right now I have 2 tracks uploaded on there:

Lovely Lullaby (For You)
A tiny 20 second lullaby I wrote yesterday, and it's all for you. Just went with the Midi musicbox instrument because it sounds so nice and cozy.

Vague Voyages
When I asked people what they are imagining while listening to this, I got lots of different responses. It's really fascinating how many different things people visualize when listening to this track. What do you envision while listening? Also worth nothing that I drew this cover art by myself and will probably use it for most of my future uploads too.

And again I want to thank everyone who checked into this thread so far! I'm happy that just me uploading and sharing random things I done gets looked at by so many people. It's such a nice feeling, really! I hope people like this new stuff I showed here too c:

EDIT: added a collapsed section detailing what I need done for the Ninji.gif project ASM-wise

Quite a little Tob-like Thread you have here Tob.

I really like how Mario Mario that level feels.
The use of those Spin Blocks is creative as well as them been in set-ups that are easy to understand even if a new twist is added to them such as them having enemies on them later in the level.

I've seen the Ninji stuff on Discord so I hope you make something out of it even if it is short and sweet.
Nice work as always man. #smrpg{<3}

I don't mean to seem dismissive of the rest of the thread ('cause it's all good stuff!), but I'm mostly here to congratulate you on your superior taste in Mario enemies. If I may ask, do you have any kind of idea what sort of gameplay this lil' lady is in for? A test of reflexes, or precision platforming? Short and sweet levels, or sprawling maps to explore? Light and breezy, or a brutal gauntlet? Or a mix of all of the above? (Or "aaaah I don't know yet I just wanted to make a cute Ninji game"?) All acceptable answers, by the way.

As an ASM person myself, I'd like to offer a friendly suggestion if I may - I personally think you'd make your case more appealing if you specified somewhere exactly what kinds of things you might be looking for. Some things that seem like they'd be really difficult are actually quite simple from a coding standpoint, and you might be surprised to find what you'd get out of a simple "how difficult would it be to do ____?" Worst case scenario you have no less than before you asked.

And with that, I wish you the best of luck, with this and your other endeavors!
Thanks for even more kind replies!!

My vision is a hack that is relatively easy to go through casually, but offers quite a challenge with extra missions for each level. Like a time attack mode and collectibles and that kind of stuff.

I have added a collapsed part to the post with the Ninji.gif detailing what exactly I need. Feel free to check that out!
