Changing Palette

Well, here is the small issue:

How can I change the fire palette without changing at the same time part of the background palette? Thanks!
Two possibilities: Open the Map16 editor and either change the palette of the background or make a copy of the lava tiles and change its palette.
The problem is, that changing BG palette would look weird, and I only want to change the fire palette, but when I change it, BG changes too. Do I need YY-CHR or something like that?
The tile's palette (that is basically which row the tile uses in the palette), not the level's palette. Why else would I have recommended to use the Map16 editor? Though you still need to edit the level's palette to move the BG or lava's colour into a different palette row.
Oh, I understand now. I will do that. Thanks MFG!
EDIT: I've been experimenting a bit with some concepts and palettes and here is a test picture.

What do you think?
Looks a little eye searing, but you've got the right idea for sure.

Thanks for the review Adamatrix! About that, what can I do to make a less eyesearing palette?
Still experimenting Rainbow Man haha, I'm a newbie with palettes.

I know this one can be eyesearing, but I'm thinking of a better palette. Recommendations are welcomed. Thanks!
SMW's lava palette is dark/red on the inside and yellow at the top/edges. What you did just looks weird.
Yeah now the palette looks kinda eh.

You had the right idea before. Just make the red slightly darker, maybe, if you weren't intending to use the original SMW lava palette like MarioFanGamer was describing.

MFG: In an abstract world, everything is possible haha, but in this case is weird, I agree. Thanks for you review!
Adamatrix: Yeah, I changed the inside to red again as MFG said, although I think the yellow part I have tried need some improvement from my point of view. Here it is a new version of the fire palette. Suggestions are welcomed and appreciated!

In this cave section from the first level, I tried making a palette manually, using the multicolored star symbol in LM, you know what I mean haha. Here it is. Feedback appreciated!

You have the right idea with the red/yellow colors, but I'd recommend smoothing the transition between them; sharp changes in color don't usually look great. The original lava, for instance, uses some orange tones to join the two:

LM has a built-in gradient joiner, which you can activate by holding alt and right-clicking the two colors you want to smooth between.
Though, I personally recommend using a color picker like this one to get a LAB or LCH color gradient instead, as Lunar Magic gives you an RGB gradient, which often comes out looking dull.

In the second screenshot, I'd recommend darkening the background more. If the foreground and background contain similar colors, the background should use darker tones to more distinctly separate it from the foreground. Otherwise, the player can get visually confused and mistake the BG for the FG or vise versa.

Something like this?
What do you think about this one? I want it to be a dark sky.
That lava palette seems fine. As for the dark sky, I'd rather darken everything at least a bit and eliminate pure white shades of mushroom monuments, bridges and BG hills to emphasize the darkness.
I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

Basically, I believe in peace and bashing two bricks together.

I was thinking of doing that for the BG, but wasn't sure. Thanks for the feedback Rainbow Man!
That lava palette is much better.

But, is this thread not getting a little out of hand now? It's turning more into a 'Work in Progress' thread than a 'Help' thread.

That's true. I'll continue posting there haha.
