The GIEPY Standardization Project

why are people afraid to TAKE ACTION. not ever minor move needs the approval of the entire staff. if they disapprove then they can just revert, easy peazy
The FAQ and the tips are not my responsibility (to be honest, I'm not actually sure whose responsibility they are). If they were something I had definitive control over, I'd change them immediately. That's not the case here.

(there may or may not have been a past incidents where a small change based on a suggestion caused walls of discussion)
if you have access, then you do have responsibility, whether youre in charge of it or not

(im assuming you have access. if you dont then lel just ignore this)
Thanks for the heads up MFG. Fortunately I was using a testing ROM so re-installing wasn't really a big problem.

As a serious question: is this current version of GIEPY stable with SA-1? I feel this has been replied before, but I'm not sure.

About the tip, eh... I'd say remove it, but at the same time, this site is technically still suporting PIXI (until the day GIEPY becomes oficial at least) so I don't know. Editing it wouldn't hurt either. Not a big deal if you ask me.

For most SA-1 ROMs, it works perfectly as long as your sprites are also compatible. The one caveat is that it doesn't support 6 or 8MB ROMs due to the way it internally manages the ROM. The master branch of its GitHub repository theoretically fixed that, but we haven't been able to compile it yet.
I guess I'm out of the loop, granted I agree all along I thought pixi was forced rather quickly. I don't really understand why people say it's broken. I kinda feel like I heard this last time with Sprite tool.

Well that's because it is. If it worked for you and me as much as we needed it to that's fantastic, but you must've seen a lot of people run into trouble all around, especially programmers.
It's not like SpriteTool was good in that respect either; sprites were way bigger than they needed to due to lack of a way to import routines, and it used an old assembler which made coding way less comfortable.
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
No I never noticed.i recall saying it's broken but never really saying why. But anyway last time I tried giepy it just crashed when I opened it, I suppose it's come along way since then.
Well, yes, as Koopster said, it WAS broken. To be honest, I never proved by myself why it was, but indeed, I saw a lot of people complaining about it and stuff. As Telinc said in this post, it seemed to be related to the "per-level sprites" feature and some Asar bugs (which as you can read, are all fixed now).

The horizon looks clearer with GIEPY, I must say. It's not a coincidence that I decided to give a new oportunity to smw hacking just because this tool is almost done and better in almost every aspect to the previous sprite tools. Taking advantage of the words, I must thank to the current ASM team, which (I'm sure) they're working hard to make this change an actual improvement to the smw hacking, and not a disarray which was PIXI.

Are there any updates for GIEPHY?
Is it possible to be released in Tools section now?

Telinc is still working in the tool so it'll have a stable enough release in order to be submitted in the Tools section. All we have to do is wait.

No need for posts like these when there's nothing to talk about. It makes it look like you're posting for the sake of seeing your postcount numbers increase.
Sorry for the hasty question, but I need to ask if GIEPY is going to be updated soon™ like the other tools already updated, or does we have to wait a bit more?

I'll be ready soon enough. I've known about Lunar Magic 3.0 for long enough to update GIEPY, but the preparations for C3 have been taking me quite a while.
So I can imagine the release of the new LM has delayed the standardization of GIEPY by a considerable margin considering it's incompatible. Will there's be continued work to make sure that GIEPY becomes compatible?

The reason why GIEPHY's new version would be released after of C3 Winter.
Am i right, Telinc1?

There are many cool sprites to be used in hacks and i'm wondering if waiting the new version GIEPHY would take an eternity or not.

Would i use the old versions (before LM 3.0) of Lunar Magic with the current version of GIEPHY?
C3 was the intended estimate, not a guarantee. The preparations for the event itself and general lack of free time prevented me from finishing GIEPY in time.

I saw that some of the sprites are being converted to PIXI by Erik upon its aproval on the sprites section (the ones he moderates), so I suggest to take a look at the sprites section and see if any of the ones you would like to use are converted as a temporary solution. I myself finally converted some of my C3 sprites to PIXI, so if you need some of them you can download them from my filebin.
GIEPY 1.1.0, featuring Lunar Magic 3.00 support. It's been tested with both LoROM and SA-1 and I haven't yet found major problems.

Apart from supporting Lunar Magic 3.00, this version also fixes two oversights discovered by Darolac (a bug in the sprite spawning library and a bug in the tweaks) and the reinstallation bug. You can now safely re-install the system patch at any time. In fact, I recommend it because it hijacks the new sprite loader, which in itself is a hijack.

If you use Lunar Magic 3.00's new features on a ROM, the game will crash at the title screen unless you reinstall the system patch (see above) afterward. As usual, keep backups, too.

I still will maintain GIEPY, but I'm no longer in a position to convert the sprites section. I will talk to the new team leaders to see what their plans are and will provide help for them if they decide not to cancel this project.
