They say the older you get the faster time goes and they aren't kidding. It's wild that I've already been working at that store for a month!... Please slow down, Father Time, I want a moment to look around.

On a side note, is the current staff promotion policy to hire people with as little posts as physically possible? The newest Tool Moderator has 1 restricted post. #w{xD} (but shoutout to the romhack races)

I don't think post count should matter at all. Yes, post count kinda does prove you're active, but that's it. It doesn't really prove how good you are as a person or how good you are at doing your job.

Leod is the finest example of this. He has over 10,000 posts, and we all know how he turned out; both as staff and as a person.

And for the time going fast thing, I can relate. The first 18 years of my life was a complete slog. But the next 13 years just zoomed right by.

if one has more than a few hundred posts it's pretty likely 90% of them are garbage
It's amazing to me that anyone can deny the existence of climate change after the devastating tornadoes and storms that ravaged the Midwest this past week. Storms have been getting stronger and more frequent every year!

I sure hope all of our Midwestern US friends are safe out there.

Yeah post count doesn't really mean anything. I used to think it mattered when I was a a newcomer on the site (I think once I had a goal to get a post count higher than S.N.N.) and I used to do shit to up my post count a LOT back in the day (I think I made 1000+ posts over the span of less than six months in the first half of 2016). Nowadays I have real life to focus on and I don't devote a lot of my free time to SMWC or SMW hacking anymore, so by extension I don't post as much.

I think being active is more about how often you're logged in or how often you engage in the discord. I think once discord became more popular post counts became even more irrelevant than they already were.
This place has felt like a ghost town recently.

Anybody else sense that?

I used to do the same, bruh. I was going to raise my post count, but my goal wasn't to beat one certain person in it. I've been pretty busy recently and therefore I couldn't post a lot. Luckily, I'm taking a rest soon and I'll be able to do what I want without being concerned about time.

Ah, right! Discord! That's what I'm not very active on. I have no idea why, but I haven't downloaded Discord app on my phone where I spend most of the time on this site.
Maybe one day, I'll get a Discord-related award, but it's more likely I'll be the most annoying Discord user than the best one

No, I remember when this thread was more abandoned than that. If you meant this place was dead, it's still far from that.
I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

Basically, I believe in peace and bashing two bricks together.

I haven't been as active on discord as I should be, honestly, and a lot of that has to do with, well, time to spare.

Man I haven't been very active here and on Discord. Then again, life is to blame, but at least I'm finally out of school for the summer! I can't believe I'm gonna be a senior already! Hopefully I'll be a little more active during the summer.

I had the same philosophy in my early days. Honestly, at least 60% of my total posts are trash because I was pretty immature back then. I also cared about the ranking associated with your post count a ton. Like I would post solely to get a different character ranking, but now, I couldn't care less. Also, I can relate with that last part. I pretty much lost all my motivation to hack SMW due to being busy with other stuff. I wish life wasn't such a bitch.

I remember lion, and I can agree with that. He was kind of a dick. I remember when he would be a little rude to me after saying something he didn't agree with, but then again, I was younger and I said some pretty stupid stuff back then. He still should have been more respectful though.

I still remember this lovely display of blatant favoritism when he was rightfully permabanned for said behavior, and then got unbanned only because of the absurd amount of backlash from his entitled buddies because they thought he (and Leod, for that matter) should be above the rules.
Let's not become assholes ourselves, and stop talking about someone who's not around anymore. It doesn't exactly make the ambient here any better (no matter how justified your hard feelings are).

E: guess i should contribute.

Nowadays I think I just stick around the #music and #showoff channels. Everything else makes me lose interest quickly for some reason. I guess I just like randomly stumbling across eye/ear candy.

Also my university has been on strike for 3 weeks now and I'm really bored.

Yes, let's chill it out and talk about more pleasant things!

Who is excited for C3? I know I am. This might be the first time I got something really nice to show for it. So I am certainly looking forward to the event. And also Mario Maker 2 and this E3 and some other directs upcoming. This is going to be a good month, I can feel it!

I think I'm gonna retire SMW hacking as a whole so I'll probably make one final port before I retire and release it on C3.
I have a sinking feeling we're going to see a lot of hacking careers ending sooner than later.

On the other hand, I hope to begin/continue my journey very soon! Once I find some gosh darn inspiration.

But who else will provide high quality ports? What exactly do you plan on doing next?

Why are you leaving? You don't enjoy designing levels and porting music anymore? I'll reiterate Falaflame's question: what exactly do you plan on doing next?

As for me, I'll stay. I haven't done many things I want to do. I've never finished a lengthy hack, learned to port, or finished a holiday-themed level. I simply have little time besides school to work on stuff.

I should honestly be trying to finish First Foray before SMM2 comes. Otherwise it might never come, haha.

And yes it'll be released at C3 as well.
Decoy's a big bad graduate now and has no need for us lowly smw hackers no mo

I know just how it feels to have unfinished business. I just recently accepted the fact that I'll never finish my romhack and just dismissed it as a cancelled project after about a decade of work and nearly 4 years of hiatus in.

I mean, it wasn't that good anyways, all things considered, and some of the level design and palettes (oh dear GOD the palettes... what was I thinking?) I came up with felt cringe in hindsight. I did change some of them in the end (some of the levels don't look exactly as it was on video anymore) but there was just far too much work to go through and I had so little time to make any headway anymore.
