Some Super Mario Bros. 3 Hack Demo Release + Darkwing Hack Preview

Misc. HackingDemoScreenshots

I'm terrible at introductions.

Yeah, I'm working on some SMB.3 hack, that currently is unnamed.

(current) FEATURES:
-4 Finished levels, untill fortress level.
-Unedited OW! (for now at least)
-Tricky and challengy platforming!
-Quick death hijack, so you don't have to wait for standart death animation when you die (now I need to figure out how to disable OW "skidding")

Screenshots:
1-1

Tricky platforming ft. Everyone's favorite boomerang bros!
No, not really.

1-2

It's based on a glitch where if you walk off the ledge while in Kuribo shoe, you can jump in mid-air! It's used only twice though. And this level is pretty short.
Every level is short if you think about it.

1-3

Castle enemies outside? Sure.

1-4

Some REALLY hot action! Literally... uses the same moving and falling platforms from original level and adds burners to the mix.

Now, here's download link for demo!

NOTE: Patch to PRG0 rom.

Darkwing Hack Preview Here

Believe it or not, I used to enjoy SMB3 hacks a lot, but when I tried to hack the game by myself I realized it was funnier to me to play hacks rather than do them.

It's really hard to do an attractive hack after that hack which left the rod very high (Mario Adventure or something), but you're actually well on track, judging by the screens your hack seems more traditional, so that's a good point.

Good luck with the hack!

This hack was pretty fun, but 1-4 has a platform that appears like, at the last minute, and in your first playthrough (at least mine) you'll likely be dead/be falling to the bottomless pit at that moment. Other than that, I enjoyed the levels.

Cool man, I have a few friends that are top notch smb3 hackers if you need help.

I mean, nobody prevents you from making vanilla hacks, it's basically the same as making vanilla SMW hack. It's hard to make them attractive, but they still can be enjoyable.

Thanks!

I thought all of them are last minute platforms... which specific platform you're referring to? As far as I remember some sprites didn't spawn at certain positions, so it may be hard to move platform closer. Or easy, IDK.

For now I need to disable skidding to speed up death process a little, otherwise I'm cool for now. Thanks for offering!

-----------------------------------

Staying on topic of misc. hacking, since Chip'n dale hack is dead I decided to try hacking another capcom game - Darkwing Duck!

Slightly edited title screen:

I didn't make much progress, first level is like, only four or so screens done. Here's what I have for now

These screenshots look actually pretty interesting. The SMB3 ones almost look like a Kaizo: Light challenge and therefore it could be quite entertaining for me (it would be something different from the usual SMW Kaizos). #tb{:DD}

The Darkwing hack looks pretty cool, too. There's not much finished so far perhaps, but it looks like you were really working on it, so in the end, i think, something very enjoyable may com out of that, too. #tb{:]}

I'll get the channel address Russ. man, mari42 is probably a good one to ask.
I haven't played SMB3 in ages, but it's still interesting to see people creating such hacks. The screenshots look promising and entertaining.

I'm not too familiar with Darkwing and its mechanics, but the hack seems pretty cool so far. I assume the hack name is currently not decided as well?

Can't wait for more!

Yeah, it's challengy. It's like hard/very hard difficulty.

I hope so. I already have a few interesting ideas that may work.

Darkwing Hack is my hack's name, a hack of Darkwing Duck. Which proves that I'm creative at naming my things.
For mechanics, it's basically Mega Man. Not much to say, really.

Thanks #tb{:j}

So, firstly, the SMB3 hack looks pretty neat. It's a Kaizo hack, so I can't really play it, but it looks really good! Though tile limits can definitely be seen in some of these screenshots, so mabey some entities can be removed to lessen or remove that issue. Anyways, the ideas for each of the stages are pretty smart- especially the one for 1-2 and 1-4! Though for 1-2, mabey the idea could be focused on more- since the description for this stage does state that the idea is only implemented in twice across the stage. Anyways, progress here looks like it's going well. I hope this development continues well, and I'm interested to see how this comes out!

Now, secondly, the Darkwing Duck hack. I've never heard of this game before, but from the graphics, it appears to be an NES title. And judging from the progress of the 1st level being 4 screens long, this must be a really early hack. Though it does look interesting and appears a little challenging. I'm interested to see how this comes out, and I hope development for this hack goes well.

Sheesh, it's not a kaizo hack. Not in the slightest. It does have a few precision moments, but it's more than doable without savestates and stuff.

There will be flickering at some places, it's inevitable. But it's possible to reduce it. For example it's clearly visible on 1-4's second screenshot, but moving one of platforms down a bit and they won't flicker.

Only problem I see is that I can hit object limit (yes, it's more limited than, what, SMW? Hmph), though it's probably more because I'm lazy, I don't have much ideas and I don't want to make it a super long level.

It's more like I didn't work on it for ages XP

Thanks for your reply!

Put some effort into your comments. If the most impressive thing you can say about a hack is that it exists, don't comment, because you're clearly only doing it for points.
