Though I'm curious about BLDC, what this abbreviation means

What if it stands for "Big Level Design Contest"? What if we have to make a level that uses custom level dimensions?

I said this before and I stand by it more than ever: I think VLDC is a brand that needs to retire. Now definitions of vanilla are even more discussable, and I'd be more than happy to honestly just not have any need to classify something as vanilla or not in the first place.
If we are to have something like VLDC (no custom resources contest), I think we should at the very least rename it.
Mostly a semantics concern but yeah.

I agree with this. Honestly, I think that VLDC should be fused with CLDC to create one grand SMWC site-wide level creation contest (with no compilation). The OLDC serves can serve the function of "restrictions enabling creativity" (with a compilation too) but that contest should be slightly revamped to make it less boring
I'd be happy with VLDCX being the final VLDC of all time and everything else being either OLDC or CLDC (or other varied contests).

the compilation is still going to come out one day in the future right?
hohohoho don't mind me just dropping a friendly reminder for any potential vldc judges that the new version of lunar magic lets you use even more secret exits
we're well aware hahahaha

You, sir, are a genius.
The name VLDC is just too iconic to up and abandon altogether. But recycling it would be perfect. #smrpg{:D}

It's hard to believe that C3 starting in 7 days.
Instead of vldc (which had a good run) how about some 24hldc contests to sort of showoff lm3.0?
It gives a brighter aspect on it and 24hldc doesnt get attention anyways. What if it was a monthly thing?

And maybe a graphics contest or two spread apart

Can we also get a Mad Scientist 2 contest?
Monthly 24hr contests can't be a thing. We usually don't want multiple similar contests running at the same time, or contests running alongside similar site events (like any SMW hacking contest alongside C3).

That said, roughly half of January is open. a 24hr contest could slot in there quite nicely.
We should have a kaizo contest in either June or August (would say July but C3), that way those of us who are in school could have an easier time getting our entries done and done well.
I promise you there will be a KLDC next year. I'm not gonna speculate which month just yet, but those months you mentioned are good enough.

Seriously if there is a kaizo contest then please do not do something like in 2017 with the retry patch. I want something new

What exactly are you talking about?
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?

He's talking about the patch that allows you to retry the level when you die.

EDIT: GOTTEM I misunderstood
But that's not his point.

I say that every Kaizo contest is the same. (Build a level that is possible without saves)

It gets boring in my opinion, I want something new.
But well
Chocolate Kaizo Level Design Contest maybe? Not many Kaizo hacks use chocolate resources outside of Phantos and Metroids.

Disagreed. "Build a level that's possible without saves" is barely restrictive at all. By "something new" you can only mean levels that are not possible without tools - but the audience for those kinds of levels is extremely niche in comparison (basically TASers and people who just like to watch stages). Besides, what's disadvantageous about making your stages RTA-viable? You can make it a spectacle and a fun challenge as well, can't you?

But well

I understand your point and all, but I don't think that's really boring by itself. Several people have been popping on the scene and preferring playing RTA-viable hacks over the more intricate and "done without tools" ones such as yours. Even then, you can still build these stages if you test them a lot savestateless. I think I can make the next KLDC not have a difficulty setting (or maybe the opposite), but always have that in mind.
