Russ' Misc. Hacking Thread Again - Part 3

PatchMisc. HackingScreenshots

Totally unexpected, I know.

Part 2
Part 3

Super Mario Bros. 3
Regarding WIP hack - i may release a new demo during this C3 which will contain first world and first level of second world. I decided it to be 2 worlds short. It was a expiremental hack in the beginning and i don't want to hold it for too long. Anyway, here's some ASM stuff:

Crazy Chomp but in SMB3.

Bully from SM64 but in SMB3.

Eerie from SMW but in SMB3, also comes with a giant variant.

Shy Guys. Certainly not the first time they appear in SMB3 (see: SMB3Mix) but my version also comes with a giant variant. How cool is that?

Thwimp from SMW but in SMB3 (i know about slight sink, IDK how to fix).

Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino and Hoppy

Remember i've been fixing Flintstones last time with automatic hanging? This time i've fixed knockback... by removing it completely.

You can download it here.

Oh, and also here's improved hanging from previous C3 bc i forgot to release it.
Download.

Duck Hunt

Made a small ASM hack to change shot counter to being numeric, which allows for increased max of shots (from 3 to 9).

NES stuff, lol. Still not bad, though. Actually, very good, especially with non-Mario related stuff.
Nice dude, you could make some great smb3 hacks with those

FLEENSTONES?!?!
Didn't expect this to be about SMB3 hacking!

This looks pretty neat, especially since making and inserting sprites into SMB3 is probably somewhat harder. The Eerie graphics are a little wonky, but other than that, everything looks well done!

Nice! I love the sprites you made for the Shy Guys.

Duck hunt ftw
I've already saw some of them, but I'm still impressed about them. Keep doing this fancy NES ASM, Russ!

Wow, I really like how your SMB3 graphics fit perfectly. I gotta agree with WYE about the eerie's graphics; they indeed look kinda wonky in comparison to the rest.
That Duck Hunt hack is sure to net a lot of kills though.

Really nice work!

Are you alive or just breathing?
Thanks for your replies!

I'd hack something for SNES, SMAS? But IDK. NES stuff is cool too.

most of these are by AwesomeZack of MFGG (Spritesheet in question), so if something looks off,

PART 2

Super Mario Bros. 3

Message system in SMB3! More complex than Retry patch i've made a long ago. If there were message boxes they'd use this system.

Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino and Hoppy

New custom sprite. It's basically a lakitu but in flintstones.
Cool Flintstones custom sprite! And although I have seen the SMB3 message system in Discord, it's still very impressive! If the latter were to be ported in the SMAS along with a custom message box sprite (which could use the ?-block graphics with a blue palette), that would be even cooler.

Sadly though, we can't use MushROMs now 'cause otherwise I'd have fun playing around with it...
My Mode 0 guide.

My Discord server. It has a lot of archived ASM stuff, so check that out!

That'd be neat. Maybe i will do so, but it's a little complicated right now.

Part 3

I really wanted to release a new demo of my SMB3 hack, but some issues popped up. So, here are some lame pictures.

1-Airship

Kinda like 1-4, a bit on an easy side though.

2-1

World 2 will use some of my custom sprites. 2-1 uses crazy chomps. A lot of them.

Hello world smb3 lolz cool. Are you using Michael's or Joe's editor. Looks good. Hope you stay by it. Seems like most are doing kazio ish stuff that I dont find interesting.
The SMB game engine is fun to mess around with. However, I'm unfamiliar with the SMB3 hacking scene. If there were advanced tools for SMB3 similar to that of the SMW community, I might be interested in making a full SMB3 hack, but again, I don't know how big the community is.

I'm assuming that those custom sprites in SMB3 are all inserted by you without any tools or whatever and I'm assuming they don't have a database with those sprites hosted like SMWC does?

For the Flintstones hack, I think that is awesome that you are fixing those things. Knockback works in some games, but doesn't work in others. Sometimes knockback is just annoying.

For Duck Hunt, I don't know if this hack idea exists, but is there a hack where player 1 shoots the ducks and player 2 controls the ducks?

When I was a kid we always thought that you might be able to control the ducks with player 2 controller, so if this hack doesn't exist then PLEASE make it and make my childhood dream come true!

Thanks!!!!

neither. i'm still using ancient SMB3 Workshop. i didn't get around to check them out, maybe i'll start using one of them when i start fixing issues.

I make them within southbird's disassembly and compile said disassembly. There's no database to host resources (with exception of patches) but i upload my ASMs on github so anyone working with disassembly can insert them (or in case of patches patch to their hack).

sounds like an interesting idea. i'll consider it for future showoff.
