Thanks! I'm familiar with the fact that only the junior year PSAT is the one that counts, but my school made it a requirement for sophomores to take the test. This is actually a pretty good idea since it gives younger students a taste of the actual SAT and better preparation for the Scholarship.

@RPG Hacker: When I was 13/14, after reading some internet articles, I found out that tuition in Germany is little to none, and I was thus fascinated by the idea of studying in Germany. However, my parents probably wouldn't want me to be that far away from them, and I don't think I'd feel very comfortable being in a foreign country by myself anyway, especially at such a young age (I would still love to travel more when I'm older, but not in only 2 years from now). One thing I really don't understand is how tuition in the US is so expensive. I guarantee you that minimal tuition would encourage a lot more people to go to college (either right after high school or at a later time).

In here, there are public colleges which are funded by the government where you don't have to pay any tuition, but you do have to pay the fee to participate in the entrance exam. If you do well in the test, then you get admitted. I managed to pass in one of them, so now I'm studying in college, only half a year after high school. And if everything goes according to plan, I'll finish it by 2021!

There's also the ENEM, a general exam which can either serve for entering federal colleges or private ones at 50% or 100% scholarship (again, depending on how well you do). And lastly, there are student loans, which the government also provides for some reason.

That is the most surprising thing I've ever heard! People in your country are lucky!

About student loans, yeah, they're going to want to provide those. You got those who will actually take them, use them, and pay them back. Still, I would rather make the money myself to participate in college or just not go at all rather than dig myself an early grave with a loan I possibly couldn't pay back.

Wait, is this not how things are out there too?
(I guess as a Brazilian I will naturally never think my country has it better than other places sometimes)
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
Americans have to pay all their own tuition unless they get a full scholarship or something else. People I know have tens of thousands of dollars of student loan debt. As I type this, there's literally 1.5 TRILLION DOLLARS of student loan debt held by people in this country and that number goes up by about $4000 every single second.

The US Debt Clock is scary.
I sometimes almost feel like I'm doing wrong by not having to pay for college at all, but we pay more than enough taxes to fund education and such.
And thinking about it, charging money to all students is if anything a pretty good way to make a lot of people in your country be in debt. Such an ideal scenery where everyone who joins college graduates and gets a well-paying job...
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
Unfortunately it's not working out like that very well. These days you just aren't guaranteed to find a job after graduation. My brother got his degree in Homeland Security, a degree that should have plenty of value in the Washington DC-Metro area where we live but hasn't been able to find anything. He's thinking of going back to school for a Master's degree just to become more marketable. Similar situations happened with some other friends of mine. One friend graduated with a degree in Biotechnology and she spent over a year trying to find work in her field. Another friend graduated with a Physics degree and couldn't find any laboratory work for two years, eventually giving up on a physics-related job and taking on a job in the programming sector. A third friend graduated with a Masters in Computer Science and spent over a year looking for work. With a Masters! A full year!

College is not what it used to be. With all the costs of tuition going up constantly, we have to weigh whether or not it's actually worth plunging ourselves into decades of student debt for a job that may not even exist when we get out. It sucks. You want the real measure of how bad things are in terms of the average person having money? Look at this from the Debt Clock site:

Since 2000, the median income for a person in the US has only gone up $600. Yet median housing prices have doubled from ~$166,000 to ~$328,000. And yet all these sites blame millennial for killing the housing market by not wanting to buy houses. We don't have the money to buy houses because no one is paying us livable wages. Things look even worse when you realize that the average income hasn't risen with inflation since the 1970s. People today are making less money than their parents did, and are being blamed for not being good enough to make money like that.

I'd gladly pay more taxes to pay less for tuition. Or a number of other things. Fund the public sector.
Education in the US is really messed up in more than just one way. Over here, it took me just three years to pay back all of my student loans - and I already went to what Germans woulder consider a "very expensive private institution". I'd say that having high tuition hinders society more than it benefits it. It really just prevents people from becoming professionals, additionally to widening the gap in society since only the wealthier people can really afford college without problems. With that, education becomes a matter of money rather than a matter of willingness and diligence. That just doesn't make any sense. As someone looking for professionals, you'd really want to have the people who are the most willing to invest into their work, not those people who got there because they somehow had the money to afford it.

Stefán Karl Stefánsson, or as we all know him, Robbie Rotten, has passed away yesterday due to bile duct cancer. Just wanted to inform anyone who hasn't heard the news yet, since I haven't seen any posts about it.

Always number one.
It's really a shame that Stefán died 43 years old. He'll always be number one, though.

And I'll never forget about that meme he's known for. I speculate it'll gain some more popularity than recently. Or maybe even more than after Stefán had gotten pancreatic cancer...
I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

Basically, I believe in peace and bashing two bricks together.

I didn't expect this to happen at all. I watched LazyTown a lot when I was a kid and always enjoyed seeing him in it. Rest in peace, Robbie Rotten. You will always be number one.

I mean, it was already to be expected since he was fighting his damn hardest against cancer, however, I am quite surprised at how he managed to fight it for so long; still tho, it was inevitable anyway

Rest in peace Stefan; you were a great man, and you, along with the Lazy Town crew, helped create a lot of great childhoods; it's sad that your not here with us anymore, but still, I hope you have a great time in Heaven! #smw{:TUP:}

also unrelated, but I do kinda wonder why do most people still hate SiivaGunner when they were the ones which made Lazy Town explode in popularity like they did with the WANO meme; yes, I know that Lazy Town already had memes before this, but it wasn't nearly as popular before Siiva made it popular, and well, we all saw what great stuff the meme did for Stefan, so I just don't see why all the pointless hating on the channel honestly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Man, many known people are passing away this year. It's sad. Recently, the Japanese voice actor Unsho Ishizuka (who voiced Prof. Oak, Mr. Satan, Zabuza, Heihachi Mishima and many others) passed away due to esophagus cancer, at the age of 67.

May Stéfan and Unsho rest in peace. #ab{;_;}

Rest in peace, he seemed like such a good person :/

I think the dislike/indifference ("hate" is strong) is more on the culture than on the thing itself. From a distance, the average SiIvaGunner fan looks like someone unfunny, which is to say, overly obsessed with things most people don't enjoy that much or find that funny.

Essentially that, yeah. I understand enjoying something a whole lot, but obsession in and of itself has always been something that slightly annoys me, especially when it's something like Silvagunner. That is—constant references, needless lore, etc. To each their own, though.
Yeah, I can see why y'all would think that since the community is mostly very immature, but honestly there's quite a few people in the community which are actually pretty cool, and I do think it would be worth it to at least know the community better (the SiivaGunner Discord would be a very great option IMO)

also, the ripping team are definitely one of the coolest people you'll meet there, and I honestly wished I had nearly as much talent as them; I actually talk with a few of them personally too, either on Discord DMs or on Discord servers I'm in that has them, so the community isn't all bad, it just takes a while to get used to it lmao

I personally love SiIvaGunner. I just legitimately enjoy a majority of the rips. It's just a nice surprise to listen to some song to then be pleased with some reference you weren't expecting at all, or generally just to get a really could and funny remix of something. My playlist by now is man hundred entries long (probably approaching the thousands even, I would assume), and it's comprised only of songs that I actually consider nice to listen to. Sure, they also upload stuff that is just memes or that might be funny, but doesn't sound very nice. I find this stuff to be in the minority, though.

I think I'd enjoy it a lot more if they were upfront about the songs being mashups, and not pretending to be a real VGM channel.

Though I guess then they wouldn't appeal as much to the meme people. #tb{''}
