bebn's mad multilingual multi-musical motivation-inconsistent mthread

MusicResource Release

Salut! Puisque j'avais besoin d'un autre mot qui commence avec un M pour le titre, voici une introduction inutile en français!

Over the past year or so, I've been playing around with a ton of random songs to port. My motivation's been inconsistent, however, so not all my ports get finished. So this C3, come take a gander at some of my complete ports, and some of my... not-so complete ones. Not-so-complete ranges everywhere from X% percent of the song being done, to having 4 notes down with zero mixing and big experimental instrumentation, so please judge accordingly :^). Some of them are from last week, while others are from almost 2 years ago, so yeah.

Also as far as complete ports go, I didn't test any of them in-game so mixing may change in the future.

And now the other side of the coin, ranging from hot garbage to eh:

And finally, a third, bonus category: two other ports from Luigi Goes Trick-or-Treating.

Oh, and final note. The requests from last C3 that weren't finished are still being worked on bit by bit. I've been in a bit of a motivation slump when it comes to drawings. Hopefully I'll have them done by next C3.

Feedback is always appreciated, as usual. Bonne écoute!

GOD DAMMIT BEBN WHY YOU GOTTA BE SO GOOD AT PORTING

Real talk, all of these sound fantastic, even a good chunk of the unfinished ones. Really glad to see you show off these bad boys!
Heya bebn legg!

You have some joyful SPCs to listen to. The Evening Star port is cool, but I really don't like the mixing on it. The main melody feels super muddy, and it kinda drowns some of the other instruments a bit. I really like the #64 song for its instrumentation. The NSMBW port is really neat! I like the subtle environmental noises you threw into that one. Some of your incomplete stuff sounds like it's off to a great start too.

Good to hear, I was experimenting with the echo on that one, and set a lot of the parameters to be super high to see what it'd give. It worked better for the @9 it originally was, but I didn't tweak it enough in the end after changing the instruments. Thanks for the suggestion! Here's an updated version, tell me what you think!

Oh, and speaking of which, I completely forgot to mention it in the OP (but I'll edit it in right now), but a huge thank you to Nameless for helping me fiddle around with the lead instrument.

Hmmm... I can't hear much of a difference. Seems like the instrumentation is clearer this time.

EDIT: btw I haven't downloaded these to look at the SPC values so I'm only trying to get the difference by ear.

Were you thinking more of a change in lead instrumentation completely or just tweaking echo parameters/volume? I lowered the lead volume, the reverb, and the echo volume.

The @2 sounds like it's in deep within a tunnel so it's likely the echo. In the original song, the melody is more up front.

Here's a version with louder @2. Part of the intention in making it so quiet was that the SFX cut didn't make it too noticeable. I can't decide which version I like better, I feel like this song is very flexible in terms of what leads work.

All these ports are great (even the unfinished ones as far as they are done). I intended to do a Driftveil City port as well, but i guess my WIP sounds pretty plain compared to your port. This is some excellent work and i can't wait to see more coming from you! Please keep it up! #w{=3}

Regarding Newer Wii's Pumpkin:

Are you sure you're going to have the @0 as the melody up an octave? It relatively feels a little too high...
bonjour bebn.

i really like these! i wouldn't be able to tell the difference between whats actually complete and incomplete here. not sure why, but those halloween and pumpkin SPCs sound strangely familiar...

Hmm, I initially did it that way to diversify the range of pitches in the song, since the low-octave @0 sounded a bit muffled. I personally prefer the higher-pitched version since it sounds more harp-like, but I see the appeal of the lower-pitched version as well. In that case, however, I'd swap @0 to @13 to get a softer sound. Here's what it sounds like.

hmm... that's really strange, idk where you could've heard them before. unless you hacked my computer????

Jokes aside, thank you for the kind words, everyone! 💙 It means a lot. Your feedback is also appreciated, so keep it coming!!
