Things in video games you always saw wrong

No lie; when I was younger, I was so stupid that I sometimes found it very hard to play songs on Ocarina of Time. The reason being is because I knew that the notes are played with C buttons up, down, left, right, and blue button A; but I couldn't read which directions the C buttons were indicating.

Initially, when looking at this I saw diagonally up right, diagonally down left, diagonally up left, diagonally up right, diagonally down left, right.

So imagine expecting horizontal or vertical directions, but instead getting diagonals thrown at you. #w{x(}

oh woah

I've actually never interpreted them that way but now that you say it, I can see exactly what you mean by that.

...for some reason the C-buttons kinda look like airships from an Atari game too when I view them diagonally.
I know right. I also used to see that firefighter helmet from Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse as a red bird's head, with a beak. Picture.

Maybe this thread is very telling about how our brains make sense of unclear shapes and then associate that unclear blurr with what ever we came to understand it originally, until we're given more information on it. A little bit like how we get paradolia from things that barely resemble a human face.

Obviously these artists knew it was low resolution, limited colours going to be stretched on a blurry CRT, so brains would have to make guesses on an unclear image anyway.

I always thought that when you have only a 4th of a watermelon left in DK64, that it looks inverted (the pink inside looks like it's the outside, and the green shell looks like it's the inside)

In Super Mario Land 2, I couldn't tell that these enemies were supposed to be toy soldiers. I always saw the big black space on its head and assumed it was some sort of mask, and that the rim on its hat was a beak, making it some sort of alien or creature .
in pokemon gold/silver i thought bugsy was a girl and claire was a guy. VERY weird...

That arm looks like this Adventure Island 1 guy's mouth

I can see the confusion

I used to see level 105's hills as skyscrapers. I think it was due to their height and the unobvious color of them.
