I probably have a more "traditional" taste in music than most of the crowd from this site (and judging by most of the tracks submitted so far, I'm pretty much completely right on that assumption). My picks probably don't stand a chance because of that, but here goes nonetheless:

The Beatles - A Day in the Life

I see this as John Lennon and Paul McCartney's true masterpiece, at least when they worked together. This song is a perfect blend of experimentation, melody, emotion, and surprisingly captivating lyrics, even despite how nonsensical they are. The song ends in an incredibly unique way too.

Don McLean - American Pie

I actually thought someone would've nominated this already. Despite what I said about my previous choice, I consider this to be one of the few songs I've listened to where I think that the lyrics *really* matter. The poetry here is utterly brilliant with some incredibly evocative imagery, assuming you understand what events the lines are meant to be metaphors for at least. And of course, it's just a classic in general.

Bruce Hornsby - The Way It Is

A much lesser known song than my other picks, which is surprising considering it was a number one hit in the US. The words here are more about social justice, and in truth I don't care too much for the lyrics - I just think that the melody and instrumentation are incredibly beautiful, and still get stuck in my head all the time. I love that piano work (as well as on his other song, Mandolin Rain).

Kaneko Chiharu - WHITEOUT
Gloomy edit: removed from brackets for being from a game (Sound Voltex IV).

M2M - Pretty Boy
U2 - Sweetest Thing
Kraftwerk - Home Computer
Dynoro & Gigi D'Agostino - In My Mind
Gigi D'Agostino - Bla Bla Bla

The reasons why I chose the first song are that it holds up to this day and that one of the songs from Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine resembles it and its beta version sounds even closer.

The last two songs are more popular than most of others' choices. I'm not knowledgeable in indie music or something. I picked them because they're mixed incredibly well and vocals add much to the tunes. They're more monotonous in the latter, but they're still used ingeniously, although the former is better.

Basically, I believe in peace and bashing two bricks together.

OH! That sounds like good fun. Here are mine :

L'atelier - Le hip-hop c'est mon pote

Odezenne - Bleu fuschia

Causa Sui - Fichelscher Sun

I chose the two first because they're in French, and I guess not so well-known abroad.
The Causa Sui one has very good chill vibes.
I love this. Music is life.
