Site Changelog

There is a new option in your Edit Profile page which will allow you to hide all avatars.

This resolves issue #88 by Fullcannon.
Comments on news articles are now reported to #site-feed on Discord. This was missed when implementing the internal event queue and I kept forgetting to add it.
I've fixed two issues related to usernames. Donor coins will now properly display on the Noir scheme and long usernames won't wrap on two lines if there are icons before them. This resolves issue #97 by LethalBrownies.
There is now a new CuteEdit button which explains a previously undocumented feature that allows you to embed videos from YouTube and Twitch. I have not changed any file versions, so it might take some time for the button to appear for all clients. This is a response to issue #85 by Roberto zampari and issue #98 by Scrydan.

Contact a member of the coding team if you want another service (not necessarily a video service, either) to be allowed inside iframes.
There is a new internal system for notifications which is accessible from the Alerts item on the menu (located under PM). Notifications are short messages which you can discard at any time. They're sent to inform you of various events that don't warrant PMs. Currently, they're only used to alert you about approved or rejected submissions.
I've fixed two bugs related to the way threads are displayed. The first one is issue #105 by Scrydan, which concerns blank new lines and thread tags.

The second one is internal issue #106, a bigger one related to the NEW labels. Previously, a phantom thread would display a seemingly random NEW label because of the discrepancy between its actual forum and the one it appears in. This should no longer occur.
I've implemented a system which allows you to watch threads for new posts. When you watch a thread, you'll receive a notification (in the Alerts page of the menu) when someone posts in it.

You can watch (or unwatch) a thread using the new button in its toolbar, located next to the New Reply button. Additionally, you'll automatically watch threads you create.

You can view the list of all threads you're watching by using the next button in the forum index, located next to "Mark All Forums Read". Your watched threads will be displayed in alphabetical order, regardless of unread status or importance. You can unwatch threads directly from the list, too.
I've made some changes to the description filter in memory maps. It will now search through text in details, which should make them a lot more practical. Additionally, I've fixed a bug with the synonym replacement algorithm which made you unable to search for keywords like "bowser".

Both of these issues, internally #107 and #108, were brought to my attention by Thomas in a PM.
The notification system has been expanded to allow you to watch files in sections. When you watch a file (the button is at the top right of its details page), you will receive notifications when someone submits an update for it or comments on it. Notifications for approval or rejection are still only sent to the person who originally submitted the file.

You can view a list of all files you're watching from the Watched Files page, linked on the Notifications page (the Alerts button in the menu). Watches will be automatically adjusted if the file is updated.

This resolves issue #81 by Darolac.
Posts shown in the Thread Review section now have a short link button available next to the Quote button. This resolves issue #123 by FPzero.
The links to your watched files and threads will now always be displayed on the Notifications page, even if you don't have any notification. This resolves issue #129 by Shiny Ninetales.
As everyone has probably noticed already, new username icons have been added - wrenches for bots, mushrooms for helpers, flowers for staff members, feathers for team leaders, and stars for administrators. Additionally, the cake icon used for birthdays has been updated and is no longer unnaturally big.

We thank Eevee, FPzero, Meirdent, and Tob for the new icons.

This change was implemented as a result of an ongoing discussion in Site Questions, Feedback & Bugs.
I fixed the bug where usernames (or the emblems before usernames) could sometimes wrap over newlines. Now they should always stay on one line.
The preview button in the music sections is now an icon next to the submission's name as opposed to a separate column next to the download button. This resolves issue #132, where multiple users pointed out that the previous position was inconvenient.
I've added two new fields to the Edit Profile page - Twitch and Pronouns. This resolves issue #153 by 7 Up and issue #154 by Samantha.

Additionally, you can now disable holiday names. The option will appear in your Edit Profile page when holiday names become available.
I've finally managed to finish rewriting the Staff Feedback form. It now allows you to preview your message before sending it. Additionally, you can now choose whether your feedback should be anonymous.

I want to stress that it is strictly your choice whether you want to send anonymous feedback or not. The option to share your identity is opt-in; unless you explicitly enable it, there will be no way to trace who sent the feedback, just like before.
I've rewritten part of the SPC player. It should once again work on iOS (emphasis on should because I can't test it) and it's now a lot lighter. The stuttering when a song was played or stopped is gone and it uses half as much memory (according to lazy empirical tests).

I have also added a seek bar, allowing you to hear different parts of the song.
The comments on news articles have been made read-only. You can no longer post new comments or edit existing ones. In the near future, comments will be removed completely.

Comments on news articles are being retired because their popularity and quality have both been declining. Almost every article is linked to an announcement where further discussion can take place. The few comments that were being made did not express any meaningful opinion or were straight-up shitposts.

I would like to stress that this only concerns the comments on news articles. Comments on submissions in the sections are still available and there are no plans to ever retire them.

Along with this change, you will now see a NEW label next to the News link in the menu when a new article has been posted. This was suggested a while ago by Maxodex.
These are changes from the past weeks that weren't announced here when they were made.
  • The birthdate in your profile is once again private. On your birthday, the cake icon next to your username will no longer display your age.
  • The currently playing SPC file will be highlighted in the music sections. Suggested by Koopster.
  • Comments have special smwc.me shortlinks that always link to the correct file, even if it has been obsoleted. Initially reported by Ayami, then brought up again by Giftshaven.
  • The list and details page in a section have a new button that takes you to a random file in that section. Suggested by lion.
Some new icons have been added to the Lunar Magic emoticon set. Thanks to StackDino for providing images of the missing buttons.
