Overworld level tile

Just a quick question about SMW overworlds...

I'm wanting to make an overworld map that includes a blank space where you can choose multiple directions so it's less linear. Is there any way to make a blank spot in which you can't enter a level?
I'm looking for playtesters for Super Mario Starlight! Please check out this thread for info:

One easy way would be to take a level tile, set its number to a level you're not going to use, and check both "level has been passed" and "no entry if level passed". (Start from an empty save file for the settings to take effect.)
