Hack

Hey. I decided to post my hack within this thread. And if you do want me to update this thread with more screenshots, then keep in mind that it's not possible, thanks to University. However, with the time I have, I'll try to make levels for the hack. I just hope you'll have some fun after playing them. Here are some screens of the 1st demo:
Level 1-1

The beginning

Better get some eggs.

Level 1-2

The sky section.

Simple area with a Cloud Drop.
Spoilers: The spinning GFX have been enhanced a bit.(thx, Doggycharly)

Level 1-3

The cave area. The flower should be easy to get.

A giant egg. It must have some purpose.

Level 1-4

The next section with blarggs and Gargantuan Blarggs.

A bonus room.

Level 1-5

The stone section. The next demo will have regular colors.

A simple puzzle.

You can play these levels. Click the:
Download link

Now to show what I'll release at the next C3 and you can download after I finish the next demo:

Level 1-6

Yoshi got the 2 red coins.

Yoshi must hop on numbered platforms.

Level 1-7

Yoshi was near the point where he finished 1-6. He appeared here.

That melon should help.

Level 1-8

The beginning of Kurt's castle section.

I re-draw the new platforms. Those lines do remind me of Metroid Fusion in a way.

I'll try to continue the hack. I just hope Golden Egg cooperates with me.
Any feedback would be nice.

Level Progress: 13/54
World 1: 8/8
World 2: 5/8
World 3: 0/8
World 4: 0/8
World 5: 0/8
World 6: 0/8
Extra Levels: 1/6

Icon Progress: 23/54
World 1: 8/8
World 2: 8/8
World 3: 8/8
World 4: 2/8
World 5: 0/8
World 6: 0/8
Extra Icons: 6/6
I'll upload some progress since no responses. At least there are views.
I changed Burt to look like:

And based on it, I changed Keith into:

I also changed Salvo to have the smaller one's colors. Some of you have seen it, but I'll post it anyway:

As a gift, I'll give you another screen about Extra 1 beside the one witht the Nep-enut:

This should give you an idea what the level is.
And for a final thing:

Level 2-1 focuses on bombs, hence the name "Bomb Voyage".
Any comments?
I'm showing 1-6, Platform Madness and the gimmick is easy:
Watch here
There will be different music.
Feedback is appreciated.
Since sublevel 48(2nd section of level 0B) is complete, but doesn't work on my hack, I figured I re-make it in an original ROM, extract that level and put it on my hack. I just hope it works. As for an update, I tried to re-make that sublevel as that being the only solution to progression. Here's the start of 2-2:

EDIT: If you do remember the patch that fixes some aspects of YI and adding new things, you should know it's updated and I'll release it at the next C3.
I managed to complete 2-3. There's a glitch that I fixed. I need to re-insert the level. Here are screenshots:

The 2nd section of 2-3.

Any way to reach that coin above?

Onwards and upwards.

Feedback appreciated, even though no one seems to say anything. I need some determination here.
Those pipes look really strange in the second screen. I'd recommend setting them up like this instead:

Red is where the pipe end overlaps the bottom/top of the other pipe.
I'm showing just 1 room. Here's a screenshot:

Can you guess what you have to do here?
And one more thing:

Is this better? Your first way worked. The 2nd doesn't. It causes the pipe to be a regular one, instead of an upside-down one.
I also fixed this in my complete sublevel.
This hack looks promising so far. I have a question. Since you say you plan on changing the music for these levels, do you plan on changing the music to the stuff the game already has, or do you plan on doing some music importing of your own?

-----------

STELLA!
I'll try to import songs after I inserted everything. AddMusicY beta doesn't check for freespace.
Very well. I'll put this hack on my watch list. I'm interested to see where this hack will go.

