Minor Coding Suggestions

Link Thread Closed
as it stands, if you try to search for a tag that doesn't exist, it just ignores it and returns what your other search terms on their own would give, even if you add a + prefix. a warning message at the very least would be appreciated

also, a more convenient method of viewing the valid tags than the submission page (which can't be viewed by guests)

The first sounds weird, I'll look into it as soon as possible.

The second one brings into question the tagging system in general, which is actually something the staff has tried to discuss a while ago. It might be a better idea to discuss this in, say, Site Questions & Bugs because the coding part is the smallest problem in this case.
We should have a SMW Levels Section on the site.
We...do though??? It's the Hacks section. Unless you're talking about a section to host individual level .mwl files or something like that, which sounds entirely useless since people aren't making levels with the intent to put them up for others to use publicly. And one level hacks are still considered hacks so they go in the Hacks section.
No the BPS ones.
What BPS ones? Are you saying we should host .bps files containing single levels? Because that would make even *less* sense than hosting .mwl files since .mwl files don't require patching and are a much more efficient and useful way of exporting single levels than a .bps patch ever would be.
People will be able to play them.
There is no point in hosting individual levels. I don't see many people being interested in that and nothing prevents you from sharing them in a showoff thread.
Yeah, people aren't making levels that aren't associated with hacks or contests and looking to host them for others to publicly download and use.

Unless....are you trying to ask for a section for people to upload their individual contest submissions so everyone can find them more easily than looking through old contest submission threads? Because that's the only long shot situation where I can think of people making levels outside hacks.
I was talking about contest entries. If people have time to make a level they can.
You should have mentioned that from the start...

Even with this knowledge, I still don't think such a section would be in very high demand. People interested in playing the levels usually just go download them from the contest submission threads. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the impression I've always gotten.
This discussion could be merged with the tech demo discussion I feel like. If you imagine a section for minor playables, both levels and tech demos would fit in it.
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
Would it be possible for you guys to make all of the fields where you type something when searching for a specific resource (e.g. a custom block or a custom sprite's name, author, tags, or description) no longer case sensitive, please? I find it just a little bit odd that some of those fields are case sensitive (like the one where you can put in the author if desired), and others aren't.
What do you mean by that? Having to know one's full name and its capitalization? Yeah, it's annoying having something like that so I support having it amended.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. It's a minor annoyance to me, though it still is something I wish wasn't an issue here when searching for specific resources.
Hm, I noticed it seems to not be case-sensitive for the Name field, but it is case-sensitive for the Author field. That's really strange. One way or another we should have consistency in how the search function works, and I agree that removing the case-sensitivity would be best.
Sorry for responding so late, I was busy and didn't have time to file it. Anyhow, this has been a problem for a long time. I've filed this as issue #92 and I should be able to fix it by Saturday.
Case-insentivity isn't enough of a solution to the problem in my opinion. If I forget someone's full name or want to look for hacks/resources by authors who have the exact same part of the name, I won't be able to find it without looking for the usernames in Member List. Is this fix also possible at the moment?

It'd be a lot trickier, but it shouldn't be too hard. I'll reopen issue so I can revisit it when I can.
Wouldn't be surprised if this was brought up at some point, but it'd be nice to have the Link and Quote options in section comments. I know for a fact that each comment has its own site address, so I'm guessing it shouldn't be too hard to implement Link?
