12 Days Before Christmas

Standard

Yeah, I know it's not Christmas yet,and I also know that contest finished a long time ago, but I wanted to make a hack with some restrictions (if we can call them like that), with different environments. As the title says, this hack will have 12 levels with various themes. I'm going to edit this post to show the screenshots in a moment.
Here is the overworld (not finished, may change), although I'm having problems to make the events.
What do you think at the moment? Yeah, I've just started the project, but feedback helps a lot! Thanks for your time! I will show more progress later.
It doesn't look too bad so far the graphics are alright. Although I would remove or find a better place for the special world symbol in the map. It's just not visually appealing where its at now.

I would also add having a level called 'Green Grassland' on an overworld map that is white and frosty looking isn't exactly consistent but that's more a personal nitpick.

Thanks for the feedback Adamatrix!
As for the special world symbol, I will change it or remove it, don't know.
About the overworld, my idea was to put the levels in one only world, like in a different dimension. I don't know how to explain it, but you will understand what I mean if you play the hack Collection by Zmann. Maybe I could change the palette or the design a bit.
Or you can just edit the overworld map so it's green around the Green Grassland dot and the rest is snowy. You can do it using custom palettes

I will try that. Thanks Rainbow Man!
Realistically you probably don't even have to do it with custom palettes. You can just find a way to separate that land from the rest and recolor it green in the standard palette editor.

That's how I did this:

Unless of course green isn't an option in the drop down menu for the Star World submap. In which case, you WOULD have to use custom palettes hehe #smw{^_^;}

The level in the screenshot is okay, however it's not recommended to put grassland levels in a snowy area.
Yeah, I'm figuring out how to change the color because I have chosen special world. It hasn't been a good choice. Maybe I could change it for another overworld.
I'm back! I started the hack again and discovered new things you can do in LM. I've been experimenting a bit, and this one would be the third level.

What do you think?
Well, I've been working with palettes and here are the results:

As for the second screenshot, would this background fit for a night sky themed level?
Suggestions are welcomed!
Which song would you recommend me for the night sky level? Suggestions are welcomed!
CANCELLED. I didn't know how to continue, so sorry for the inconvenience. Will start another hack in the future.
I'm back at this project! This time it is very different from last time. I will show you progress later.
Here is the overworld, nothing special, but this hack will be centered around levels. I don't know how to disappear the paths and make them appear after beating the level.

First Level: Carol's Grassland: Just a small tribute or copy, however you want to call it, of some parts of Brutal Mario, not a blatant edit of course, pictures will explain that (Veteran players should know that haha)

Remember the music used in that hack? Well, veteran players (and new ones) will get a nice surprise.

Second Level: Underground River: The typical cave with water. It is supposed to be based on a subterranean river.

Well, that's all for now! I hope I don't get frustated again. Feedback is welcomed!
Can't tell much about gameplay of course based on the few screenshots but the graphics and palettes are super nice!

Not sure why Charlie's face is bubbling in the last picture.

Thanks! I have been testing the levels and they seem to work and have no glitches. I don't know if I need beta testers if they can see something I have missed.
Really depends on how many levels you have. If you have less than 5 levels I don't know if releasing a beta would be warranted yet.

If your hack's length is reasonable (let's say, no less than 8-10 exits), it's heavily adviced to give away a beta for testing in case you aren't sure if you didn't miss any error. If your hack is short, it's pretty easy to check for the errors.

We will see during the progress haha

I think the colors of this sublevel are too bright. Maybe is the lack of a black outline, I don't know, but I you could try to darken them a little bit to see if they look better.

At first glance that Diggin' Chuck seems out of bounds. Also, be sure that section does not suffer from slowdown when playing it, because those rocks sure pile up quickly.

The level design seems good, but I would need more screenshots (or videos) to judge.
I like how it's going, hope you do more stuff.

Is there a reason why turn blocks exist here?

The original also was very bright but that game is lot different than this one of course.
