Have you ever left a message in your hack for people poking around the ROM in Lunar Magic?

Or, if not, have you ever found such a message?

Another esoteric thread.

No I have not. Somewhat doubt very many others have might be wrong.

Although it does sound like a neat Valve-esque Easter egg.

Pretty much most of my hacks have messages in the rom itself.

Blocktool Super Deluxe would insert the following message into the ROM:

Code
somewhere in this ROM is a 256 color goatse timebomb, just waiting for that moment

If you have a chocolate enough hack from 2008-2012 lying around (that hasn't been touched since then), go look for it! It was kind of a weirdly rude message to put there.

(I can only assume it's a bluff)

I have, actually. There's a message box message you can't find in-game saying you're a cheater. There's also a couple of easter eggs hiding in there.
Sure, I leave messages in my hacks. And translations. And programs. And documentation and resources for the programs. What really gets amusing though is when you put in fake messages to distract from the real messages, and then people come up with very plausible sounding explanations for the fake messages that never even occurred to you, so then you...

Oh, nevermind. The point is, secrets are fun. #ab{;)}
Yes, people leave messages all over the place. I should start a gallery, but it can get people in trouble. I found a nazi symbol in one hack that had been moderated. I assume it went right back into moderation.

Not for the rest of the world. *half-joking sigh*

Anyway, yeah, for my hack I'm already planning to put messages for the curious into obvious spots in LM, such as level 105 or the overworld. (Might even put some ASCII in the ROM too.) It'll all be sincere info, though, nothing that could support two decades of lore. #tb{^^}

I keep messages inrandom levels for people who snoop around, usually congratulating them for being curious.
I plan on changing the Endless Bonus Game in my hacks to reference the Chris Houlihan Room from Zelda: A Link to the Past. The room will have LOTS of stars, the coins in my hacks, in it like in the Yellow Switch Palace and there will be a side exit that will take you out of the level.

I left a message on the main map in my "Work Project Thing" Hack back in 2018.
It said "Despacito"
I saw one in "Super Mario World: The Lost Levels." That was a pretty charming moment right there.

I also have one on my world map, but it's nothing too special.

There is some in my hack.
i only remember leaving "Zandro" message in one of my hacks.
I have left a couple of secret messages in Yoshi's Strange Quest, but those aren't the only secrets to be found in Lunar Magic. For example, YSQ's boss rush has pipes leading to every boss fight in the game, including
the Iggy boss fight
, even though said boss is only ever fought within a cutscene. The pipe to this "boss battle" intentionally doesn't work, but I went to the trouble of not only including a boss rush version of the boss room complete with an alternate palette, but also included a proper reward room for this "boss fight" (that gives a single coin). I did this specifically for attention to detail and to be an easter egg for those snooping around.

Sometimes I leave in unfinished/unused levels in the hack, and I leave a message box as a bonus. Typically I love to have various crude messages, insults, copypastas, the like. I think I may of found a secret message once before, but it was so many years ago yknow? I wouldn't remember
Our VLDC9 overworld entry had a giant dick fist in level 105. I think Frost made it or something, and it kept growing during development. Otherwise, I've thought about doing something like that but never pulled it off. Probably because I... never truly released anything (other than contest entries)
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
I have never made any kind of secret message as i have also never finished any of my hack projects. But i do remember poking around in the VLDC7 rom in Lunar Magic and there was a hidden message in one of the levels there. I don't remember what it said, but it was something to stop looking inside the rom in LM.
Still haven't managed to get the avatar working.
I left some messages in a few hacks of mine with references to shows if you check the message boxes in the overworld editor. I also left a big unreachable "no" in the last level of Doom of Pain. But otherwise, I'm not one to include easter eggs unless they are very elaborate (which is not my case at the moment).