-----------

STELLA!
I managed to almost complete level 2-4. It has 5 sections in total, but I split them into 2 parts each: the first part includes the beginning and the end of the level, while the 2nd parts includes sublevels 49, 4A and 4B. Should I merge those 2 sections into a single part? It will require some work and while we're at it, should I make and should I re-make the levels and sub-levels and put them into parts?(Ex: level 00 and sublevel 36 into 1 part each)
Also, going slow, here's a screen of 2-4:

There are things to fix, like modifying the sprite sets to add the boo and prevent transparency, when Yoshi meets the round mound ghost.
I do have a big update here. Since my demo is almost complete(I need to add a flower to level 0C and that's it), I decided to show 2 more screens of 2-4, but first:

Thanks to XenonZed's suggestion, those double pipes have been fixed. This is level 2-1, by the way.

Now for 2-4:

This is the 2nd section of that levels. I'll have someone beta test the 2nd demo for flaws.

And speaking of bosses, Ghoser got an upgrade:

He's shiny, but he's the same boss. I also increased the boss' HP.
I'll release this at this Summer's C3.

The following change might appear at this Summer's C3 or at Winter C3. It depends on my generosity. A user named ravegg decided to make his level and sublevel(s) via Golden Egg and then inserted into his ROM. I did this for sublevel 48 and so on. But I'm taking a step further and do something to make my hack a bit manageable: it's about freespace. I redesigned some former levels to consume as less bytes as possible. Except for one level, the rest turned out well. Here are 4 screenshots:
First is level 00 and sublevel 36(or level 1-1 in total):
Level 00: 1214 bytes
Level 36: 787 bytes
With some upgrades, like shortening trees, I got this result:
Level 00: 1194 bytes
Level 36: 757 bytes
Now it's level 1-2's turn. Before:
Level 01: 103 bytes
Level 6D: 452 bytes
Level 3B: 538 bytes
Level 3A: 304 bytes
After:
Level 01: 99 bytes
Level 6D: 433 bytes
Level 3B: 514 bytes
Level 3A: 274 bytes
Level 1-3 received the most changes. Even level 02 has been fixed.
Before:
Level 02: 238 bytes
Level 07: 685 bytes
Level 3C: 2303 bytes
After:
Level 02: 231 bytes
Level 07: 110 bytes
Level 3C: 1754 bytes
Now it's level 1-4's turn:
Level 03: 992 bytes
Level 3D: 280 bytes
Level 3F: 2176 bytes
After:
Level 03: 899 bytes
Level 3D: 258 bytes
Level 3F: 2109 bytes
Feedback is appreciated.
While I wait for responses about my hack(it's long, but I'll be patient), here are 2 improved icons from world 1:

The fang didn't look good and there was water and pipes in 1-7. There was a water section and a few pipes and that's it. I re-made them to fit the style.
Here's an improved icon from level 2-1:

There was 1 explosion in the former icon. I added more here.
You'll see those icons at summer C3.
Now to show something you'll see at the winter C3:

This is 3-2 specific. Not sure what to call this one: perhaps 'Dancing Jungle'?
Feedback is welcome here.

The icons look a little rough around the edges, but that could just be my eyesight playing tricks with me. Nonetheless, I can see the base concept behind them.

As for 3-2, how about "Jungle Jam"? Since I love me some SNES Donkey Kong Country games, I enjoy me some alliterations, so I figured I'd bring that idea up.

I did the icons as good as I can. And isn't the level 'Jungle Jam' already used?

In a Yoshi's Island game? I don't remember.

Yeah after taking another good look at the icons. Yeah, they're fine. This is what happens when I judge when i just woke up lol.

You might be thinking of 'Jungle Rhythm' from the original game.

I see. I'll think about it.
Small update. Since C3 is nearby, I'm going to change a bit of the HDMA. Stay tuned. It will appear.
Okay, I changed one of the HDMA.

Feedback is appreciated.
Not sure if I'd consider this an update. It's like a suggestion. Depending on the players' choice, I'm going to translate the hack into Romanian. The decision belongs to you.
