TotMK Graphics Showcase #3: This is essentially my personal #showoff

Well, once again I have nothing else to show for my hard work except for my graphics. Well, kind of. I have done some major and minor changes to the stuff I've drawn, so...why not just do something for C3 instead of nothing?

Anyone who remember this glorious prehistoric mountain tileset can see that I've added an additional "night" version to it. I've also updated the lava falls so they flow in a fancier way.

I'm also working on a level with this tileset, and with the new Lunar Magic additions, having Yoshi's Island-style levels. Very slowly, though. See the image here.

Anyone who has been watching me since the last C3, on #showoff, or in my hack thread might recognize this from last C3. It's the sky and floating tileset, of course! Internet, where's my Corridors of Time remix?

Link
Okay, it's kind of a cheap shot, but I have to take it: I updated the desert tileset a bit.

Now, THIS beautiful background. I've shown this one of the previous C3's, but back then, it was incomplete. Well, not anymore, it's not. Now it's fabulous, all in its Layer 3 glory!

Did I ever show this off before? Yeah, I think I have, but I'll show it again anyway. Also, I really need to update those beanstalk leaves...

This is a grassland that's been charred, and destroyed. All I need to finish the decorations are dead trees on the foreground, and background.

Link 1 Link 2
I'm still working on that prehistoric jungle tileset I showed last year, except I've also created one taking place in the swamp. Enjoy, for the time being, while I create some branches and bushes...

This is purely a test in a special abstract theme. It's based on the Bitlands from Super Paper Mario, one of my many childhood games. Should I keep going with this strange theme?

Of course, tilesets and backgrounds aren't the only thing I've been doing...I've also been drawing sprites! I've got quite a few to show, so enjoy.

A BEE?!?!

You can't have a desert level without a Fire Snake.

Or a Gao, for that matter.

It's-a me, Mario!

Peachy~

And now, for something completely different: I've finally started a level (besides the prehistoric mountain one I linked above) with some of these resources. Here's some teaser screenshots of a desert level called Shifting Stoneworks, which features the Gao, Fire Snake, and eventually Boomerang and Fire Bros. The gimmick is, again, platforms that shift in and out of the wall, meaning you'll need to time your jumps carefully. I apologize for the lack of gradient and for the ugly-looking Mario; these screenshots are a bit outdated since this was before I implemented the sky gradient.

But, if it's any consolation, the last screenshot shown is up to date on my graphics and aesthetics!

Okay, am I done here, now? Yes? Good...Whew... Feel free to leave your comments, because they are always appreciated.

I've seen some screenshots of your work in the discord but I'm still really impressed by the work you've done here. You're an amazing graphics artist and I can't wait to see what else you create.

Do you plan on releasing any of this stuff after you release TotMK?
The graphics look astonishing, hope you can find good use for them.
Those graphics look outstanding, you've certainly got a lot of skill as a pixel art creator.

Can't wait to play the hack you're using them for.
For gaming news and Wario discussions, check out Gaming Reinvented and Wario Forums respectively.

As for Mario's Nightmare Quest? Well, it's currently on Fusion Gameworks, ROM Hacking.net or the GCN at the moment.
Shocking that you chose Peach as your fighter. Anyway:
You certainly love to show these off, although for good reason - they're really high quality stuff. The beanstalks don't quite fit in with the rest of these 'grittier' graphics, but I expect it'll be as impressive as the rest when they are finished. I suggest trying to have some bending to the stalks, instead of being a straight line upwards.

Your backgrounds are especially impressive, and your layer 3 drawing skills are second-to-none. Wherever this hack goes, it'll be something damned impressive.

Other Submissions of mine!
These are all pretty good! The floating islands in particular are excellent.
If I have anything negative to say, it's just echoing Deeke's statement about the beanstalks.

Trust me, you're not the first one to ask that. Sadly, the answer is no. They'll be for my own hacks only.

Why, thank you. It took years of practice to learn how to draw things.

Wow, it's almost like she's my waifu.
Anyway, thanks for the comments! I was indeed going to work on left and right-curved beanstalks so they can move left or right, since I have enough room for that in my cloud tileset. Also, I'm aware of how realistic my tilesets are, making that sky tileset a bit garish, but don't worry, I'll make sure each world or area has a consistent visual tone.

Glad you like the beanstalks.

Now, as a little bonus, here's my little (somewhat failed) attempt at a tree for the Prehistory area, with no shading or details on it as of now. Help and advice could help me get through this doozy, trying to perfect a tree.

