Originally posted by EarthPhantomTSOh hey, something else I'm wondering about, that's maybe tangentially related, but I'm wondering all the same: you got any cute pics of Wakana? I ask cause I rather like her design.
Aside from the ones in the hack made by Skewer (the one in titlescreen and the one in stage clear screen), there are none of them, aside from like 2-3 fan arts people did of her in Twitter, and some early concepts of her drawn by me when I was younger, which are bad and I don't feel like sharing them (I even lost them, I think, lol).
And no, the avatars I use aren't pics of Wakana. They''re either recolors or pics of girls which resemble her (I often pick Suzuya from Kancolle, like the one in my Twitter, or Kochiya Sanae, like the one in my YT).
Originally posted by EarthPhantomTSAlso, I'm curious how you did the Who Wants to be a Millionaire level ("J. Scotty Presents..." I believe it's called?). Since it's so different from the rest of the game, I mean.
These levels have a few parts mixed together:
- The cursor is a sprite you can find in the sprites section. I used Romi's version, and edited its code a lot so that the buggy diagonals movements didn't happen, and I had to add some code to make it slower on a button press, like the Touhou focus mode (the cursor and the undertale heart are the same sprite btw);
- Clicking on the questions is pretty much custom blocks made by me: if a button is pressed while being inside the block, do something (in this case, die on wrong question, teleport on screen exit if correct). Questions are also randomized (in the build submitted in the site): each question is picked out of 4 possible ones; everything is decided by the frame counter, which is the less annoying pseudo-random value I could think of.
- Graphics are just rips taken with the tool SNESPNG. For the level structure, I made sure you couldn't die from pressing the cursor against the edges of the screen. This issue happened in previous betas. Obviously, it has been fixed with appropriately custom blocks, coded by me as well.
Side note, the "J.Scotti" part of the title stands for Jerry Scotti (or Gerry Scotti), which is the italian showman who presented and did questions in the italian "who wants to be a millionaire".
Originally posted by EarthPhantomTSAlso also, I'm wondering how you made it so the "The Nightmare *gibberish*" level includes a glitchy simulacrum of the title screen and a dark intro stage and map screen and such. Cause if I didn't know better, I'd never guess that was all one level!
That one level there is indeed an entire level. All you see is a mix of ASM pretty much. The "creepy overworld" is actually a pic ripped with SNESPNG again, and the walking Wakana is a 16x16 tile which is on layer 1 (overworld is on layer 2). Deaths are also fake, since true deaths would bring you to the true overworld. With asm, I made deaths teleport you on the fake map instead.
