How many exits does your first hack have?

I'm making my first hack and I wonder how many exits it should have. How many exits did your first hack have? Whats your estimated average amount of exits in someone's first hack? How many exits do you think I should have? And how long would your first hack be if you could describe it in; Short, Decent or Long? #smw{o_O?}

Talking about first hacks might not be that useful, because everyone's first hack sucks. Very few exceptions. Most people get as far as a one-world demo (around 10 exits maybe) and then end up canceling it.

I barely remember what was my first hack anymore, so I don't think it really matters anyway. You make your hack with the amount of exits you want, as long as it isn't too short and has enough minutes of gameplay.
Pretty much it's as WYE said

There really are a lot of "I need to get my post-count higher" threads being made of late aren't there?

The first hack I EVER made had 1 exit and it was called Super Orange World with a bunch of ugly orange palette swaps. It was a youtube esque hack that I submitted to this site when I was 11 and it was rejected.

My first hack had 10 levels and I didn't even knew how to edit overworlds back then

And that's your problem because...?

If we're talking about my first hack made after my return, it had 100 levels planned for it. Only 5 came to be before I patched too many things into it with no backups made. Whoops. My first submitted hack (which you can find on the first page of the hacks section as of January) had 5 exits as well, with 3 more levels being planned for the final product.

This is what a "I need to get my post-count higher" thread looks like. There's a reason why those threads are in the Trash Can. This thread isn't even anywhere close to qualifying as such.

Anyways, my first (and to this date, only) hack has 55 exits. I don't intend on updating it anymore, however.

I'm curious, what sort of threads do you expect out of the "SMW hacking discussion" section?

What is your concept of a thread that screams "I need to get my postcount higher"? This one is pretty much the opposite of what you would expect.
Reminder that just because people create threads like this that are almost unspecific it doesn't automatically mean they serve to raise their postcount, unless it's a shitty, thoughtless thread.

Sorry for the derail. Carry on.

My first hack had 96 exits like the original SMW because I was still using the default overworld and overworld editing wasn't really a thing back then (actually I remember it being a hidden feature in Lunar Magic at the time).
No idea, I "released" bunch of crap that were complete gibberish so I dont think those count. My first hack that has some effort put into it has 88exits(56 levels). In hindsight I probably should have gone for quality instead of quantity, many of those levels weren't that good.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but nobody cares about postcounts until someone brings it up.

Okay so this thread has just turned into everyone responding me xD

Now it's definitely a post-count thread. Get your post counts! Come and get your post counts!

That post was also from 3 days ago, and even said something in the post to contribute to the topic (thanks for only quoting the first piece of it to make it look like there was no substance), so y'all can lay off.

It's also not necessarily true that no one cares about post count until someone brings it up. Can't tell you the amount times I've gotten warnings about "poor posting habits" and what appears to be just upping my post number by staff members.

Can we please return this thread to its original topic? Plasmodium, there's no need to backseat moderate. If you believe someone is posting for the sake of it, feel free to let a moderator know via PM instead of taking it upon yourself to accuse others.

My first hack was probably about 20 exits or so, but it was only a demo and I scrapped it. The hacks I have on the site from the early 2010s are 7 and 49 exits respectively. They're also bad hacks because they're ancient and I wasn't good at this.

I certainly am wrong with this data, as my first ever hack is back from 2006... but I remember I've got like 40 exits done; however, only the levels, as I didn't know how to make OWs at that time.

Dream team (feed them, please):

When I make my very first hack like other people, I actually planned about 8 worlds and 80 exits. I believe I would make a great hack and delight everybody around me. However, I just finished 5 levels / 8 exits. With various technological problems and lack of enough design skills, I gave up.

While I actually made an overworld at that time, it just looks blocky and uninteresting.

I think I didn't even completed my first hack :p well, if you're talking about my first hack already finished, it's probably has 1 exit. I prefer doing 'mini-hacks' than a big project.
Quality over quantity!

I'm planning for my hack to have around 24 exits, but if I feel like the quality is suffering I'll definitely consider lowering that number.

Well, i'm in a similar position, as i'm also starting to work on my first hack. Personally, i'm planning for it to have around 60 exits. It might be a bit ambitious, and i'll see how it goes during the development phase, but so far this is what i've planned.

But when it comes to you, i'd say just go with whatever you feel you can make. There isn't really a definite rule or a recommended average amount.
Though do keep in mind what MajorMuff said, quality over quantity.
