edit - 2019-01-17:
Just finished an other port. Since C3 isn't entirely over i thought i could post it here.

Secret of Mana ~ Flight into the Unknown

SPCYouTube

You are gonna find 2 things here. Some ridiculous videos about porting exercises and also some finished ports. Read more below:

Finished Ports:
Please keep in mind I'm an absolute beginner to porting (started december - more info below). Therefore I'm asking you, if you think that the quality meets smwc's todays standards and i should submit them or if i should delete these ports again, since they are pretty amateurish in the end. Without any further words.

HERES A ZIP PACK

For the guys, who want to give it a listen before downloading - YouTube links:

Thanks to all my friends, which gave me feedback on my ports, especially Wakana and Izuna. You all helped me lots, improving in this short period of time!! #w{<3}

But that's not all!!
My "Porting Diary":

To make it short: I started to learn porting during my Xmas holidays. Yes, i've only been listening to ports so far and i eventually wanted to learn it. So i asked Wakana, if he could guide me into the world of porting. Thankfully my cutie was kind enough to prepare some lessons for me and following Wakana's Tutorial plus his advises i've learnt to port on a good level quite quickly.

"But what's the diary mentioned above?"
- Simple answer: I saved all my exercises i did (just the results, not the progress of transcribing notes). All of them are linked beyond. Personally i'd only watch session 6, since it's the only one, which contains full songs and not only a few silly melodies (or just some random notes). But it's up to you~

• Session 1
• Session 2
• Session 3
• Session 4
• Session 5
• Session 6
• Session 7

All of these are actually pretty well done. If I'd be laughing, I'm laughing at the fact that these are some of your first ports and they're good.

Bravo, maybe you will be Wakana's echo fighter soon.

This is great, I also want to learn on how to port so this will be incredible useful for me! Thanks a lot! #tb{:D}
It's nothing to laugh at, it's a very nice start :3

If I didn't know you I wouldn't call you a newbie lol
I really like the ports of the Street Fighter 2, Guile theme.

It sounds better now.

Thanks for your compliments. The latter is definitely a goal i'll try to aim for, even if that will take an eternity to reach~

I don't know, if this is really "incredibly useful", but i think it at least makes clear, that you should start simple and be patient until you get to a point, where you actually have the skill to port your fav music.

Thanks. Since it wasthe latest song i ported i probably had a bit more experience than for e.g. the Bubble crab one~

Bubble crab sounds so much better than the old one used in Super Mario Thing.
Give thanks to RPG hacker for working on Asar.

I like the ASMT's version more. Not because it's good (it's not), but because I'm used to it.

That said, those ports are great, I think they definitely could be submitted to SMW Central. Even if they get rejected, I'm pretty sure experienced music mods will help you improve your ports.

Porting was much harder when ASMT was developed. Nowadays we have AddmusicK, which makes porting relatively easy. But back then all the porting tool were either buggy or incomplete, so it isn't surprising if the quality back then was worse.

That aside i thank you two for your kind words. From what i experienced music mods are quite kind guys and therefore i could indeed ask for help there, too. Thanks for that advise xfix.

Considering that you've just started learning how to port you're doing really well. You have a lot of improvements to make, sure, but considering you didn't start that long ago you're doing VERY good. If you keep going in this direction you're only gonna get better and better.
You're probably the only person I know, who got so insanely good with porting in such a short amount of time.
When you shared that Live-a-Live port to me for the first time, I couldn't believe my ears. Your dedication and mood to learn every day more really made you go so far already. I'm really proud of you.
I personally hope you'll keep the motivation going: you have great potential to become a great porter.
Keep going wildly, my angel! #fim{<3}
Hey, for being a "beginner" they sounds good enough. You learned fast, well done.

That even music mods compliment me for my ports makes me really happy. I thought they might still sound too silly compared to the quality of nowadays ports, but reading your kind words definitely gives me confidence and motivation to continue improving my skills. #tb{:j}

Well, practicing (almost) every single day surely was a ton of effort, but i'm glad the result payed off. I do my best to improve with every single new port i do.

Without your patience and your passionate explanations this would have never been possible. I have to thank you so much, for being a perfect teacher to me!! #fim{<3}

Thank you for your words, too. I would've never thought my thread would gain that much attention, but i'm very glad you all like. #tb{:j}

I looooooveee both Street Fighter ports, since they're the two songs I'm most familiar with, especially how well they manage to capture the feel of the original games with SMW's instruments. There are so many little touches that make the ports sound great, like the @2 (music box/twinkly sound) in the background in Vega's theme. I've never heard Live a Live's OST, but the blend of @17 (distortion guitar) with @9 (piano) goes together soooo well, and the instrumentation in general is just fantastic. Finally, Bubble Crab's theme reminds me of those infamous old Japanese ports, but much nicer, probably because of the echo. Overall, they are really good ports!!

I think those ports are decent, especially for beginner. Street Fighter II Guile port sounds the best in my opinion, especially in comparison with what we have in section currently. You defenitely should continue training and porting songs. Good luck!

Those ports sound really good. Especially considering you just started with porting.
I'm really interested in your future work!
Keep up the good work #tb{:]}

Thank you for your comment. Even if i just started porting recently i've already learnt what difference little details can make (actually this is pretty similar to level design #tb{:DD}). You also experienced how a port can change only by applying an echo effect. I'm really glad and honoured, that i became an inspiration to you with this. <3

Thanks to you, too for your kind words. That you prefer my version over a version that already exists, means lots to me, especially since it was my main aim, to make something better, than that old version. I'm glad i was successful with that, too. #tb{:j}

Thanks NGB. It feels always special, if a friend appreciates your work, too. I'm glad you like these ports, too and i hope i'll come up with many more in future. #tb{:]}

That Guile theme reminds me of the Guile's Theme Goes with Everything meme.

Also, good luck on porting more songs, Sariel!