Pretty as usual, I like your volcanic tileset the most, since I feel the most love has went into that one. (though the sunset clouds come close because i'm biased to sunsets lol)
Been wonderful to watch your graphical prowess improve over the years, and knowing you'll only keep improving is even better. I've already seen most of this in #showoff, but god I still love those sky and floating tileset pictures. Such wonderful palette choices all around and your attention to detail is remarkable.
You have a lot of backgrounds with alternate times of day. Can they animate to simulate a day-night cycle? That'd look pretty af, considering how good they look already. You've done a really good job with these, especially the desert.

Still, this is the best one in my opinion:

allow shy guy emojis in post footers you cowards!
Your graphics thread is always something i look forward to during the C3s. Your work is pretty as usual and especially the second tileset's clouds look phenomenal. I wonder how much work it must've been to pixel these? However, i don't want to focus too much on them, since the other graphics are beautiful as well. Good job as always and keep it up #tb{:j}

This is really wonderfull, with both foregrounds and backgrounds so backgrounds.
The palettes are interesting as well, and they even merge with the cloud there.
These graphics look incredible! I'm pretty sure the tilesets and backgrounds took such a long while to make. Defientatily have to applaud you, Falconpunch, for this work! And yes, Fullcannon, I do agree that these "Floating Island" Tilesets looks wonderful. The palettes and details in these sets are beyond outstanding; it's as if this was ripped from an indie game. I especially like the little details- such as the roots on the ceiling and the lighting on each version of the tileset.

Haha, I'm most proud of that tileset, along with the desert and floating island ones. Thank you. #smrpg{y}

Thanks for your thoughts, Von Fahrenheit. As for the day/night cycle, no, I'm afraid they do not, as they were intended for seperate levels. But hey, that's not a bad idea. If I get the ASM needed, I could make a few levels change their palette and aesthetics from day to night, or vice versa!

And as for that oriental background, I'm happy you love it. I love it, too. The wonders of how you can create a background with only Layer 3 and an HDMA gradient.

Haha, it looks like I've got a new fan favorite tileset this C3. Last time, it was the prehistoric mountain/volcano tileset, and now this year it's the ice age sky/floating islands/zeal-esque set. I'm really happy you guys really the aesthetics of that tileset. The clouds weren't easy to make, but I did it. The funny thing is: I haven't even finished the entire background yet! I still need to draw some layer 2 floating islands in the background, yet you guys still love it better than the prehistoric mountains.

Now, I've been working on another sprite since these sprite request threads have been giving me inspiration. It's a frog princess, made specifically for the medieval levels. It will hop around the field in different fashions. I haven't made its other 2 frames, but this is what I got so far.

Basically, my ideas with this enemy is similar to the Crash 3's frogs in the medieval levels, if it manages to kill you, it'll play a unique death animation where it would kiss your character forcefully on the ground and revert the frog back into this:

Isn't she cute? #wario{<3}

Well, this is a really unique idea for a sprite! I would've never thought of such a sprite- moreover a death animation like what you've just described! And if this is being planned for a hack, I'm really interested to see how this comes out; the idea of a medieval-themed world is defiantly uncommon in the SMW-hacking scene, and how this would be intertwined in a story would be even more so. Definitely interested in this!

... And yeah, that princess is indeed cute-looking.
Espcially that grin! So neat =)
The graphics are pretty awesome! I'm genuinely impressed with your work.

How different are the night/day GFXs? I think they can be merged into a single one and using ASM dynamically make them switch and have a super badass night/day cycling level!

Also consider animating some of the backgrounds, specially the night/aurora ones, you can make them look extremely shiny.

Take a look on this page. Click "Show Options" to you look how the palette animations and play a bit with each of the background. It even includes an animated aurora boreal. And these animations are 100% palette based, so no additional tiles are even required. If you manage to replicate this trick on your graphics and makes animations of out it, they will definitely look superb.

Excellent job!

The floating island tilesets IS FUCKING AMAZING! Seriously,I'm very impressed about that. Can't say less about the other ones, everything here looks really well done.

Holy cow. Both the floating island and the skies are super beautiful.

I remember seeing that last level's background in #showoff and saying that I want that on my ceiling. Like, for real, if I could, I'd sleep under those night skies of yours.

All these tilesets are pretty dope :O the SML sprites are a nice old-school reference too. :D
Those all look cute. I'm impressed by the backgrounds you drew in the floating island tileset, my personal favorite being the one with the aurora. The rest are also great.
As for your hack, I look forward to seeing gameplay footage of it, or more level screenies.
