Knucklesfan C3-palooza! Super Kekcroc World 3 unveiled! Widescreen and more...

ToolPatchMusicSuper Mario WorldVideo/TrailerScreenshots

Greetings C3 people! Today I have here some stuff to show off that I've been working on. First things first, introducing Kekcroc World 3!

SUPER KEKCROC WORLD 3 (title pending)

Super Kekcroc World 3 is the third and final game in the Kekcroc series, and I'm planning on making it the biggest one yet.
Here's just a few of the new features coming to World 3.

Widescreen
Kekcroc World 3 is the first SMW hack to support and be designed for both 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios! This will allow the player to see much more than usually seen, and provide overall a better visual capability! To use this feature, you're going to need BSNES-HD, or regular BSNES if/when it's added to the mater branch. Thanks FuSoYa!

Missions
One of the best features for replay value in Kekcroc World 3 will be the introduction of the mission system. Missions can sometimes involve going between levels, finding secret paths and exploring the stages to find characters to speak to. Once completing a mission, you are rewarded with some great stuff, be it powerups, new stages or maybe even a whole new world! You're just gonna have to wait and see #tb{;)}

Pause Menu
Now, what goes great with missions? Oh yeah, actually being able to read your mission log. Luckily, I've found the perfect solution to this problematic boundary, a new pause menu! The new pause menu allows you to exit a stage at any time and view your mission statement anywhere in a level! In the future, I also plan on adding more features to the pause menu, so what you see right now does not fully reflect how it will look at launch, keep that in mind!

A story not worthy of shakespeare!
Super Kekcroc World 3 will follow in the footsteps of it's former two brothers, in that having a story is a must. However, just like all of Kekcroc World 3, the story will be supersized too! For anyone who's just not a fan of story, you can always press START in Kekcroc World 3 to skip any unwanted story sections!

Bigger and better!
Take a concept from Kekcroc World 2, litterally anything. Now, take that concept and multiply it times 10. This is the concept in World 3. Super Kekcroc World 3 is the be-all, end-all Kekcroc hack. We really hope you enjoy the final project when it comes out later this year.

SNES DOWNLOAD!
Introducing the next thing to showcase this C3, a little HEAVILY WIP downloading tool known as SNESDownload! SNESDownload is an autodownloading, auto patching and autoplaying SNES hack player. This tool is fully customizable and open source. Written in the java language, you can deploy a hack on basically any platform imaginable. Android port coming soon, any help is definitely appreciated! SNESDownload Github page.
Here's a tech demo with Kekcroc DASH! which uses the SNESDownload platform (version of dash is outdated, this is simply just a tech demo, not really intended for playing, i mean you certainly can do that too)

This is the main launcher screen. After an initial setup, this will help you download or update your game, and launch the game itself.

Here you can manage save data for the game. In the future, I plan on implementing a feature where-in you can download saves from SMWCentral itself.

This is the credits screen. The hack name can be changed in the database file, alongside the creator.

Choice is key when it comes to SNESDownload. With this, you can either autopatch using the selections (which are totally customizable in your database file, by the way!) or manually patch it yourself. The patch can be found in the patcher folder if you choose to patch yourself.

Click launch and it's alive!! The game successfully launches.

If you would like to contribute to the SNESDownload project, please do! I'd love to have some helping hands every once in a while.

Widescreen patch
Yes, the tech behind Kekcroc World 3 can be yours too! Now, I must give the credit to FuSoYa for this, as for they actually wrote this patch. If posting this is a bad idea FuSoYa, please tell me and I'll remove this in a heartbeat.
DOWNLOAD NOW!!!

In their own words, FuSoYa gives a warning:

yes it should be possible,
though there'd be a somewhat increased processing cost with vertical
scrolling. And the VRAM patch itself would increase in size.

If you're just looking to play around with making hacks with that,
I've attached a patch that should widen the area it's doing updates
for, which you can apply to an unmodified copy of SMW with copier
header to use as a base ROM with LM 3.10. Though note that it's just
something I threw together and might not be compatible with future
versions of LM, so use it at your own risk
You heard it there, folks!

Music Rips
Now, you're probably sitting there saying to yourself, I just read one of the longest posts on any forums site ever, there's not a chance he has more to show off, right? WRONG! To end us off, I have some music rips to showcase here today. I think they're pretty good, but what do I know? This music may or may not be used in Kekcroc World 3, but its whatever I guess lol. Anyways, enjoy earrape/ ear pleasure

SMW Styled "music"

Mr blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra

Mario theme 2009 remix by Andrew Shand *SH&E*

All star by Smash Mouth

Yoshi's island Athletic ragtime mix by minion of gruumsh

Modarchive ports & more
It's the Nutshack but it's nearly fully lyric'd and in SMW

Thunderstruck with those sick riffs and some lyrics too!

Smooth remix of Smooth Criminal

Careless Whispher by George Micheal

CONCLUSION

That's about it! I hope you enjoyed this C3 page, I know it's long one! I might be able to get a Kekcroc World 3 demo out soon-ish but not guaranteeing things. I'd like to wish everyone a happy 2020 and see you later!
Kekroc is such an odd thing to behold, but I've always been extremely amused by how silly these hacks are while still having a high level of craftsmanship. They're less like shitposts and way more like composts, if that terrible pun made any sense. Not to mention the impressive technical aspects like actual, literal w i d e s c r e e n on a damned Super Nintendo.
If there was one thing to bring up, I would say that I hope you adjust the VWF Message Boxes so that they don't use the default sound options. Having that constant shell smacking sound followed by "Correct" is going to drive me to the brink one day.

I look forward to this madness!

ooh I never knew people didn't like the sounds! I'll definitely add some settings to change the sound effects, thanks for the comment!

What I'm planning in my own project is having each character get their own sound effect that acts as a 'voice' unique to them. I'd recommend the same for Kekcroc and friends!

Edit: also rank up to Hurt Plant!

I checked out the widescreen patch, thinking i'd be impressed with it... I wasn't.
Patched the ROM, loaded it up in BSNES-hd, and nothing seems to have changed.
World map still has bugged out graphics on the side, sprites disappear before they reach the edge, and the likes.

The widescreen patch was not made for just playing alone, it was instead made for hackers, to use as a base rom to allow for widescreen to work, because other SMW hacks don't work in widescreen. This patch was made as a fix for that bug introduced by LM.

TLDR; this patch does nothing but reimplement SMW's standard widescreen support while allowing hackers to use it too

Hm, understood. I just thought this would be like an actual patch for normal player use.
There was a tiny bit of talk of an SMW widescreen patch from Vitor Viella elsewhere (not on SMWC), thus I thought this was that patch finally realized.

nope, but with this hackers can now use widescreen to its full potential, so probably pretty soon you'll see more hacks supporting widescreen and taking advantage of that.

This port is so accurate, YouTube detected it as the real song and blocked the latest C3 livestream video worldwide.

(it's fixed but the audio from that section had to be removed, sorry)

Amazing to see SMW in widescreen, almost feels like a fangame. Your hack also looks funny
