Plumbers Log
I know that many of you have been waiting patiently for the 6.0 update and by now probably just given up due to lack of information for me for a long time now. Between this project and the merry Mountain Christmas Adventure project released a bit over a year ago, I had gotten myself pretty burned out. Rest assured I do intend on finishing the Just Keef addition update. There are many new features that have been implemented and I unfortunately bit off a bit more that I could handle. There are new Yoshi's in the game and a lot of work had to be put into implementing them so that they fit naturally, due to the color scheme of the game I had to add in New koopas and Goombas, among a few other enemies, that had to not only have unique mechanics but also had to make sure that they were compatible with all the Yoshi's and in the case of
Koopas, had to make them compatible with the vanilla ones when they jump into other colored shells. I am also trying to integrate a character swapping mechanic and the ability to unlock new characters. A new level is being worked on and I've added a few new dinosaurs. I've added in cutscenes at the beginning and end among many other features and fixes from the older version. I hope you all understand why this is taking so long. That being said if anybody would like to help with some things, I am having trouble with some of the ASM work I need done and I could use a level designer to help me make this new level shine and help improve the old ones that I made. If you have any interest in helping in this project send me a PM especially if you are good at Asm. I truly want this hack to shine and I want players to feel as though this should have been how the game was supposed to be all along. Help would be appreciated but if not all I truly ask is for your patience and just know that the project is not dead.

Plumbers Log,
My work continues steadily on bringing this hack to it's full potential. I cannot believe how long it takes to add even the tiniest of details to this thing. Just keeping you posted and letting you know the project is far from abandoned. Currently I am working on making the ending of the game into more of a credits cutscene rather than having Mario walk for 6 minutes. I know that when it comes to hacking people tend to care more about the level design and whatnot but I have always felt small cutscenes and the like tend to bring the characters more to life and make things feel a bit more real in a way. Anyway, hope you all are enjoying spring and I'll let you know when this project is getting close.

3/23/2021 Progress Update

Hey everyone. If you are here I know you have been waiting patiently for the next update. I wanted to let you all know I am still very much making steady progress. This update completely overhauls everything I did for this hack on original release so it has been taking me a long time. I have fixed many of the major issues that the hack had before including fixing the saving of dragon coins and now there is no need for a separate game patch to play as Luigi as I've made a code that allows you to switch him on the Overworld like in SMA2. Thanks for your patience. I promise that if you bare with me you'll love what you see. I am trying to add new concepts to the game to both enhance gameplay and keep the original spirit of the game alive. Problem is, there is still very much about asm that I do not understand and well, its a process lol. Anyway, just wanted to let you know it is still coming along and I just need ya to hang in there with me for a while longer.

Be on the lookout for the new update. It still has a ways to go but I thought I would draw a small teaser poster. Lots of glitch fixes, new gimmicks, cutscenes, and a lot of special surprises are on the way in Super Mario World Just Keef Edition Version 6.0. See you all soon. Thanks for playing and always remember to trust the fungus.

- Just Keef

It's the game we grew up on with updated graphics, additional enemies and Dinosaurs, new tricks traps and paths, updated mechanics, and all new surprises along the way. Mario and the gang have decided to
take a break from adventuring only to find that there is yet another adventure to be had! You know the story, Bowser kidnaps the Princess blah blah blah.

This is a reimagining of the original game with sort of a Lucas twist. Now Dinosaur Land actually has a wide variety of Dinosaurs, Luigi is his own man and not just a color swap of his brother, Toad joins the adventure with tips and useful item stops, all new original levels, and much much more! So if you feel like reliving the fun of Super Mario World with some added challenge, give my hack a whirl.
It's a BLAST FROM THE PAST!

Super Mario World Just Keef Edition

(Patch files with flips. Seems to work best in snes9X 1.58)

A blast from the present is more like it what with the new graphics you threw in there. I really think if you save these graphical changes for a fully fledged hack you might have the makings of something really creative and neat.

The hack seems nice, but, unfortunately, the game freezes after the Dragon Coin in the Title Screen Demo is collected and when entering Bronto Plains.

I really do enjoy this hack as well, the added stuff is nice and I do agree with Plasmodium about making it for another fully fledged new thing! Cool stuff!
I might do a real hack someday. Honestly mario world is my all time favorite but there where just things I wanted to see when i was a kid playing it. I loved the cartoon so i wanted to connect it more. I hated that toad wasnt in it and that Luigi was just a pallete swap. Once I figured out I could change things it spiraled. So think of this as more of the original game that a hardcore fan of mario and the gang wanted to see.

I really like the Dinosaur sprites.

Is the smoothness of everything baked in to the hack itself or is that a filter via emulator?
Thats a filter in the version of Snes 9x that I use.

Are the game freezes going to get fixed? I would really like to play this hack, but I can't enter Bronto Plains because the game freezes when I enter it.

