This is a somerandomdude312 official post like anyone cares at this point

Trying to get back into ROM hacking.don't expect anything, though
I wasn't expecting to care about what Nintendo announced, and I knew that even if some new Smash fighter or something was released, it would matter much to me since I don't play Smash anyway ...

But dang. That announcement really caught me off-guard.

I guess I might have something to do when I go on vacation and get back home from college for a bit.

It was alright but also meh, I think the original Doom1 / 2 would be better and Pokemon SwSh was okay, I just wonder when we see the Starter Evulotion.

Yup, they already are. Now Doom 64 is just going to be joining them on there.
I just watched the Nintendo Direct.

O.K., this is really weird. The Nintendo Direct just announced a Trials of Mana remake releasing for Nintendo Switch on April 24, 2020. But wasn't that remake already in the Collection of Mana compilation game released for Nintendo Switch earlier this year? What is going on here?

And who the heck is Terry Bogard, and what the heck is Fatal Fury? I've never heard of either of those.

In the Collection of Mana is a translated version of the SNES version of Trials of Mana and also the remake was announced a while ago (at the same time as the Collection of Mana localization I believe)

Happy to see more ToM remake footage, I'm actually hyped for a new game for once. Also totally surprised by the Jedi Outcast Switch port (Would have preferred Rogue Leader or something else that has only been released on one platform ages ago) but still, epic#wario{B)}.

What? The Trials of Mana in Collection of Mana is the SNES version? I thought it was the remake! They announced a remake during that segment, so I thought the remake was in Collection of Mana.

I mean, why in the world would they release the SNES version when a remake is coming a year later? It doesn't make any sense!

Collection of Mana released in Japan in 2017, long before the remake of Trials of Mana would be announced. Also, the other two game in the collection (Final Fantasy Adventure and Secret of Mana) are the orignal games as they released on the Gameboy and SNES respectively so it'd be a bit strange to have the original version of the first two games then a remake for the last of the three.

I thought all 3 games were remade.

They all have remakes yes (Final Fantasy Adventure has several), but Collection of Mana has the original versions of the games.

According to Square Enix, they released a translated version of the original game in the collection simply to give players the opportunity to choose for themselves which version to play. Not the worst idea, considering Adventures of Mana and the Secret of Mana remake both turned out underwhelming.

That being said, the Trials of Mana remake actually for once looks like it's going to be... pretty good? I like that they didn't just blindly adopt the source game this time, but actually thought about which elements made sense and how to improve the game overall. Like, damn, you can actually dodge attacks now! I mean, there's still some things to potentially dislike about the game. I think it looks a bit clumsy in some places, especially the lip animations, and using UE4 also means that the game will only be at most 30 FPS on the Switch, but this is still the most hype I've ever had for a remake of a Mana game.
