The Super Mario World Central Production 2 Completion Project - More Progress!

GraphicsMusicSuper Mario WorldDemoScreenshots

Well, here we go again. I'm so glad that several of you users of SMWCentral were so willing to help pick up SMWCP2 again and make it shine better than it ever has before.

Six months of development and most of the soundtrack has been revised, several of the graphics have been updated by myself or others, and levels up to World 5 (Desert) have been added (except Frivolous Fires).
Other levels that were inserted (but may still be subject to minor or major changed) include Playground Bound and Lava Lift Lair. Blind Devil and I are working on Levels in World 6 (the carnival)

For those of you who are out of the loop, go check out what has happened 6+ months ago in the previous C3 thread here.

Here's a list of things that were changed (some levels may be still be revised in some way later):
-The following levels were inserted:
--Shemni-Frica Sea
--All World 4 levels
--All World 5 levels, except Frivolous Fires (Madame Mau boss not included)
--Playground Bound
--Lava Lift Lair
-Lots of songs were revised in some way, shape, or form
-A fair few bits of graphics were updated or inserted

Now, let's take a look at some of the graphics that I (and a few others) have drawn:

I updated the look of the World 2 boss, Alraune, who was simply referred to as "the dryad". Now she has an official name! Plus, she looks a lot cuter with my edits!

This is my take on that weird-looking mountain background, used in two carnival levels and a few other levels as well. I added carnival tents and gravestones to fit the level I'm currently revising, Terrifying Timbers.

Here's how the level looks with my current changes.

Here's another tileset that I decided to revise: a tileset that was originally just in Lava Lift Lair's second half. Now, the tileset is shown throughout all of Lava Lift Lair, as well as Smoldering Shrine. The pictures above are merely just a sample level. The palette version on the top is for Lava Lift Lair, while the one on the bottom is for Smoldering Shrine.

I'm working on updating Digsite Dangers' tileset to make it look more unique and stand out from the other desert ruins levels. This is a work-in-progress, so opinions and suggestions are always welcome!

Now, as far as music goes, here is a list of all .spc's showing the soundtrack in its current condition right now. The list of revamped and/or edited songs in the past six months include:

I would like to thank these users so much (especially Pink Gold Peach, as he contributed the most to the soundtrack revision) for their hard work and effort to polish the soundtrack to be in its best condition.

Now, if you guys want to take a crack and see what has been inserted and/or changed in the BaseROM so far, feel free to download the BaseROM down below:

Thanks for stopping by, everybody! Do you want to help save SMWCP2 from development hell and get it done, too? Feel free to check out the forum here, and/or join our Discord server here, to see what needs to be done! Or, go to the main page and find the forum and Discord link thread there; you can't miss it.
Just so you know, I'm very active on the site anymore like I was before; I'm mainly on Discord now.
Thanks for taking care of the project and keeping people informed of progress! I've been looking at the Discord every so often but haven't really been useful there in months.

While I trust there's no deadline, is there any sort of estimate on when a release would be realistic, or how much of it "feels" done at this point, gut or elsewhere? Either way, as always, keep up the good work on this! Hope this will see the finally light of day some time.

(I'd actually favor the approach of fixing only the most glaring issues and releasing what's done just to get the project off the todo list, but I'm not a project leader nor interested in being one. #ab{^^;;;})

We've taken care of half of all levels, and there's still plenty of stuff to look into which is mostly ASM related, of course, but things like the hub, the special final level/boss and the method of getting to the dream world have yet to be planned so I'd say we're roughly 45% done with the project. If the schedule of every single contributor permits, I think it shall be finished in December. But yeah, everything depends on external factors so it's a very blind guess.

By the way, I'm currently working on Sideshow Showdown (the red switch level). Got done fixing and revamping all the five games as well as the info rooms, and all I need to do now is to work on the 'game lost room' and the switch room. When I get something substantial to show, I'll do it.

This might just be the most ambitious smw rom hack ever.

Also I'm all for completing this thing, but at the end of the day, its all about whether the game plays well or not (game play above all else).

You can have the best music and best ASM and such but if the game play isn't there then its not going to be as good as it can be.

I can test play the levels and offer my thoughts, but I'm doubtful that people would actually listen to me if I offered suggestions and mentioned things that might need changing/tweaking.
That Alraune looks cute! #fim{<3}

Just to give more substantial info to this thread, some progress of Coaster Commotion revision. It always bothered a lot of people on how the coaster tracks didn't quite look authentic. For that reason, I am trying my hand at drawing.

is there any task i'm not doing regarding smwcp2?

The roller coaster tracks look quite neat Blind Devil; I'm guessing they're not finished yet?

I'm planning on using the skull kart sprite in my hack, and it would be great to be able to use the roller coaster track GFX, if you're okay with sharing them with me sometime.
Always cool to see people still pushing SMWCP2 forward! Progressing is still going on and on, and no matter how slow that may be, eventually the goal will be reached. Wish I could help out a little bit myself, but unfortunately, I just wouldn't really find the time/motivation for that.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
