Super Wakana Land

Standard

Here you can discuss about the hack and ask questions about anything: what song I used in a level, which is the asm of a gimmick, how to get past a puzzle, and so on. You could even request me to submit some song/asm/etc I exclusively did for SWL, I'll may consider it for next C3.
Feel free to ask anything, I'll be answering every once in a while.

Super Wakana Land 2.1 download - walktrough (none yet)
The way the hack is supposed to be.

Super Wakana Land 2.1.2 "PURE VERSION" download - walktrough (none yet)
The hack without the NSFW bits. This version is perfect suitable for Youtube and Twich let's plays, without violating the NSFW rule.

Super Wakana Land 1.0 download - walktrough by Lordkronos100
The way the hack was supposed to be before the removal. There's some extra content here, which got cut from the 2.1 version.
This is also NSFW obviously.

If you enjoyed the hack a lot, perhaps you want to consider nominating it for featuring in case you didn't know it was a thing.

Said this, feel free to post anything you want about this!
So if I already played the original 1.0 release, should I bother playing the 2.0 release?

great hack! what's the name of the song used in "sudden darkness"?
What music plays in the "Empty Caves" level, the cave level in the sub map you start the game in?

I think I found a bug. I'm playing the game on my SNES Classic. I was playing the "Up on the Clouds" level or something like that name. It's the first level after the first castle. It's in the sub map you start the game in. I was in the section of the level after that pipe at the beginning blocked by the blocks where you need the P Switch to get past. There is a section where there are 2 Volcano Lotus plants on purple brambles or spikes. I was trying to kill the Volcano Lotus plants with my fireballs, and I touched the purple brambles or spikes. I think I died, but when I touched them, the screen went black for a split second, and the SNES Classic brought a message that said, "C7: An error has occurred." I pressed A, and I was booted back to the SNES Classic menu. Fortunately, I didn't lose any progress in the game. I have no idea what happened, and it may just be a one time thing. Do you think you can do some investigating?

You can see the changelog in the readme of the version accepted in the section. Many things were changed, probably the most relevant one is the new button mapping (which is what the community complained about the most), as well as toning down the huge difficulty spikes. I sadly also had to cut off some of the content, which exploded along the way.
Again, if you're curious, refer to the readme. Listing the changes here would be redundant. #tb{:j}

Pardon my ignorance, but SNES Classic would fall under "playing the hack on real hardware" yes? If so, I believe I pointed out everywhere that the hack fails on real hardware, due to unknown reasons (someone addressed some issues with SPC deadlocking). Sadly, I don't think I can do much right now, and after the nightmares with freespace, I don't think I want to touch this hack anymore.
After some complaints I heard about people disliking the "lewd" part of the hack, either because it was unnecessary and felt out of palace, or because this wouldn't make you able to stream it via Twitch and similars (due to no-no @nsfw content), I decided to make a separate build of my hack, where all the suggestive content has been nuked.

I present you...

Super Wakana Land "Pure" Version

As you can see from the screens, if you played the version shared on the site, anything addressed to tits, lewd pics and sexy hidden bonuses has been completely removed from the hack.
Before you go ahead, know that this hasn't been fully tested. I could've forgot something, or a crash may have popped out suddently. If you experience these issues, report immediately!
Once a few of you go trough it, and see nothing wrong with it, let me know.
SWL Safe Ver.

Alright so, I only found 3 strange things

-The quicksand in the "Hot hot desert" dont't have priority
-In "Ancient Building" the "Thwomp Boss" gets stucked in the ceiling
-The path of the cave can be seen in the Main OW

and that's all so far
Here's another little thing, The "Bounce blocks" doesnt actually bounce, they transform the Munchers into MP
Finally a version of this master which I can play without problems! Thanks. #w{=)}
oh god, pretty good hack, I will play it (I'm also curious about the NSFW lol)
You should upload your remix of Dr. Cossack's Castle 1. I also loved your remix of Arabic Coffee. That was a huge inspiration for me to try doing something like that. Your remix of Remilia's theme was alright (wish it was on the B minor rather than C#, but that's more of my personal preference).

But what song played in World 1-1?

I'll consider it, maybe next C3.

Posting to also mention that I made a new version of the "Pure" version of the hack (2.1.2). I simply got rid of the note blocks in the first level of the "hidden world", since they exploded and, instead of bouncing you up, they triggered the silver P-Switch.
As for the ow issue I have no idea. I'll just assume it's the rom being broken too much inside.
The other two issues are in the version in the section too, so they've been ignored.
What music plays in the level part of Unusual Meeting? (NOT the cut scene part.)