The thing is it doesn't freeze in the emulators I'm using. I've tried patching it a few times now and the game doesnt freeze on my end so I am not sure what to try to fix. What emulator are you using?
Trust the Fungus.
I tried both the SNES Classic and BSNES-Plus. BSNES-Plus is also supposed to be one of the most if not THE most accurate SNES emulator.

Well this was my first hack so I might have done something wrong along the way. I have no problems using it with snes9X 1.58. If say give that a try and let me know, not really sure what else to do.

It crashes in snes9x 1.58 too. I just tried it. Sorry guy but it's currently unplayable.

I played the hack in Snes9x 1.58 and it doesn't crash for me.

This might be a stupid question, but its clear there are 2 different patches right? I have a version that plays in 2 player and a version that is only single player and let's you select mario or Luigi. If both patches are used on the same rom it definitely will crash.

I played most of your hack (haven't finished the Special zone yet) and overall it was a very nostalgic experience. I especially like most of the new dinosaurs and that Red and Blue ! blocks actually have stuff in them now.

I do have a few critical thoughts I thought I'd share with you, to potentially improve your hack further moving forward.

(Crystal Secret 2)
This level was too enemy-spammy. It was the first level I encountered with the Kangaminus, but I wasn't able to appreciate this new enemy because the screen was constantly flooded. I think if you remove every other paratroopa from the intro it will feel a little better to play. There was a similar problem with Goombas and Chitters in other levels; I'd recommend removing every other Goomba from levels with Chitters for the same reasons.

I also had a problem with the secret exit in this stage; it wasn't so much a puzzle as it was 'pick a pipe'. I'd recommend either making the silver P-Switch make a coin arrow point to the correct pipe, or coloring the pipes in the overworld section of the level in the same manner as the underworld and making a break in that sequence indicate the secret pipe (that is, if the stage above has red-red-yellow and the stage below has red-red-blue-yellow, it then becomes obvious to the careful observer that blue is the secret pipe). Fossil Canyon 1's secret was brilliantly hidden in this manner and you did great with the keys, so I know you can come up with something cool for the second exit here.

(Tyrano Mountain 2)
Tyravonous was not threatening; he's too slow to pose a significant hazard and when he does catch you he just hurts like a spike. I think this enemy could be made much more intimidating by giving him the Boss Bass effect; if he touches Mario/Luigi he should swallow them whole.

(Forest of Illusion 6)
This is by far my favorite level in the hack. That said, I didn't like the underground section. The boulders were spammy and there wasn't a way to carefully progress other than simply running at full speed. I think this section could be improved by replacing the falling rocks with Diggin' Chuck dirtballs, so that they interact with the terrain (allowing Mario/Luigi to take cover under platforms) and so they can be spin-jumped on.

(Valley Secret)
Leolapleurodon has the exact opposite problem of Tyravonous--he's too aggressive. If you make a single mistake, you have no hope of getting out of his teeth. I think he needs to be slowed down slightly to accommodate Mario's/Luigi's poor horizontal acceleration in water.

(Toad's Lookout)
Just a pet peeve, but the music in this level broke the illusion for me. Up until that point I was able to convince myself that this was a special edition of the original Nintendo game, but the aLttP darkworld music just doesn't fit. I think there are Mario-franchise songs that would work better here, like SM3's Airship Brigade or Yoshi's Island castle theme.

(Tubular)
You made me do this level without a blue yoshi. You monster.

Again, the hack was amazing; my favorite new dino is Brachio Pete (followed by Yobby), your choice of aesthetic fits perfectly with the game's existing assets, and it was a pleasure to play. There were a few tripping points (as described above) but overall I would definitely recommend this hack.
Thanks for the notes. You'll be happy to know I took them to heart and made some changes.

- Tyravonous Rex is now a bit faster.
- Leolapleurodon is now a bit slower.
- The spamming in Crystal Secret 1 has been improved.
- The secret exit in Crystal Secret 1 is now a bit trickier.

I did not do anything to the underground area. I had recently made it so that only the large boulders can hurt you. I personally like the gimmick of this part so I made the choice to leave it unaltered.

That's fair. I was unaware the little rocks were inert.
I look forward to playing it again, the hack is really quite remarkable and unique; I love vanill-ish style romhacks.
Well I uploaded the 5.0 version the other night but it does not seem to have gone through yet. Hold out replaying til then to see those new changes I mentioned
Trust the Fungus.
I fully completed version 4.7 some time ago and had a fine time doing it. Nice work, I enjoyed this and it was a nice vacation from the much tougher hacks I usually play. Will check out version 5.0 when I have some time.
Hey, great hack! Although, I do seem to have a problem. In Fossil Canyon, I can't get access to the secret exit in the pipe area with the dolphins. Once I get to the exit pipe, the screen is supposed to keep scrolling, but it just doesn't, I can't go past that pipe. I have it patched to 5.0, playing on Snes9x 1.6, everything else is fine. Every video I've seen has players just keep walking to the right, but my copy just won't do that. Something I need to do?
