This is really old, but

So I just came across this hack while I was browsing through the hacks section, and I'm curious as to what the moderators were thinking with this one:

Another Mario Hack

I am aware that this was originally submitted in 2008, and was remoderated in 2015 I guess? So it's wildly late for me to be asking this question, but I really don't see why this hack was accepted (as Counterfeit so eloquently put it in the reviews). I played it, and it is far below the usual standards for Mario hacks that are accepted here.

Was this (2015, or whenever it was moderated originally) just a lazy time for hack moderators or something? And why is the hack still up?

The remoderation at that time mostly served to check which hacks wouldn't work on accurate emulators due to custom music issues caused by AM4, which later led to a community project to fix said hacks to work on them. It was not a remoderation to remove hacks that didn't meet the vastly changed standards.

The hack is still there because it was accepted when the standards were different, so, for history (saying it vaguely as I don't remember the detailed reasons anymore).
That makes sense, thanks Mirann!

But in that case, wouldn't it make sense to do away with massively dated hacks that no longer fit the modern standards of smwcentral? Setting aside how it plays or looks, we can just look at it technically too. All of those hacks would obviously have dated, possibly broken music and patches added to them that break the hack in accurate emulators (unless something like randomdude's sneeze9x entirely deals with that sort of problem). And do they not also just create unnecessary clutter in the back end of the hacks section?

no because the standards always change and youd have to cycle hacks all the frickin time. and yeah the historical aspect is important. they dont go nuking the hall of fame for sports every other season because rules change, do they? if you made it in, then you made it in. congrats

they dont clutter much anyways
The only way to justify going back and removing any old hack for quality is with a remoderation, and I don't think that's a compelling enough reason for a remoderation.

This is 100% still in because it got grandfathered in. That's okay though because the hacks section has greater interest in being a repository than the resource sections.
