VLDC11 - Results!

Holy shit! 21st place?! Now that's a big step up from my VLDC 9 entry.

I'm proud of it!

meh, tbh I was already expecting a score like that for my submission from the start, and what Maxo and Pinci said about it on Discord pretty much just made it more apparent I was going to get a bad placement lmao; think it might mostly just be because of the fact I'm terrible with anything but arrangements tho, and making something that would actually be even considered "creative" enough (especially for stuff like VLDC) or even just something that would be more like a remix of something is honestly pretty much impossible for me

and honestly, even if I did try my damn hardest to at least mask that fact, it's still not good enough; it was a mistake for me to base that submission on a past VLDC track as well, and I don't even know why I went with that, guess I just wanted to see if I could improve on it somehow??? I'm probably one of the few which actually likes that remix tbh, so it's no wonder there would be a lot of others who would dislike that approach

meh, maybe I'll just remember to not do this again until I'm actually good enough on that area to do a proper enough job at this...

oh yeah, nice job to everyone else btw, and especially Pinci and Blind Devil; your submissions were definitely the best ones this year, haha

Well, I got 30th, which isn't bad, and better than I did in VLDC10.

It's too long on a first playthrough as well, so it's easy to run out of time.

Running out of time was a joyous moment.

Yeah, this was one of my concerns, and there were some ideas I left out because I figured the level was already long enough as it was. I guess I should've trimmed it even more. Just like MarkVD100, I kinda wished the time limit was 600 instead of 500.

LOL. And yes, some rooms were meant to be "guess and check"/"brute force" style.

While I appreciate the messages you left, I couldn't help but feel like there were possibly an unnecessary amount of them constantly popping up and slightly breaking the level's flow.

I really suggest toning down on the message boxes...

This level would not stop talking to me.

Oh, I guess I became more talkative than Rotom-Dex in Ultra Sun/Moon. (I've become one of the things I hate!)
48th place, while maybe not the best I could actually have done, I definitely appreciate the judges liking what I was going for in the stage itself. It was definitely a simple stage for sure, though I was lacking the creative freedom to do basically "whatever" for a few years so yeah.

I'm definitely proud of the stage I made simply based on the judges' comments, even if they pointed out some faults which I could've fixed up for sure.

E: bebn legg, even if it got last place I actually thought it was really clever mixing the Game Over theme as the chords of the city theme. So please, don't be discouraged!

You won't get better unless you keep practicing and trying, even if you don't like the end result. instead of refraining from participating in a music contest like this again, you should actually do it even more than before.

yeah, maybe you're right honestly; but I dunno, I honestly don't really like the SMW soundtrack in the first place, and most of the other VLDC remixes have already done much better jobs in making proper reimaginings, so it's a bit hard for me to do something more with the soundtrack IMO

then again, it might indeed be just lack of practice with this sorta stuff; who knows, maybe I'll get better at it if I keep doing it I suppose :V

There were a few opinions from the judges that bothered me or seem questionable, especially my accuracy OCD. I find some of them moot for a Mario Expert such as indicators that's suppose to make challenges logical and give you a sign to react.

The time limit cap, all it did is just make my life difficult in terms of maintaining the level being interesting and casual.

A couple things. You'd have to explain how the time limit was that big of an issue. Your level was already too long and I don't really see how adding more time would have helped you or us while judging this level.

Are the opinions from us questionable because they go against what you thought your level should have been seen as?

I don't mean to sound rude here but I'm generally just confused by this response. #smw{-_-}
Looks like I'm getting 7th place in all the music contests #tb{:DD}
Honestly, I expected it, considering my entry was very much rushed and is technically unfinished. I crammed it together last-minute after Sinc-X extended the submission deadline. #tb{:p} At least I do have a solid base if I want to improve it.

Likewise with my level, I wasn't too satisfied with how it turned out, but I'm still glad to be above 100th place at least. I had fun this contest, so I'm happy regardless.

Congrats to the winners! Admittedly, I haven't played much of the levels. However, I did listen to the music tracks, and they're pretty creatively made, especially the night theme! The hills theme was also one of my favourites, I love the western-y vibe. Congrats Pinci, Blind Devil, and Gifty! #smrpg{<3}

Well, I'm 63th, it's hard for me to have to try the next one.

genuinely surprised at second place. congrats @ idol/lazy, you two deserved first!
To be honest? A smidge disappointed.

Top 30 was my goal so being 32nd is kinda rough, but I know essentially where everything is lacking sooooo

idk. stuff.
woag.....

(previously superdragonyoshi1. sup yall.)
46th? At least it's a big improvement over my VLDCX placement.

The judges definitely aren't wrong about my level having kaizo vibes, as I drew inspiration for this level from a couple of kaizo levels that I had seen. I feel like my level design philosophy has developed to preferring obstacles that have at least moderate amounts tightness and challenge. This definitely lends to the making of kaizo levels, which I have been doing.

Probably not gonna make any more levels for future VLDCs and just stick to making kaizo levels. (Might enter a KLDC here someday.)
Great. Now idol can gloat even more, what have you all done!!!

But seriously, huge congrats to the winners and super mega huge congrats to Lazy and idol and S.N.N. and ft.

Oh and shout outs to Dan Drigues for doing so well! And same with Christian07 as well. And ECS just around the corner, keep making levels cause yours was great!! Oh, and shout outs to Galaer for doing well too. Excited to see new people in high ranks, keep it up.

Of course, can't forget to thank the judges. Despite the blessed death of the cursed YES YES YES this year, it is still quite a large task to judge these boys. So thanks for judging these boys, and we shall earnestly await for morsel to goal-sphere-door his own level.
My level got 71st place.

Mmm, I was hoping I wouldn't get below average results, but I suppose that is a fair score for being my first VLDC. I felt like entering a level just for fun. I'm not an expert level maker anyways. Some of you guys know a lot more than I do, and I applaud and congratulate those that went the distance and made it into the top.

And... hey! One thing I can be happy about:
3rd place in the remix contest!

Twitter
44th place!!!

That much better then my VLDCX entry level.

It's been explained to you why you were disqualified. Your level crashes after the title screen.
