Forest Blitz V1.0 *Cancelled for now*

V1.0 of my entry Forest Blitz is now up in the submission forum. Hope you all enjoy. Minor upgrades to come. For best effect please try it with VLDC rules where power ups don't carry over to the next attempt. Save states welcomed.

Submitted for playthrough and testing purposes.

This is my first VLDC entry ever so all feedback is welcome. THX

*custom music will be added later*

Would definitely work on fixing the palette because there isn't a very good gradient right now. And perhaps consider removing these graphical anomalies in the background.

But anyways, I've always wondered, what emulator is that? I like the blurry texture. :3

Noted and thanks for the feedback. That little up arrow will be deleted eventually. Also I might end up going with a still water to fix the empty space under the boat. Still undecided on some of the aesthetics #smw{-_-2}

The idea of this level is interesting but I'm not a big fan of the color palette. I think the background tiles are a bit too saturated. It's hard to tell which of these trees are on the background or foreground layer. I suggest messing around more with colors, try maybe some color gradients or add different shades of similar colors to give the level more depth.

Thanks for the great feedback. Also thanks for playing the level. I will definitely work on the palette more before I upload the updated version.

I think this level is overdecorated. This has 3 palm trees, a layer of water in the bg, bushes everywhere, and a total of 3 foreground floors that makes difficult to know what is solid and whatnot. This has potential to be really pleasing aesthetic wise but you should definetly tweak the palette to make more clear whqt is solid and what no. I would also remove the water of the bg, it would make everything a little less saturated decoration wise.
The patch doesn't work. Tried both headered and unheadered ROMs.

EDIT: It succesfully applied the patch when I patched onto the base ROM instead of the unmodified ROM.

Thanks for the feedback. The palette is a work in progress. The row the palm trees start from are a guide to which is solid and non solid. bottom row of screen solid, second row of screen priority on, third row priority off. You can fall behind the priority on trees to go down a row. Its part of the difficulty of the level. Its not supposed to be easy, its supposed to slow you down in a level where your kind of pressed for time if you can't figure these things out. I will take in to account the amount of decoration though, it may be a bit much. BTW What did you think of the 2nd and 3rd part of the level. Thanks

You should turn off the smoothing filter when taking screenshots.
Check out my hack:
Will do, and thanks for you feedback.

Also if any one has played the level, I would love to get some feedback on the 2nd and 3rd parts of the level. I’ve been getting a lot of feedback on the aesthetics of the intro screen, but not the actual level or gameplay. I value the opinion of the members of the community and wonder what you guys and gals think of the rest of the level. Also please remember the aesthetics are a work in progress. Thanks

Sigh... I have played this level and I agree with others. Aesthetics in this level needs more work. As for gameplay I didn't enjoyed this level. In first section especially I had a problem figuring out what's solid and what's not. It doesn't help that some solid objects become non-solid few screens later and some passable objects become solid few screens later. Also I have problem with time limit. I didn't explore too much and used savestates, but still I received time out message in last section. But the worst is autoscroll section - it's slow and long and there is many enemies appearing out of nowhere. With many enemies game slow down, grinder hides behind decoration, para goombas falling on my head, out of nowhere from walls appearing sparkies and hotheads. This section is really not fun to play. Also the end of this section is confusing - doors are build from 2 green apples? Talk about obvious.

Thanks for playing through the level and giving some really good feedback! I'm currently adjusting the palette and aesthetics of the level. I ask did you read the info box and was it helpful. Its supposed to hint at how to spot the solid and non solid trees also it tells you to pay attention to berry colors and time. The level is made to be difficult and a press for time. The second part is more of a survival thing and also a time killer on purpose. The level is not built to be completed on the first run because that would be to easy which is why there are things to learn about the design. Also its called Blitz because you are pressed for time, its a theme to the level. By the way there are things to help with the time if power ups are used right, used the enemies creatively or if you find the hidden Yoshi. The key is to get through the first section as fast as possible which the info box hints at and you earn after playing the level once or twice.

I don't remember if I read the message box. If it was on main path, then probably. But my big, personal problem is that I'm not really reading messages, I'm just looking at them for 1 second.

Also after reading your comment I realized that you contradict yourself. On one hand you expect player to speedrun your level, on another hand you expect player to look for hidden powerups and Yoshi. This doesn't work together very well.

The power ups are not hidden only the Yoshi and it’s not hard to find if you read the hint box. It also provides a way to help with the time if you use it right. The hint box is very important to the level.
