Large innacuracies in a port, acceptable?

So I was working on another port since I liked doing my previous one, but as I'm working on it, I realize that my midi is very innacurate. Instrumentation feels different, a few parts have plainly completely different notes, and a whole section of the song is gone. Is it still acceptable if it still ends up sounding ok to someone unfamiliar with the original?
Generally, you want ports to be as close to the original song as possible. If there are too many inaccuracies and sounds too different, it can either be rejected, or, you can redo it as an arrangement of the song instead, assuming it still sounds good. If you like what you've made, I suggest making it into a full-on arrangement.
Your port doesn't necessarily need to sound 100% true to the original when going for accuracy. Just as long as the SPC doesn't sound totally off, or if the instrument choice isn't too questionable, then you'll be fine.

Since it seems like you're using a MIDI for a base, here's some advice:
• If the MIDI you're using has some parts that sound very dissonant or off, it's probably not a good idea to use that MIDI as the base of your port.
• If there's additional parts in the MIDI that don't seem to ring true to the original, try scrapping them.
• Instruments do not have an effect on the sequence of notes. So if the MIDI has strange instrument choices that don't seem to match the original, you should be able to fix this easily by simply finding a much better sample, and applying it to your SPC.

As long as it sounds subjectively good then it can be so inaccurate it doesn't resemble the original thing (at this point it shouldn't be a "port.")

Quality is what determines whether a song gets accepted and that includes sequence data. I believe 2016 I submitted a port and an original song, both got rightfully rejected (I never updated them anyway lol.) We're talking about ports so we'll go with the former.
Can't remember the insert size but it worked with #optimized.

1. One of the instruments were not tuned properly (I tuned differently back then, they were less accurate)

2. It had leftover instrument changes which were unnecessary because I removed multisampling. This resulted in an instrument being duplicated twice so it costed a number of extra bytes.

3. Similar to the above. I included the extra omitted sample BRR's so the downloaded file/.rar takes up more space.

4. No loop optimizations.

5. Apparently the ADSR on one of the instruments (Celesta?) could be better. They recommended shortening the attack.

If the tuning was fixed it wouldn't be noticeable to the user, however ALL THE OTHER issues inflated the Insert Size and ARAM usage. Thus, moral of the story, put effort into a quality product. If you're giving them a 5lb steak then cook it right. If you at least put the effort then you'll be rewarded in some way.
It doesn't sound bad at all, but basically everything save for the main melody is redone, in part or in full.

My question is kinda useless now, though... I'm porting Legendary Illusion ~ Infinite Being, and I kinda just realized that my midi is an official remix from the ZUN himself... so it's technically just as legit as the one in Mystic Square.

I'm still trying to borrow from the original version though, since some parts are simpler and the midi has way too many tracks playing at once. #wario{...}

So yeah, sorry for asking a dumb question, I was just unsure if it was even worth it to keep working on the port. I'm not exactly satisfied with how it sounds so far, and I can see the struggles ahead to try and fit all these instruments onto 8 channels, so I didn't want to do all that and still risk rejection because it's basically nothing like the original.

Thanks for your replies regardless, I'll probably try to tackle this one again if I get better. I should be focusing on other things for my hack anyway. #lm{l1}
