Staff Applications Return Again

Link Thread Closed
Long time, no see guys. I hope you're ready for another round of staff applications!

This time around we're looking to hire for the following sections:
- Graphics
- Music
- ASM (tool knowledge preferred)
- Yoshi's Island (handles all sections)

We're also looking to hire for two more specific PR positions:
- An Event Organizer to help arrange site collabs and contests, and prepare base patches. (ASM knowledge required)
- One or more Youtube people to upload videos featuring hacks and resources to the SMWCentral Youtube channel.

Keep in mind that being staff means having to put in some hard work; there are no free rides. You must be mature and dedicated, you must have good communication & judgement skills, and you must be able to work well in a team.

Application Information

In your application, please specify what position you are applying for at the top, and then talk about your history on the site and your relation to the position you're applying for. Explain why you feel qualified for the position, and how experienced you are with the position you're applying for. Important information to include is your age, what languages you speak, how active you are on SMW Central, and how much time you would have to attend to your duties. Failure to address these points will result in your application not being considered. We encourage you to elaborate on your skills!

PM all applications to me, Noivern. After the deadline, all applications will be shared with the staff, who will reach their decisions. You have one week to apply.

Application Deadline:

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here.
I was asked what was expected of a music mod, so I'll be posting it for anyone interested.

Basically, what I'm looking for is:

- Someone who, obviously, has experience with AddmusicK and MML, who can pick up on errors/wasted space within a port

- Someone who has some basic music knowledge, enough to pick up on mistakes in the arrangement of a port/shoddy mixing

- Someone with a good ear for quality, what's good and bad, and will work with the other music mods effectively

- Someone who can write good removal logs that can articulate all of these factors whenever applicable (when i say good, i just mean coherent and constructive)

If you fit some or all of these criteria or think you'd be a good fit, then throw in an application or don't im not your mom
Since it was brought up for music moderators, I might as well state what I'd look for in an ASM or tool moderator. This opinion does not necessarily reflect the views of the whole team or of both managers.

The ASM sections are currently busy because of the GIEPY standardization and the patch remoderation. It's also no secret that we're currently working on overworld sprites and have other future projects. As such, potential candidates must keep in mind that their job would imply not only moderating sections but actively participating in the team's discussions. In some cases, you may need to stop to examine a situation from multiple sides and decide how a non-programmer would look at a problem - this is not only true for formulating a response to a project but also when determining the usefulness and usability of a waiting resource. I should finally add that moderation is not objective and you need a certain degree of autonomy, i.e. you shouldn't rely solely on others' opinion if you're not sure whether to approve or reject something.

Having the ability to moderate tools alongside ASM is a big bonus for any candidate. The section is rarely busy but should be carefully moderated by someone who can reliably check that a tool is safe and functional.

We are not specifically looking for top-notch professionals. If you know your way around an ASM programmer's tools of the trade and can think of possible edge cases when testing something, it never hurts to apply. After all, learning while doing your job is definitely possible and effective. Even if your application does not get approved, it doesn't mean we won't keep you in mind if we need a moderator in the future.
For SMW Graphics moderation, I'm looking for someone:

1) who understands what makes good pixel art and paletting, especially within SNES and SMW Hacking limitations, and is able to pinpoint general and specific flaws and mistakes, as well suggestions for improvement;

2) who knows their way around the technicalities involved in custom graphics and paletting for SMW Hacking (Lunar Magic dialogs, Map16, palmask, etc.);

3) who can write constructive, informative and educational removal logs;

4) who is willing to dedicate some time for, albeit not gargantuan, a serious and not so exciting task;

5) who is mature, understands voluntary teamwork, and knows when matters should be brought to discussion with the rest of the staff team first.