Also, is The Final Showdown a hard level? I beat the other levels with a skull in their names fairly easily, but that message at the beginning of The Final Showdown makes me lose motivation and makes me just want to quit playing, never to touch the game again.

I'm currently playing the pure version. I'm glad that there's a version I can feel more comfortable not only playing but streaming. A couple comments:
I think the song in "Silly Bridge" is a bit too loud.
The sprite-swapped muncher enemies in "Nom Nom Madness" should be made invincible, and solid if possible. Normal munchers aren't traditionally killable and neither should these.
I don't know if there's a limitation preventing it, but I think that there should always be a checkpoint and life refill before every boss encounter. Some bosses are a bit wonky, to say the least, and having to replay some lengthy chunks of level just to get another shot at the fight I started at low HP is a bit annoying. This is compounded by the removal of the healing skill, which at the very least served as a band-aid for this kind of situation (easy healing before the fight) and was also quite risky to use during a fight (which is where you'd probably need it most). I just use savestates before each encounter, which is something I'm not ashamed to do but is still something I'd rather not do.
I'm liking the level design changes. I can naturally play through a bit more smoothly thanks to experience, but some of these alterations help a bit. Of course, the best change was removing the strange puzzle section at the end of "Sleepy Ship".
I'm so glad the the slide has been remapped. No more wasted MP! MP feels a bit less valuable to hang onto now that the healing's gone, though.

I think it's a testament to the hack's quality that I'm enjoying it as much as I am on a repeat playthrough. I still love the visuals, I still adore the music choices, and I still greatly enjoy the varied level design.
Most of my complaints are mostly just nitpicking at this point. If you don't feel up to addressing them, that's fine—with how hellish your work process seems to have been with this hack I don't think it's fair of me to demand anything out of you.
Also what song played in the Final Showdown and Dark Mario Bros Cutscene?

Not too much, maybe only a tiny bit frustrating. Imo the hardcore levels are harder.

Thanks, but I should've been more specific. I meant when Dark Mario Bros makes his appearance to scare Wakana (his theme kinda).

I'm new here, but I thought I should say this, especially given what all happened later on in development.

I love this hack!

Seriously, amazing work!

Honestly, when someone showed it off in a Discord server I'm on, I was hooked by the M-rated stuffs and sexiness of the heroine. Then the awesomeness of the game itself kept my interest to the end. Even though I'm shit at Mario, I fully intend to 100% both "main" builds. Man this game is a pervy secret-hunter's dream <3...

I just thought you might appreciate that.

By the way, what are the songs that play in Adventure Start and DIE HERE!? Or did you do the distortion of the latter in another way? Cause I've now got them stuck in my head and I want to know what the original is.

(Also, it's too bad what happened with the latter level, cause I'm a sucker for stupid creepypasta stuff like that, but I get why you needed to remove it)

EDIT: Oh wait, you already answered that, didn't you? Sorry; I think I was confused by the previous person using a different name. That being said, I'm still curious what you did to distort it there. Also, I thought of another question. Namely, what's the music for the MEGABOOBS boss?

Also, who's the sexy giantess succubus in the ??? "sexy world entrance" area?

Finally, what's the music for Hot Hot Desert? I'm wondering cause I love those sorts of Egyptian-style stuffs <3.

Uhh, you mean the same song which also happens in the first part of the intro level, right?
If so, it's "Tomorrow Will Be Special, Yesterday Was Not" from Touhou 10.5. The port was made by me, and not meant to share for public use.

It's a very basic edit of the music: all you do is to lower all octaves of the song by 1, and cut its tempo by half. You can do this with any song.

Quote

Final Fantasy Legend - Furious Battle. The song is ported by me, and not meant for public use.
The whole stage also is kind of my own version of "megadmin" of SMWCP in case none figured about it, lol. Both use the same song, and both are boss-only levels.

She's Koakuma from Touhou 6. The source of the pic can be found here. Might as well mention that I follow the artist's Twitter, since I adore his style.

Ah, alright, that makes sense. I'll admit, I don't know all that much about this sort of thing. So the stuff I ask might be basic, and I apologize if that's annoying.

Also, should've known that was Koakuma. Man, I need to brush up on my Touhou lore #smrpg{:3}.

Anyway, thanks for answering my questions! And yeah, I thought you might appreciate me saying the game's awesome #tb{;)}!
